Boho Glam Midi Dress
'This midi dress from Farm Rio is like an elevated T-shirt dress. It's so comfortable, very flattering, and oh-so chic! I recently wore it on a girls' trip and received so many compliments. I love that it can be dressed up or easily thrown on with a cute pair of sneakers.' — Caroline Neely, Account Executive
Pin
Miami Two-Strap Sandals
'Baby's first pair of Crocs! After tons of research, I decided to purchase these for a trip overseas with LOTS of rain in the forecast. These sandals saw me through every possible terrain, including a rocky beach. They're super comfortable and INCREDIBLY lightweight, so they're easy to pack — a total win for travel. I went for versatile black (as I tend to do), but there are several other fun colors to choose from. (Heads up: I was only able to find these online on the official Crocs website, and they took a few days to ship.)' — Alissa Harb, Managing Editor

Strawberries & Creme Vita Coco
'I've always been a Vita Coco fan because there's nothing quite like naturally hydrating coconut water. But my latest Costco discovery, Strawberries & Creme Vita Coco, just took things to a whole new level. It tastes like the Starbucks Pink Drink, only at a fraction of the price, and now I always have a few bottles chilling in my fridge.' — Robert Conklin, Digital Developer

Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen
'This face sunscreen from Neutrogena is my go-to. I use it daily, and I love it because it's lightweight and not too oily. Plus, the bottle is small enough to throw in my purse when I inevitably need to reapply throughout the day.' — Brianna Goebel, Sponsored Content Manager & Associate Editor
Pin
Men's Training Shorts
'For people who like the WHOOP band (which I also recommend!), I've been loving my new WHOOP shorts for summer.' — Jay Graves, COO
Pin
Gold Strappy Sandals
'These are my new favorite summer sandals! They're super comfy and match any dress, pair of jean shorts, or romper in your closet. Plus, they're under $50.' — Katelyn Caughron, Client Relations & Social Media Coordinator
Pin
Medina Market Basket
'The Medina Market Basket is glued to my side all summer long. Not only is it super cute, but it's durable and can tote around just about anything, thanks to its convenient size. I use it for beach days, picnics, boating, and any occasion where I need to toss a variety of miscellaneous things into a bag and call it a day!' — Kate Feinberg, Associate Editor & Sponsored Content Specialist
Pin
Snug Crop T-Shirt
'Give me this shirt in every single color. I've been living in these all summer. They're high quality, fit perfectly, and just make me feel polished and confident.' — Zoe Yarborough, Staff Writer
Pin
Every Day Shimmer Mineral Sunscreen
'Serious sun protection with a little shimmer? Yes, please. This reef-safe, water-resistant sunscreen is made with non-nano zinc and tested to be safe for you and the ocean. The shimmer version gives your skin a soft, radiant glow — and just the right amount of sparkle to feel a little extra.' — Mary Breen, Web Designer
Pin
RYOBI Cordless Misting Fan
'If you despise being outside in the swampy summer air (I do), and your body rejects the heat (mine does), this RYOBI fan is a breath of fresh air. Literally. But wait for it … it's also a mister! Prop it on top of a bucket of water, and voilà — an instant personal cooling station that turns even the stickiest afternoon into something dangerously close to enjoyable.' — Jenna Bratcher, Associate Editor & Lead Nashville Writer

SB Hot List: 12 Game-Changing Discoveries

As another sweltering month starts to wind down, we're sharing some of the hottest items on our radar right now. From products we've added to our makeup bag to Amazon finds we can't stop gushing about, we're sharing a peek into Monday morning conversations among the StyleBlueprint team. Here's this month's edition of the SB Hot List! This article contains product affiliate links. We may receive a commission if you make a purchase after clicking on one of these links. Diyana Impex Cloth Napkins 'I was at a friend's house for dinner, and her colorful little cloth napkins totally stole the show (that and her sassy brood of chickens!). I went straight home and ordered my own. Napkins. Not chickens. They're perfect for dressing up a casual meal, adding charm to picnics and barbecues, and — bonus — cutting down on paper towel waste. With fun patterns and vibrant colors, these are an easy way to make any meal feel a little more fancy (and eco-friendly).' — Jenna Bratcher, Lead Nashville Writer & Associate Editor Pin LIGHT FLIGHT Travel Backpack 'I used to travel with a massive purse, but this backpack was a game-changer! With my laptop, notebooks, books, snacks, and accessories, it's super lightweight, and as someone who loves to stay organized, there are so many compartments to make organization easy. I never have to fumble for my phone, passport, or charger — each has its own dedicated spot! It comes in 11 different colors and can slip easily onto your carry-on.' — Kate Feinberg, Associate Editor & Sponsored Content Specialist Pin Yoto Mini 'My cousin recommended the Yoto Mini, and it's my favorite new find for kids. It lets my kids pick stories to listen to at bedtime without having to use a device (and me having to worry about how they are using a device at bedtime). You can get a ton of stories and music on their little cards, or you can buy cards to record your own. I'm asking the grandparents to read aloud stories that they love.' — Sarah Finklea, Sales Operations Manager Cable Management Box 'I have some unsightly cords and powerstrips, and I have finally covered them up using these baskets. I chose a color that matches my wood floors, so they almost disappear. For less than $20 on Amazon, these are great!' — Liza Graves, CEO & Founder Fishwife Tinned Fish 'Tinned seafood is on-trend, and my current obsession is Fishwife. They offer a wide variety of flavors and preparations — think albacore tuna in spicy olive oil, mussels in basil pesto, and smoked salmon with chili crisp. You can serve with grazing boards, in rice bowls, on crackers … there are so many uses. Plus, the packaging is cute and colorful, making this a GREAT go-to for hostess gifts. If you're new to tinned seafood, I recommend the starter pack, but they have a wide variety of other options, and their shipments even come with a clever little box of toothpicks for serving!' — Alissa Harb, Managing Editor Travel Makeup Mirror 'I've landed on the world's best travel mirror. This one packs tightly, has two different height adjustments, three light settings, and dimming capabilities. Plus, it makes for the perfect back-to-school gift!' — Anne Marie Hanna, Marketing Coordinator & Editorial Assistant Side by Side Chai Mix 'I've been loving this chai mix from Side by Side Chai. It's made in Nashville, and I bought it at White's Mercantile. It's been such a nice treat in the mornings (I'm not a huge coffee drinker) and has made me even more excited for fall.' — Hailey Cunningham, Account Executive Sleeveless Maxi Dress 'I bought this dress when I was nine months pregnant, and it's SO flattering even with a bump. But even if you're not expecting, it looks great on any body type and is a perfect transition piece. Throw on a jacket, sweater, sneakers, or sandals. Plus, it's so comfy!' — Katelyn Caughron, Client Relations & Social Media Coordinator YSE Wide Awake Eye Cream ' YSE Wide Awake Brightening Eye Cream is a total game-changer! It instantly hydrates and brightens my skin, leaving my under-eyes fresh and awake. I use it every morning — the cooling applicator, brightening boost, and burst of moisture make my tired eyes look revived in seconds.' — Caroline Neely, Account Executive Aplós Chili Margarita Mocktail 'I was recently visiting family in Minnesota when I spotted a pack of Aplós mocktails in my mom's fridge. I'm a margarita lover through and through, so I immediately opted for the chili margarita. Poured into a fancy glass over ice, it's the perfect pick-me-up — equal parts refreshing and delicious. Bonus: The brand offers other fun twists on other classic cocktails, too!' — Brianna Goebel, Sponsored Content Manager & Associate Editor Aritzia Scoopneck Cami Tank 'I am OBSESSED with these Aritzia tanks. They're so flattering and comfortable. Perfect for wearing on their own during this August heat or for layering during transition weather.' — Bailey Torkelson, Marketing Manager Havaianas Flatform Sandals 'The Havaianas Flatform Flip Flops are my summer go‑to: comfortable, durable, and featuring a chunky sole I love. They're the perfect addition to any hot‑weather outfit.' — Madison Huskey, Digital Account Coordinator

Horses, Family Dogs & Climbing Ivy Charmed Guests at This AL Wedding

Of course, every bride and groom deserves a moment to shine on their wedding day. At this stunning outdoor ceremony just outside Birmingham, however, the animals in attendance simply couldn't help but turn heads. From graceful horses making surprise cameos to the couple's adorable dogs standing proud during the ceremony, these wedding photos will melt your heart! Pin Alex and Tera matched on Bumble in 2019, but back then, dating apps weren't quite as mainstream as they are now. Not wanting to make it a conversation piece among family and friends, they went with an alibi when asked how they met. 'For the longest time, we told people we met at a Birmingham Barons game on a Thirsty Thursday. If you know, you know,' Tera tells us. When it came time to propose, Alex decided to pop the question on a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The couple was vacationing with Tera's brother and his now-fiancée, who also happens to be Tera's best friend. Alex knew it would be the perfect opportunity for a stunning sunset proposal with those closest to Tera by her side. With the help of Stefany Keisler of Creating Moments Wedding and Events, the couple invited 100 guests to the gorgeous Windwood Equestrian estate in Pelham for the ceremony and reception. 'I knew I wanted an outdoor wedding, and the venue is stunning — elegant, European vibes, exactly what I envisioned,' Tera says. Pin Pin Alex and Tera knew their dogs would be part of the big day. 'They're basically our children, so it was a no-brainer,' Tera says. 'They walked down the aisle with the wedding party and somehow managed to stay up there the whole ceremony.' Tera says the color scheme for the day came from a lifelong love of blue hydrangeas … along with hours spent on Pinterest. With light blue and white as her primary colors, her bridesmaids' dresses added a bright pop of yellow. 'My bridesmaids' dresses were inspired by the iconic yellow dress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,' Tera says. When asked about her own dress, Tera laughs as she explains, 'It was everything I thought I didn't want.' The strapless, A-line silhouette with a high slit and long, dramatic train had not been on her vision board when she tried it on at The Something Blue Shoppe in Hartselle, AL. 'I went in thinking I wanted something sleek, simple, and form-fitting,' Tera says, 'but when I put it on, it just felt right. It was timeless, traditional, and felt like a true wedding dress.' Tera and Alex did a few things their own way during the ceremony, including public and private vows. 'We did private vows to each other before the ceremony, then during the ceremony we mixed in some traditional vows with a few personal touches,' Tera explains. However, the vows didn't exactly go as planned. 'I forgot to transfer my vows from my phone to a cute notebook, so I ended up scribbling them on a sheet of paper while getting my hair and makeup done,' Tera recalls, 'Meanwhile, my husband had his perfectly written in a little book.' Luckily, the ceremony concluded just before a rain shower moved in. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with passed hors d'oeuvres in Windwood's chic stables. A grand charcuterie board offered artisan breads, imported cheeses, antipasto, and fresh fruit, plus a Swiss cheese and bacon-stuffed pastry and heirloom tomato bruschetta. Dinner was buffet-style and included all the Southern staples: smoked brisket, BBQ chicken, mac and cheese, baked beans, potatoes au gratin, cornbread, and salad. For dessert, banana pudding shooters and peach cobbler were served. When the bride and groom walked out for their first dance as husband and wife, they were thrown a bit of a curveball. 'Our first dance was to I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith, but the band played the wrong version,' Tera recalls, 'so we completely winged it!' The wedding cake was simple, beautiful vanilla buttercream. Thanks to a creative touch, you might never guess it was delivered with a bright green top instead of the pale blue they'd intended! 'My mom cut it off the morning of, and we just stuck flowers on top!' Tera says. The couple made their exit as guests popped streamers for a fun send-off. But the party was just getting started. 'We hopped on a party bus with our bridal party and their plus-ones to head back to Birmingham and keep the celebration going,' Tera says. She recalls the after-party as one of the day's highlights, saying, 'I think it was because all the stress was gone. The wedding and reception were incredible, but that moment of singing and dancing with all our best friends felt so carefree and fun — it was just pure celebration.' Even with a wedding planner, Tera says the time commitment of planning a wedding was way more than she expected, saying, 'The amount of tiny details to think about was insane.' Still, she says it's true what they say – it really is the fastest day of your life. Her advice: 'Be truly present. Don't spend hair and makeup time stressing about the ceremony, or the cocktail hour, or thinking about the reception. Enjoy each part of the day as it comes.' Harlem Hellfighters Honored in Kentucky Black Trailblazers

Share with your friends! Pinterest LinkedIn Email Flipboard Reddit When recalling Kentucky history, names like Alexander Beaumont (a cook and private in the U.S. Colored Troops) and Oliver Lewis (the first Kentucky Derby winner) are too often overlooked. Now, their stories and those of 17 other trailblazing African Americans are brought to life through Kentucky Black Trailblazers, an immersive augmented reality (AR) experience spanning six counties. With the help of their smartphones, visitors can stand among war hero graves and hear Harlem Hellfighters recount WWI, or visit Muhammad Ali's hometown to learn about the segregation he faced despite global fame, bringing long-overdue recognition to these impactful lives. Pin How Kentucky Black Trailblazers Came to Be Janette Marson, president and CEO of ShelbyKY Tourism, says the wine brand 19 Crimes initially sparked the idea for Kentucky Black Trailblazers. 'You can use your smartphone on the QR codes on the wine bottles, and then an augmented reality experience appears before you,' she explains. 'I've always wanted to use that technology in conjunction with tourism, but it was cost-prohibitive.' Thanks to a multi-jurisdictional grant from the American Rescue Plan Act, Janette and ShelbyKY Tourism Vice President Mason Warren (along with partners in five other Kentucky counties) were able to secure funding for the project. 'Even though ShelbyKY Tourism took the lead,' Janette says, 'there is no way that Mason and I could have done this by ourselves.' She adds that it took a team of more than 100 people to get the project up and running, and it all started with finding stories to tell. Each county team met with Black historians to determine which tales fit best. Once the stories were selected, they moved on to scriptwriting. Writing Scripts and Writing Code 'The scripts were written by Black historians,' Janette adds, explaining that they went through the production process with three questions in mind: What does the Black community in each area want to hear? What stories do they want to tell? And in what way should those stories be told? 'The stories are wonderful … stories of resilience, triumph over adversity, and just some of the most incredible, not necessarily well-known people,' Janette adds. 'They … are lesser known, but did incredible things — not just for Kentucky, but for the United States as well.' With the help of Black actors, costume designers, and a Black director, the Kentucky counties hired Tactic — the same company that created the AR storytelling for 19 Crimes — to pull it all together. Pin Using technology similar to Pokémon GO, which blends the real world with the virtual world through augmented reality and GPS technology, Kentucky Black Trailblazers came to life in July 2024. Since then, thousands of QR code scans have allowed people to experience Kentucky legacies in a new dimension. Each location is linked to Google Maps coordinates, making it easy to find spots off the beaten path. Once someone gets started with their first QR code, the app acts as a digital passport of sorts, tracking their way along the trail. Pin The Trailblazers 'You've got all 19 people listed on your app,' Janette explains, 'and as you do an experience, it becomes full color — almost like you're getting a digital sticker for completing that experience.' The stories of strength and resilience include those of: Daniel Arthur Rudd , who co-founded the American Catholic Tribune and was a founding member of the Catholic Press Association , who co-founded the American Catholic Tribune and was a founding member of the Catholic Press Association Dorsey Wickliffe , a black enslaved nanny who cared for the children of some of Kentucky's most prominent figures , a black enslaved nanny who cared for the children of some of Kentucky's most prominent figures Mack Rowan , who was born with clubfoot and became a highly sought-after master boot and shoemaker for bespoke footwear , who was born with clubfoot and became a highly sought-after master boot and shoemaker for bespoke footwear The First Black Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, a testament to the enduring spirit and faith of the African American community in Elizabethtown, a testament to the enduring spirit and faith of the African American community General Braddock , a body servant to a British general during the French and Indian War, also believed to have served with George Washington before being enslaved , a body servant to a British general during the French and Indian War, also believed to have served with George Washington before being enslaved Margaret 'Ma' Collier , the first African American woman to serve as a hostess in military service clubs , the first African American woman to serve as a hostess in military service clubs Mary Cunningham Smith , whose actions helped lead to African Americans securing the right to sit and ride on Louisville streetcars long before the civil rights movement , whose actions helped lead to African Americans securing the right to sit and ride on Louisville streetcars long before the civil rights movement Muhammad Ali , a world-renowned symbol of greatness both inside and outside the boxing ring , a world-renowned symbol of greatness both inside and outside the boxing ring Oliver Lewis , a cook and private in Company E of the 116th Infantry, U.S. Colored Troops, who fought for liberation and justice , a cook and private in Company E of the 116th Infantry, U.S. Colored Troops, who fought for liberation and justice Eliza Brooks , who escaped slavery at the age of 50 with her two children and a friend , who escaped slavery at the age of 50 with her two children and a friend Henry Bibb , who was born into slavery and later became a leading abolitionist and advocate for freedom , who was born into slavery and later became a leading abolitionist and advocate for freedom Elijah P. 'That was surprising and wonderful.' Though Kentucky Black Trailblazers currently features 19 stories, Janette hopes to eventually expand its coverage, perhaps adding more tales or expanding upon the existing ones. 'The project truly is an experience,' she exclaims. 'It brings history to life in a completely new way. I don't think I've been with anyone who didn't walk away feeling … changed. It just feels immersive and transformational.' ********** Give your inbox the Southern makeover it deserves. Subscribe to our daily emails.
