Factbox-China exempts some US imports from tariffs
(Reuters) -China has granted tariff exemptions on select pharmaceuticals, microchips and aircraft engines from its 125% retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods imposed after President Donald Trump unleashed his tariffs in April.
It has created a so-called "whitelist" of U.S.-made products that would be exempted from its tariffs, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters, and some companies have said they have been able to import to China without paying the duties.
Below are some companies that have said their imports have been free of China's retaliatory tariffs:
HEALTHCARE
** SIEMENS HEALTHINEERS: CEO Bernd Montag said on May 7 that some of the German medical technology group's products, such as the so-called reagents in its diagnostics business, had been exempted from Chinese tariffs.
If reagents, substances that cause chemical reactions, were imported with the newly imposed tariffs, their costs would more than double, Montag said in a press call.
** DIASORIN: The Italian diagnostics firm said on May 6 that more often than not, tariffs were not being applied to its goods when they pass customs in China.
** Pharmaceutical companies have reported that they had been able to import some drugs with tariff exemptions, the Beijing-based American Chamber of Commerce said on April 25.
SEMICONDUCTORS
** A source at a memory chip design firm said on April 25 that the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) had informed it of waivers on imports of eight types of microchips, with analogue chips exempted but not memory chips.
AEROSPACE
** SAFRAN: The head of the French engine maker said on April 25 that China had decided to grant exemptions for some aircraft parts, including jet engines.
CHEMICALS
** China has waived the tariff on ethane imports, two sources with knowledge of the matter said on April 29.

Rubio congratulates Russian people on Russia Day
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated the Russian people on June 12, Russia's National Day, and expressed a desire for "constructive engagement" to bring peace to Ukraine. "On behalf of the American people, I want to congratulate the Russian people on Russia Day," Rubio said in a statement published on the State Department's website. "The United States remains committed to supporting the Russian people as they continue to build on their aspirations for a brighter future." After taking office in January, the new U.S. administration took a sharp break from ex-President Joe Biden's policy on Ukraine and Russia. U.S. President Donald Trump's team has sought to broker a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow while being reluctant to commit additional funds or military aid to the besieged country. "It is our hope that peace will foster more mutually beneficial relations between our countries," Rubio said. Washington has also signaled an intent to restore ties with Moscow, with both sides discussing venues for possible economic cooperation. While the Biden administration imposed massive sanctions on Russia and sought to isolate Russian President Vladimir Putin on the international stage, Trump has often boasted about his close ties with the Russian leader and refused to impose additional economic restrictions. Russia Day, also known as the Day of Adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, has been celebrated annually on June 12 since 1992. The day commemorates the declaration of Russia's state sovereignty from the Soviet Union, marking the start of a constitutional reform that eventually led to the breakdown of the USSR. Trump Launches Signup Website For $5M ‘Trump Card' Visas
President Donald Trump on Wednesday night announced the $5 million Gold Card visa is now open for signups, allowing wealthy foreign nationals to register their interest in the program, which intends to offer them a fast track to U.S. citizenship—something the president has suggested may replace the existing investor visa program. US President Donald Trump holds the $5 million dollar Gold Card as he speaks to reporters while in ... More flight on board Air Force One, en route to Miami, Florida in April. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump shared a link to the website—which refers to the visa as 'The Trump Card.' In his post, Trump claimed, 'Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up,' for the program and noted, 'THE WAITING LIST IS NOW OPEN.' The website itself is thin on information, with no dates mentioned for when the so-called 'Trump Card' will be available other than a mention that it 'is coming.' The signup form on the website asks people to share their names, the region of the world they are from, if they are a business or an individual, and if they are signing up for themselves or someone else. According to the site, people who sign up will be 'notified the moment access opens' for the visa. The site also includes an image of the 'Trump Card,' featuring a photo and signature of the president—a version of which he showed reporters aboard Air Force One back in April. Trump first announced the gold card in February and he said it would grant recipients the same privileges as green card holders, who have permanent residency in the U.S. Trump argued the card was a way to get 'wealthy people' to invest in the U.S. by 'spending a lot of money, paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people.' Trump has claimed he does not need Congressional approval to launch the program, arguing that its beneficiaries are only offered a quicker path to citizenship rather than outright buying citizenship. At the time of the announcement, the president suggested that the gold card program could be rolled out within two weeks. But since then, details about a timeline have been scant. Last month, billionaire Elon Musk, who at the time was heading the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency, tweeted that the government was 'doing a quiet trial' of the program, 'to make sure the system works properly.' Musk added: 'Once it is fully tested, it will be rolled out to the public with an announcement by the President.' But it is unclear what this supposed trial entailed. The Wired also reported last month that some 'U.S. permanent residents and foreign visitors' signing up for the Customs and Border Patrol's 'Global Entry' trusted traveller program were being asked if they had applied for the 'Trump Card Visa.' The new Trump Card website makes no mention of a launch date.
