New Steelers CB Jalen Ramsey takes subtle parting shot at Dolphins

USA Today23-07-2025
The Miami Dolphins' suddenly messy divorce with cornerback Jalen Ramsey was finalized at the end of June with a trade that sent the seven-time Pro Bowler to the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Wednesday, Ramsey spoke to Pittsburgh media for the first time and took a subtle shot at the Dolphins.
"I can't necessarily say that I've played for a storied franchise like this yet," Ramsey told reporters, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
While there's no arguing that the Steelers, a team with six Super Bowl titles and nearly a century of seasons, isn't a storied team, the Dolphins have made their mark on football history too. Miami's 55.3 win percentage is fifth all-time (five spots ahead of Pittsburgh's 53.8 percentage) and the Dolphins have two Super Bowl titles, including one that capped the NFL's one and only undefeated season.
Ramsey also had a more than three-year stint with the Los Angeles Rams, another team with a pair of Lombardi Trophies.
Perhaps Ramsey has a lofty bar for his definition of a "storied franchise"? But his high praise of the Steelers inherently comes off as a dig at his prior stops.

Steelers in contract drama with Cameron Heyward after T.J. Watt's record deal

The Steelers have some more demands to handle. After reaching a record-breaking agreement with T.J. Watt, Pittsburgh has another All-Pro defensive lineman to try and keep happy with Cameron Heyward seeking a restructured deal. In a defensive market that has skyrocketed, with Watt being a $123 million piece of that boom, Heyward is reportedly seeking a raise to fit the market reset, but he has not been fully participating in training camp while he negotiates, according to ESPN. The 36-year-old has two years left on his current deal, a three-year extension he signed just last September that will pay him $14.75 million this season and $14.5 million the next. 4 Cameron Heyward is seeking a pay raise. Getty Images Under his current contract, he enters the season as the 36th-highest-paid defensive lineman and the 18th-highest-paid defensive tackle. While he's nearing 40 years old, Heyward has still been one of the NFL's top interior defensive linemen, and he nabbed a First Team All-Pro selection this past season to show for it. 4 Heyward has been First-Team All-Pro four times across his career. AP Heyward racked up 71 total tackles and eight sacks in the 2024-25 season, and his All-Pro nod made him the first defensive lineman older than 35 to be voted for the honor since Bruce Smith in 1998. Entering his 15th season with Pittsburgh, Heyward and the team have reportedly discussed his wishes privately, but have not made any progress on a restructured deal as he continues to not be a full participant at camp. Pittsburgh has been a big spender this offseason, as Watt's three-year, $123 million contract has him as the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. 4 TJ Watt signed a record-breaking contract with the Steelers this offseason. AP The Steelers also gave newly acquired wide receiver DK Metcalf four years, $132 million. They will also pay newcomers Aaron Rodgers ($13 million), Jalen Ramsey ($26.6 million) and Jonnu Smith ($12 million). Heyward isn't the only All-Pro Steeler looking for a raise either, as kicker Chris Boswell has also been privately seeking a new contract. 4 Chris Boswell has been a steady kicker for the Steelers for 10 seasons. AP Boswell was First Team All-Pro last season but was the lowest-paid kicker in the AFC North.

We likely will not see many of the stars in action, as all of Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, and Ja'Marr Chase will almost certainly get the night off. However, there are still plenty of storylines to follow. For Cincinnati, first-round rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart could make his Bengals' debut. They desperately need some help on the defensive side of the ball, and Stewart could provide a boost to a unit that ranked near the bottom of the league last season. Philadelphia fans are still celebrating their Super Bowl title from last year, and this is the first time they can see some of the players in action since the Eagles raised the Lombardi Trophy last February. This is a great NFL matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action. This is not a nationally broadcast game, but it can still be live-streamed locally on WXIX FOX19 (Cincinnati), NBC10 (Philadelphia), and MyNetworkTV (KHII – Honolulu, HI). It will be aired via tape delay later on NFL Network. Live stream Bengals vs Eagles for free with Fubo: Start your subscription now! Regional restrictions may apply. Steelers waive 2, making room for new signings

The Steelers added veteran quarterback Logan Woodside and former first-round offensive lineman Andrus Peat on Thursday to a full offseason roster. As a result, when Pittsburgh announced the signings, two corresponding cuts had to follow. Per a team announcement, the Steelers have waived long snapper Tucker Addington and offensive guard Nick Broeker ahead of the team's preseason Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Broeker signed with the Steelers in May, while Addington signed with the team in late June. Following the cuts, Christian Kuntz is the one remaining long snapper on the Steelers. But the offseason roster should remain fluid through the rest of the preseason.
