As part of its ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and capacity building, Dreama – the Orphan Care Centre – has launched a unique summer initiative titled 'The Financial Monitor', in collaboration with the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority (QFCRA). Targeting Dreama's children aged 6 to 16, the two-week program provides a rich, interactive professional experience tailored to the participants' developmental and psychological needs.
The program aims to instil essential life skills and values by introducing children to workplace environments, enhancing communication skills, boosting self-confidence, and promoting discipline and responsibility. A key focus is raising financial and professional awareness in a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate learning setting.
This initiative stems from Dreama's dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals by offering immersive educational experiences that broaden their perspectives. The program emphasizes understanding work dynamics, building interpersonal communication, and fostering a sense of community participation and self-reliance.
Developed and supervised by the QFCRA's qualified professionals, the program includes hands-on workshops and interactive sessions designed to simplify complex financial and regulatory concepts for young minds. The curriculum was carefully designed to match the participants' ages and learning styles.
Training modules include Introduction to financial literacy: saving, spending, and personal budgeting; Visual storytelling: photography, content creation, and digital communication; Presentation and public speaking skills; Structuring a professional CV; Group activities and creative challenges outside the classroom; Financial terminology in Arabic and English to support bilingual financial awareness.
Executive Director of Dreama Sheikha Najla bint Ahmed Al-Thani stated: 'This collaboration between Dreama and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority stands as a model of effective institutional partnerships. The Financial Monitor summer program is a milestone in empowering our children, equipping them with essential skills for independence and self-confidence. It reflects our shared commitment to preparing a generation capable of contributing meaningfully to society. We extend our sincere appreciation to the joint team from both entities whose efforts made this program a success, in alignment with Dreama's vision for empowerment and opportunity.'
Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at QFCRA Fatima Abdulrahman Al Meer added: 'We are proud to be part of the 'Financial Monitor' program in partnership with Dreama. This initiative reflects our belief in the power of community partnerships and highlights our commitment to social responsibility. Our role at QFCRA goes beyond regulatory oversight—we aim to foster transparency and enhance financial literacy, which are essential pillars of sustainable economic and social development. Through this program, we not only aim to build financial knowledge, but also help prepare these young minds for confident integration into Qatar's job market. This aligns directly with Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its social and economic development goals. We firmly believe that investing in people is the most valuable investment. We thank Dreama for this valuable partnership and look forward to continued collaboration that supports our shared goals of building a resilient society and securing a brighter future for our youth.'

Web Summit panel maintains steady preparations for 2026

QNA Doha Government Communications Office (GCO) Director HE Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani chaired on Thursday the Web Summit Permanent Organising Committee regular meeting to discuss the global event's 2026 edition. The meeting brought together representatives from the relevant government entities and strategic partners to prepare for the event scheduled for from February 1 to 4 next year. Sheikh Jassim affirmed that the strategic partnership with the Web Summit is part of the country's efforts to diversify its economy, accelerate digital transformation, and strengthen its position as a leading destination for technology and innovation in the region. He noted that the summit contributes to advancing the technological landscape in the country, opening wider horizons for entrepreneurs and startups, and enhancing Qatar's status on the global stage. He added that the high level of interest in participating in the Web Summit Qatar and the notable attention it has received reflect the strong desire within countries in the region to host technology events of this caliber. Qatar's hosting of the summit underscores its world-class infrastructure, distinguished national talent, and extensive experience in organizing major international events—all of which contribute to enhancing its influential role in the global technology and innovation ecosystem, he added. On the agenda were key topics, primarily the preparations for the participation of Qatar's delegation in the Lisbon Web Summit 2025, scheduled for next November. The significance of this participation lies in its support for the country's technology sector and in showcasing Qatar's innovation-friendly environment on the international stage. The committee meeting also discussed the plan to increase the number of participants in the third edition of Web Summit Qatar to approximately 30,000 attendees, along with the new discussion tracks to be introduced. These include the New Media Summit, Sports Summit, and Health Summit. The meeting also covered the selection of key speakers and participating entities. The Web Summit Qatar 2025, held last February, attracted 25,747 participants, 1,520 startups, and 723 investors from 124 countries, in addition to recording 325,000 connection requests between participants through the summit's app. With expansion plans for next year's edition, the summit continues to cement its position as the largest tech event in the region, contributing to the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030 and enhancing Doha's role as a global platform for discussions on technology and startups.

Tourism sector contributes QR55 billion to Qatar's GDP in 2024: Qatar Tourism

Earlier this year, Qatar Tourism announced that the tourism sector as a whole contributed QR55 billion to the country's GDP in 2024, accounting for an estimated 8% of the total economy, a 14 percent increase compared to 2023. This demonstrates clear progress towards the Tourism Strategy 2030 target of raising the sector's contribution to 10-12 percent of GDP. Qatar's strong tourism performance is the result of a robust strategy led by Qatar Tourism and supported by its promotional arm, Visit Qatar. In the first half of the year, Visit Qatar launched several regional and global media campaigns to attract visitors from key target markets. This included the recent 'Moments Made for You' campaign, which highlights the range of experiences available during the summer season and invites visitors from GCC countries and beyond to discover Qatar. Visit Qatar also released a promotional film featuring English footballer David Beckham, showcasing the country's diverse tourism offerings, from heritage and culture to modern attractions and natural sites. Additionally, Visit Qatar expanded its stopover promotion campaigns, focusing on priority markets including the United Kingdom, United States of America, South Africa, China and Australia. These campaigns coincided with major events such as the Qatar Toy Festival, which recently completed its third edition, attracting over 130,000 visitors, a 12% increase from the previous year. Other notable events included the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition 2025, Ras Abrouq, Sealine Season, Shop Qatar, and Qatar International Food Festival, alongside key initiatives such as Scoop on the Sea and the ongoing whale shark tours. Engineer Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, Chief Executive Officer of Visit Qatar, said: 'Our success in the first half of 2025 demonstrates sustained momentum and growing confidence from regional and global markets in Qatar's tourism offerings. We have attracted more visitors through a distinctive combination of major events, international campaigns, and innovative tourism products that cater to a wide range of interests. We will continue to invest in these areas and introduce initiatives that strengthen Qatar's position as a global destination blending authenticity with modernity, providing residents and visitors with a world-class experience year-round.' Qatar Tourism and Visit Qatar are currently preparing to host major events and launch key initiatives in the second half of 2025. The 2025/2026 cruise season will launch in November 2025, building on the success of the previous season, which saw 87 cruise ships dock in Qatar, a 19% increase from the year before, and welcomed over 360,000 visitors, up 4% from the prior season. The second half of the year will also feature the inaugural T100 Triathlon World Championship finals in Doha, held in partnership with the Professional Triathletes Organisation. Other highlights include the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, the F1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2025, the third Qatar Tourism Awards, the unveiling of the Michelin Guide Doha 2026, along with several other events to be announced soon.
