Hajj: Najm ensures safety of pilgrims on the road
Najm's operational plan for Hajj reinforces national efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims. The plan facilitates the smooth and secure performance of rituals, safeguarding pilgrims from the moment of their arrival at the Kingdom's border crossings until their safe return home. Najm has prepared a field fleet of approximately 120 vehicles, including 54 motorcycles, and a dedicated field team of more than 150 qualified specialists.
The operational plan incorporates a robust, integrated technical infrastructure designed to proactively manage the expected rise in pilgrim numbers and bolster traffic safety in the holy sites. A central operations room, outfitted with the latest smart systems and diverse digital communication channels, serves as the command hub. This network leverages tools such as the Najm application, IVR system, and the direction and control system. Complementing these are a full-service call center and WhatsApp service, all integrated to expedite response times and optimize the handling of any traffic incidents.
Abdullah Al-Khalaf, acting CEO at Najm, said: 'We at Najm are proud to be part of the integrated national system concerned with serving pilgrims, under the supervision of our leadership. We have worked to improve our operational readiness this year in a qualitative manner, harnessing all our human and technical capabilities to support the efforts made to enhance traffic safety during the Hajj season in cooperation with the General Traffic Department and all concerned parties.'
He added: 'Najm's operational plan for this year's Hajj season reinforces the Kingdom's commitment to caring for pilgrims. It aligns with the 'Pilgrims' Experience Program' — a key initiative of Saudi Vision 2030 — to enhance the Hajj journey and enable pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind.'
In addition, within the framework of its social responsibility program 'Najm Al-Khair' and in continuation of the company's efforts in the Hajj mission, Najm is sponsoring the 'Aoun' initiative in cooperation with the National Center for Responsibility and Studies.
Aoun is a community initiative helping pilgrims through a team of volunteers providing professional services to pilgrims that enable them to perform their rituals with ease.
Moreover, Manafeth, Najm's subsidiary, is actively receiving pilgrims at the Kingdom's border crossings. Manafeth facilitates their entry by issuing mandatory third-party liability insurance for foreign vehicles. This service, accessible through its border offices, website, and the Manafeth application, ensures pilgrims receive necessary insurance protection, safeguarding their rights and covering their liabilities in the event of traffic incidents during their Hajj.

Riyadh university offers English courses
RIYADH: The English Language Institute at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh has opened registration for its preparatory English course, aimed at equipping female students with the necessary academic language skills to enroll in the university's graduate programs. The course is designed to enable students wishing to join graduate programs at the university to meet admission requirements through an intensive training program that focuses on developing academic English language skills within a learning environment supervised by specialized faculty members. Historic Jeddah's wooden doors exemplify traditional Hijazi architecture
RIYADH: Ancient wooden doors scattered across the alleys of Jeddah's historic Al-Balad neighborhood exemplify the traditional architecture of the Hijaz region. Their beauty has been preserved for centuries, and they have become symbolic of the architectural identity that led to the area joining the UNESCO World Heritage List. These doors are crafted from teak and walnut wood imported from India and East Africa, renowned for their durability and weatherproof quality. They are reinforced with large iron nails and adorned with arabesque, geometric, and botanical engravings, reflecting the creativity of local craftspeople in Jeddah who developed this craft generation after generation. The wooden doors serve multiple architectural functions, according to the Saudi Press Agency, most notably protecting homes from summer heat and providing ventilation through finely decorated openings, in addition to their aesthetic appeal. Some doors feature double layers: a large outer one for visitors and a smaller one allowing easy entry and exit without opening the main door. As part of Saudi Vision 2030 efforts to preserve historic Jeddah, dozens of wooden doors have undergone meticulous restoration by specialized artisans using the same original wood, with careful documentation of engravings and decorations to ensure their preservation. These are testimonies to the evolution of Hijazi society and its adaptation to the environment. They carry in their engravings stories of trade and seafaring, showing how architecture preserves the identity of a place and the spirit of its people. Al-Balad is believed to have been inhabited since the era before Islam, according to Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage sources. Some of the buildings that stand there today were built around 400 years ago. Old Jeddah includes a number of monuments and heritage buildings such as the Old Jeddah wall and its historical open squares such as Al-Mazloom, Al-Sham, Al-Yemen and Al-Bahr Haras. The Old Jeddah wall was built to fortify the city from attacks initiated by the Portuguese coming in from the Red Sea, but it was torn down in the 1940s due to urbanization.
