Accrington's forwards take their chance to delight John Doolan
Reagan Ogle's deflected 62nd-minute effort got one back for Oldham but it is Stanley who will face Peterborough in the first round.
Doolan said: 'I am very pleased. We made a lot of changes from Saturday but they know how to play, the structure, and to come in it and execute it, I am really proud.
'They got their opportunity and have shown what they can do.
'The first goal was massive and it was satisfying for all three forwards to get on the scoresheet, it's great for them all.'
Latics manager Micky Mellon was frustrated with his side's first-half display.
He said: 'I am really disappointed. I just never saw that coming.
'We did not compete, we did not win enough of the League Two necessary stuff. You need to win the aerial battles and the knock downs and we need to do better on the goals. They were shocking.
'We did more in the second half, we looked livelier, but it was too late.
'We did leave out characters that drive our performance but want players to come in and show they want to fight, scrap and play in a successful Oldham team.'

Stirling Albion left "frustrated" in home opener bore draw as Annan claim point
The Binos had the better of the chances but were unable to break down the visitors' defence. It was a damp squib for Stirling Albion's home league opener at a stormy Forthbank — but boss Alan Maybury insists Annan's approach highlights his side's progress. The Binos shared a goalless draw with their visitors from Dumfries and Galloway in a game with few real chances, with those clear openings of goal that did occur falling almost exclusively for the home side. A pair of saves from visiting keeper Zach Balfour from Aidan Cannon in the first half and from a close range shot by Robbie McNab in the second was the closest either time got to getting either set of supporters off their feet. In the end, it leaves both sides as among the early leaders in League Two with a win and Saturday's draw leaving them locked on four points. Maybury believes his side didn't hit their heights of performance — especially in a sticky first 45 — but said his side were the only one likely to get the three points. The Binos manager said: 'We're a little frustrated with things, especially in the first half where I don't think we got to the levels we want. 'They spoiled things a little and we didn't do the things we needed to but that was better in the second half, we switched play more and got in behind them and on another day, we could've won the game. 'Our keeper has had very little to do and we've had good chances ourselves, so I thought if there was any team trying to win it then that was us. 'There was some frustration from me that they're clearly trying to kill the game there at the end and the officials don't really deal with it, but we probably didn't do enough overall to get the result. 'Every goal kick, every throw-in or boot off the park was working towards getting that point today and that's their prerogative. 'If we go back 12 months — and there's not many of us left from then — we probably lose a game like that so it's pleasing to get a clean sheet and be in control of things to get our point.' Stirling were back in action last evening for their opening match in the new 'league phase' of the KDM Evolution Trophy — well known as the Challenge Cup. They hosted Dundee United B at Forthbank in the first of six games set to take place in the revamped competition, with Albion just needing to finish in the top 22 to secure a place to the next round. After the clash with the young Terrors, League Two business continues apace with a match against another side who have made a strong start as the Binos make the trip north to Station Park for an away clash with Forfar.

Paterson aims to 'change culture' of Notts County
Notts County head coach Martin Paterson has said he needs to "change the culture" of the club following their disappointing start to the League Two Magpies lost 2-1 at home to Salford City on Saturday, meaning they have picked up just one point from their opening two 38-year-old took charge of the club in June, replacing Stuart Maynard who was sacked following the play-off semi-final defeat by AFC Wimbledon."I think I have to be very careful with my words - the first half was so far away from our identity, it was untrue," Paterson told BBC Radio Nottingham after the defeat."I have to change the culture and the mentality and how we take them on." Despite having 58 per cent of possession against Salford, County had fewer shots on target and shots in total than their an aim to turnaround the slow start, Paterson suggested he will be naming a full-strength side for County's League Cup first-round tie at Wigan Athletic on Tuesday."I always think, if I'm a supporter, how I'm feeling after the game. If I'm being honest, I would be really, really frustrated," he said."I have to be accountable for that, I'm head coach, it's on me. When you dip from your levels of play, [as a] minimum at League Two you have to stay inside games."We concede two goals, that were probably the worst two goals that I have conceded [as a manager]."We will be there to compete to win. I think we need to shake this idea that we are able to just mix the team up a little bit. "We are approaching the game looking for an immediate reaction."
