Mawi cancels 20th anniversary concert

Yahooa day ago
8 Aug - After eight months of delay, it was revealed that Mawi's first ever solo concert, "Tsumawi 20 Mawi World Live" has now been cancelled.
Organiser Showtag Asia made the announcement on 6 August, saying that the concert had to be cancelled due to "several unavoidable factors".
"We apologise for all the inconvenience caused and thank everybody for their support. For ticket refunds, you can directly WhatsApp the Admin at +6012-949 4284," the post added.
The organiser stated that it was not an easy decision to make, as they have tried their best to make the concert a reality.
"To all that had been waiting, and who have supported us and encouraged us, we express our deepest gratitude. We appreciate each and every one of you," they added.
Mawi first announced the concert in September last year, saying that he will be performing at the Megastar Arena in Kuala Lumpur in January 2025.
However, in December, the organiser announced that the concert has been postponed to July 2025 as a way of respect towards the victims of the flood that occurred in several states.

Wembley Stadium investigates claim people were smuggled into Oasis shows without tickets

An investigation has been launched into reports that up to 200 people were able to sneak into Oasis's concerts at Wembley Stadium without tickets. The Britpop legends played the London venue five times between 25 July to 3 August as part of their ongoing 2025 reunion tour, with a further two shows scheduled for September. Tickets sold out in hours when they went on sale last year, after brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher announced that they were reuniting for the first time since their infamous split in 2009. Unprecedented demand was met with a surge in ticket prices and a row over Ticketmaster's so-called 'dynamic pricing', which the company denied using. It has now been reported that some people paid £350 each to be smuggled into Wembley through a disabled entrance across the five gigs, allegedly using copies of the same ticket to get through security. The Sun reports that those people were handed wristbands by members of security that gave them access to the VIP area in front of the stage. One fan claimed: 'We were given our tickets, which were all the same, and a woman drew a shape on our hands. We were told to go to the disabled door at entrance M, even though our tickets said entrance F. 'We showed our stamped hands to the person on the door, they scanned the tickets, even though we all had the same one, and let us in.' Another member of staff apparently then handed them a 'golden circle' wristband and 'that was it. There were zero security searches. We just walked straight in.' Sky News reports that six people were arrested for suspected unauthorised entry during the shows, while 24 were ejected from the venue on the same grounds. A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said in a statement: 'Entering Wembley Stadium without a ticket is a serious offence and we are investigating these allegations. 'If they are substantiated, we will refer our evidence to the police.' The Independent has contacted Wembley Stadium and Oasis's representatives for comment. Oasis are currently in Edinburgh, Scotland, where they will play two further shows tonight (Saturday 9 August) and Tuesday (11 August), after their first gig at Murrayfield Stadium on Friday. They will then perform at Dublin's Croke Park before heading to Japan, South Korea, South America, Australia and North America later this year. On Friday night, Liam Gallagher hit out at City of Edinburgh council over a report that predicted fans would be 'rowdy' and 'intoxicated' during their shows at Murrayfield. Speaking in front of around 70,000 fans, Liam branded the council a 'bunch of snakes' and said his band were 'still waiting for our apology'. Meanwhile, The Independent reported this week of 'outrageous' price hikes for hotels and accommodation as the band's shows clash with Edinburgh Fringe festival. The Independent found prices approaching £4,000 for accommodation. With 92 per cent of hotels and lodgings sold out on sites including Expedia listed one 12-bedroom house at £8,009 – the cost falling by almost half a month later. Meanwhile, one luxury hotel was charging £3,599 for a suite, with more affordable options no longer available.

NDP 2025: Hope and anticipation as Singapore's 60th birthday bash kicks off

SINGAPORE – A sense of anticipation thrummed at the Padang on Aug 9 as the crowd waited for the kick-off to the National Day Parade (NDP) celebrations. The slight drizzle and relentless heat had nothing on the audience, who sang along to familiar national favourites piped through speakers and thumped energetically to the beat with inflatable thunder sticks. It was, after all, Singapore's 60th birthday bash – and the 27,000 people in attendance were ready to celebrate. A segment in the pre-show of wishes penned by Singaporeans drew laughter, and some crowd favourites were 'I want to do well for Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)!' and 'I want to be on television!', and heartfelt ones like 'I want us to feel safe and welcomed!' and 'I want us to support each other!'. Several Padang waves later, the giant screens showed hosts Joakim Gomez, Sonia Chew, Ebi Shankara and Siti Khalijah 'teleporting' from the stage at the Padang to an MRT train. To the soundtrack Makin' Our Way, written and composed by home-grown artist Benjamin Kheng, a film showed the hosts riding the train to scenes in Singapore's history, before they hopped onto a Singapore Big Bus. There was a surprise appearance made by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in the film, who played a riff on an electric guitar at the back of that Singapore Big Bus – to loud cheers from the audience at the Padang. It was then when the hosts pulled up in person at the Padang. The atmosphere turned electric when it became clear that the show had started proper, with the four hosts breaking into song and dance on the Padang stage. Not a moment was wasted thereafter, as thrilling music drew eyes skywards to the impending arrival of the Red Lions parachutists. Phones were whipped out, necks craned, and breaths bated as the seven skydivers – leaping from the aircraft at 3,050m above ground and at first appearing as small dots in the sky – spiralled downwards. The Red Lions linked their arms together to form a circle, before dispersing in a 'bomb burst' manoeuvre complete with red smoke trails to resemble a flower opening. At about 1,220m above ground, the Red Lions deployed their parachutes for their descent onto the Padang to resounding cheers from the audience. The Red Lions' arrival was just half of the perennial crowd favourite. In the inaugural Jump of Unity at the 2025 parade, seven naval divers parachuted into Marina Bay from a helicopter at about 1,830m above ground. Their splashdown in Marina Bay was similarly met with thunderous roars from the massive crowd gathered at the promontory on the bay. After their dramatic jumps, the 14 Red Lions and naval divers performed a combined simultaneous salute from their separate landing sites. Audience members then turned their eyes to a video featuring Singaporeans from all walks of life talking about their wishes for their community and themselves. As night fell, the camera panned to members of the crowd holding up their wish placards, illuminating the idea of collective hope for the nation's future.
