Sabah chief minister: State doubling down on clean energy to lift economy, boost national supply
He said the state government had already launched the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (Sabah Energy Ramp 2040) to chart and outline key priorities for the state's energy sector.
'With this in place, Sabah should be able to fully develop its green energy sector with the potential to provide up to 75 per cent of the nation's green energy supply,' he said at the Sabah Renewable Energy Conference 2025: Corridor to Transform Vision to Reality (Sarec 2025) here today.
His speech text was read by Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Sabah is endowed with an abundance of renewable energy (RE) sources that could contribute to the state and nation's transformation into a high-value-added economy, he said.
He said the energy sector has been a critical engine of growth for Sabah's economy over the decades, and he aspires to see its energy sector lift the people's quality of life.
He said the state government has been encouraging the development of clean energy and will continue to develop the necessary infrastructure related to the energy sector.
'We have been steadfast in our pursuit of taking control and managing the state's energy resources to empower Sabah to develop and continuously grow the energy sector more effectively and efficiently,' he said.
On another matter, the chief minister reiterated that the state government had identified a new economic sector involving the sustainable exploration of Sabah's incredible marine and coastal resources.
Hajiji commended Qhazanah Sabah Bhd and the Malaysian Rating Corporation Bhd for bringing Sarec 2025 to fruition.

BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 ( Bernama) — Malaysia views ASEAN as a region with vast untapped potential -- poised to become a dynamic engine of growth and resilience amid global uncertainties, according to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). MITI Deputy Secretary General (Trade) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa said ASEAN is more than just a large market, it is a reservoir of innovation, creativity and energy with a population nearing 700 million, almost one third of whom are youth. 'Our demographic dividend, coupled with a rapidly growing consumer class, rising connectivity and accelerating digital adoption, gives ASEAN a unique advantage. 'If nurtured in accordance with the principles of sustainability and inclusivity, these strengths will not only fortify our region's growth but also position ASEAN to play a defining role in shaping the future of the global economy,' she said in her speech at the welcome dinner for the Senior Economic Officials' Meeting (SEOM) 3/56 and Related Meetings today. Under the ASEAN chairmanship, Mastura said Malaysia is working to deepen regional integration, strengthen supply chain resilience, foster sustainable and responsible investment and advance digital innovation. 'More importantly, we are committed to creating opportunities for businesses of all sizes, especially micro, small and medium enterprises to participate meaningfully in ASEAN's growth story,' she added. In a separate statement, MITI said key discussions at SEOM 3/56 focused on Malaysia's Priority Economic Deliverables under its 2025 ASEAN chairmanship; updates on the 2025 Annual Priorities under the AEM/SEOM purview; implementation of ASEAN agreements; advancement of the Digital Economy Framework Agreemen; and ASEAN's sustainability agenda, including carbon neutrality, circular economy, and the ASEAN Power Grid. July 2025 supplementary electoral roll open for public review
PUTRAJAYA: The Supplementary Electoral Roll for July 2025 has been officially gazetted and is now available for public scrutiny. Election Commission secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus confirmed the 30-day review period will extend until September 18. This electoral roll contains 42,464 citizens who turned 18 between July 1 and 31, 2025. These individuals were automatically registered as new voters under the automatic voter registration system. Additionally, the roll includes 15,109 voters who changed their constituencies. Another 1,523 voters altered their status or category during this period. Khairul Shahril urged all eligible citizens to verify their registration details. 'The EC calls on citizens aged 18 and above from July 1 to 31, 2025, and any registered voter who has applied for a change of constituency or voter status or category to check their names in DPT BLN7/2025,' he stated.
