Lee Byung-hun to headline Korean dub cast for 'The King of Kings'

Record-breaking box office hit brings A-list voices to animated biblical epic Actor Lee Byung-hun will lend his voice to Charles Dickens in the Korean dubbing of "The King of Kings," joining a star-studded cast for the animated film that has become the highest-grossing Korean production in US box office history. Thursday's cast announcement by Mofac Studio revealed Jin Sun-kyu as Jesus, Lee Ha-nee as Catherine Dickens alongside Lee and Yang Dong-geun as Peter. Veteran actors Cha In-pyo (Pontius Pilate), Kwon Oh-joong (King Herod), and Jang Gwang (High Priest Caiaphas) round out the ensemble. The film follows Dickens and his son Walter exploring the life of Christ, based on the author's posthumously published work "The Life of Our Lord." Written and directed by Jang Seong-ho, the production had already turned heads with its A-list Hollywood voice cast featuring Pierce Brosnan, Oscar Isaac and Kenneth Branagh. The animated feature has emerged as an unexpected box office phenomenon since its April 11 release. It claimed second place in its opening week with $19.4 million, trailing only "A Minecraft Movie" while outpacing several major studio releases. By early June, "The King of Kings" had earned $60.2 million in the US and Canada, with worldwide gross reaching $67 million. It became the highest-grossing Korean film in North American box office history, surpassing "Parasite," which earned $53.8 million following its Oscar sweep in 2020.

Stray Kids' Felix stays with tour despite back pain

Felix of Stray Kids is receiving treatment for his back, but will continue to participate in the band's ongoing tour, JYP Entertainment said Sunday. Felix has been in recovery and undergoing treatments and rehabilitation exercises. Despite having no difficulties carrying on in his daily activities, however, he still feels pain under strain, added the company. The musician, after a long talk with his bandmates, will stay on the tour, but may need to limit his performances. The band of eight is in the middle of its 'Dominate' international tour, which began in August last year. The North American leg of the tour began Saturday in Seattle, to be followed by a show in San Francisco on Wednesday. The tour takes the boy band to 34 cities for 55 shows, and is expected to draw 2.2 million concertgoers in total, which would be the most in K-pop history.

GOT7's Mark to return as solo act

Mark of GOT7 is gearing up to make a comeback as a solo singer and will release a single in advance on May 30, agency Transparent Arts said Wednesday. The prerelease titled 'High As You' is an alternative pop tune that highlights his unique sense of melody as well as performance skills, added the management company which signed with him recently. Mark debuted in 2014 as a member of the seven-piece boy band and has been forging a solo career as well since 2021. He established indie label Dreamers N Achievers and joined the agency set up by Far East Movement, the first Asian American band to claim the top spot on Billboard chart. The news comes on the heels of GOT7's two-day show in Bangkok. The seven members went live at the national stadium earlier this month drawing about 85,000 in audience.
