She says they were introduced at a restaurant while she was having dinner with her dad, and he made a great impression.
She bumped into the Fantastic Beasts actor by chance a year later in LA, and she thought: "Oh, it's that really hot guy from The River Cafe.
"We both just happened to be reading the same book".
Dua believes it was fate that brought them together, and reveals: "We're engaged. It's very exciting."
Dua tells Vogue Calum had the ring customed made and he sought advice from her best friends and her sister.
The Houdini hitmaker gushes: "I'm obsessed with it. It's so me. It's nice to know the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well."
The couple are now waiting for her Radical Optimism Tour to end before planning their wedding.
She says: "I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period.
"I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be.
"All of a sudden I'm like: 'Oh, what would I wear?'"
Shoppers stunned as pop megastar spotted buying groceries at the supermarket - would you have noticed her
Dua, who stuns on the cover of Vogue in satin lingerie, also opens up about her teenage years in North London.
From the age of 12 to 15 she lived in Kosovo, but her parents allowed her to return to London where she was born to pursue her dream of singing.
With the consent of her parents she lived in a flat with a family friend and attended secondary school.
But Dua failed her A Levels because she was always out clubbing around Camden, adding: "When I was young, trying to get into clubs was kind of easy because every bouncer was Albanian.
"All I needed to do was speak Albanian to the bouncer."
Her love of going out helped nurture her dreams: "My whole goal, with my show, is: 'I want to start people dancing and I want them to leave for home dancing.
"And I guess that is to do with my love of going out and bringing people together in that time."
Sources told The Sun back in January that Dua was engaged.
They said: 'Dua and Callum are so in love and know this is forever.
'They are engaged and couldn't be happier.
'Dua has had one of the best years of her career professionally and this is the cherry on the cake.
'Callum is such a solid support for Dua and they make a wonderful couple. Their family and friends are so happy. It's been an amazing Christmas for them.'

Dua Lipa reveals her family plans with fiancé Callum Turner after confirming their engagement

Dua Lipa has revealed she would 'love' to have children with her fiancé Callum Turner after announcing their engagement. The singer, 29, who turns 30 in August, publicly shared her excitement for the first time since the actor, 35, got down on one knee. The hitmaker posed for the front cover of British Vogue where she looked stunning in a pale pink bra that highlighted her jaw-dropping figure. In the interview, Dua disussed her family plans, saying she's concerned how having children will fit in with her career as a pop star. 'I'd love to have kids one day,' she said. 'But it's like the constant question of when would there ever be a good time – how it would fit in with my job and how it would work if I went on tour, and how much time out I'd have to take. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I think it's just one of those things that's going to happen when it happens. I love kids, but I think there's so much more to raising a child than just loving children.' Confirming their engagement, Dua said: 'Yeah we're engaged. It's very exciting. 'This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever — it's a really special feeling.' Late last year, news of their romantic proposal emerged and Dua has regularly been seen with a dazzling diamond ring on her finger. Speaking of their wedding plans, Dua said she hopes to finish her tour and Callum to wrap up filming before they tie the knot. While the wedding hasn't been at the forefront of her mind amid her busy schedule touring, she did admit she has started to think about her dress. She said: 'I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period. 'I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be. All of a sudden, I'm like: "Oh, what would I wear?"' Speaking of their wedding plans, Dua said she hopes to finish her tour and Callum to wrap up filming before they tie the knot Dua said she's 'obsessed' with her engagement ring, before insisting 'It's nice to know the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well.' Dua and Callum were first linked in January 2024 and reportedly got engaged over Christmas in 2024. 'I think it's just one of those things that's going to happen when it happens. I love kids, but I think there's so much more to raising a child than just loving children.' Dua and Callum had 'many Sliding Doors moments', where they were in the same place at the same time without realising, before being introduced to one another at the River Cafe in London. A year later, she was having dinner in Los Angeles with her friend Mustafa the Poet when 'all of a sudden' Callum appeared. She thought: 'Oh, it's that really hot guy from The River Cafe.' During their conversation, the pair realised they both 'just happened to be reading' Hernan Diaz's novel Trust. Asked if she feels they were destined to be together, she replied: 'One thousand per cent.' Dua and Callum first sparked romance rumours in January 2024 when they both attended a Masters Of The Air afterparty in London. Prior to making her relationship public, the Dance the Night songstress revealed during promotion for her album Radical Optimism that she had to find her 'confidence' again after previous relationships had gone awry. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she revealed: 'In terms of relationships, I needed to get to this place in order to find what I really needed. You have to be in the act of forgiveness and growing and learning, and being okay with the past in order to move on with what's to come next. 'So it's, for me, Happy for You is a beautiful, happy song, because it's so reflective of my journey. 'I think with every relationship, with every experience you learn about yourself, you learn about things that are hurtful to you, what you expect, what you should be ready to give as well. 'I think, again, it goes back to that exchange of vulnerability. 'I think I've had relationships which have been really hurtful, especially earlier on, where I feel like I've been made to feel like not good enough or have made me lose my confidence and I've had to find that again. 'You learn about your own non-negotiables. I think that's an important thing. It's of course the right person, but it's really about the right relationship. 'You find that in friendships and in love relationships as well, of your non-negotiables.'
