Teen Sentenced To Six Years At Henry Gurney School Over Fatal Crash That Killed Five
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan imposed the order until the teen reaches the age of 21, and further fined him RM1,500 or two months imprisonment in default, for driving underage.
The sentence was handed down after the Magistrate's Court received a report from the Social Welfare Department and submissions from deputy public prosecutor Mohd Fillanny Siji.
The teenager, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty on May 14 to two charges under Sections 41(1) and 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, and for driving while under the age of 16.
Speaking to reporters, Mohd Fillanny said the prosecution had sought a custodial sentence in light of the loss of five lives, adding that such cases should serve as a deterrent amid the rising number of road accidents in Kuching.
On May 14, the teen's 35-year-old father also pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 33(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for permitting his son to drive without proper supervision.
He was fined RM15,000, in default 12 months imprisonment and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service within six months.
On Jan 14, the teenager lost control of the vehicle he was driving and crashed into two cars and two motorcycles along Jalan Stutong Baru.
Four victims died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.

Immigration busts forgery ring and illegal massage ops in KL
KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has cracked down on a document forgery syndicate and illegal massage operations in separate raids across the city. A total of 24 foreign nationals were arrested in the operations, which also uncovered cash and equipment linked to the illegal activities. In Taman Maluri, 19 men were detained for allegedly producing fake electronic Temporary Employment Visit Pass (e-PLKS) slips. The suspects included 16 Bangladeshis and three Myanmar nationals, all aged between 18 and 43. The syndicate reportedly operated under the guise of phone repair and convenience stores, charging RM100 per forged slip. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban stated the group had likely been active for around a year. Two of the arrested Bangladeshis were overstayers, while most detainees lacked valid travel documents. Authorities seized RM11,357 in cash, fake e-PLKS slips, passports, laptops, printers, and CCTV cameras during the raid. The suspects are being held at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation. In a separate operation in Sri Petaling, five foreigners were arrested for running illegal massage services. The group included one Thai national and four Myanmar men, all targeting male customers. RM3,101 in suspected earnings, promotional materials, and payment QR codes were confiscated. The Thai suspect held a Social Visit Pass, while the Myanmar nationals were undocumented. Zakaria revealed the illegal massage service had operated for four months in unlicensed spa centres. Two local men have been issued notices to assist with the ongoing investigations. - Bernama

PM Anwar calls for transparent probe into assault case involving Rafizi's son
KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the assault case involving the son of former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. Anwar said he had conveyed the matter to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. 'We have yet to recover from the scourge of bullying in schools, and now we are confronted with another deplorable act — a malicious and treacherous assault on the son of Rafizi Ramli,' he said in a Facebook post. He also prayed for the well-being of Rafizi and his family. Earlier, Rafizi said that at about 1.45 pm, as his son and wife were getting into their car to leave a shopping mall in Putrajaya, a man grabbed the boy and pricked him with a syringe. He claimed that the assault involved two men on a motorcycle, clad in black attire and helmets. Following the incident, his son was taken to a hospital for treatment. — BERNAMA
