Zaid snubbed for turncoat tendency after owing up to UMNO for showing up at ‘Turun Anwar' rally
This came about after UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated the likelihood of an internal probe on party members who attended the PAS-inspired event at Dataran Merdeka.
According to Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, UMNO as a component of the unity alliance firmly adheres to the principle of supporting and strengthening the Madani government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
'I want to see first who is present. My team and I will ask why they are present. We want to know the reason for their presence there,' he had told a media conference after officiating the Raub Division UMNO representative meeting in Raub, Pahang yesterday (July 27).
This statement promoted the opposition-slant Zaid who became an UMNO member 'by default' while he served as the defence attorney momentarily for incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak to owe up without any second thought.
'Well, let me make it easy for them: I was there. Not only that; I gave speeches too,' he penned on X.
Heard that Umno is now checking on members who took part in the 26 July Rally.

'But I didn't say anything I haven't already written and spoken about for months; about the unbearable cost of living, the burdensome taxes and how the Madani government has failed the rakyat.'
In his self-defence, Zaid further stressed that he did not lie nor 'betray anyone' by virtue of joining the rally.
'I didn't promise not to work with DAP or Anwar, only to turn around and do the opposite,' he cynically justified.
'I didn't participate in the charade about the hidden addendum. If speaking the truth is now a punishable offence in UMNO, then perhaps they should look at themselves in the mirror before judging others.'
This is when brickbats were hurled at Zaid for assuming that he is an asset in UMNO when the actual fact is that 'you're irrelevant'.
'Do you seriously think UMNO need you?' wondered one commenter. 'I wanted to tell you to grow up but can you? You're like an 'old turkey' with tough meat that can't be softened even if boiled with papaya roots. LOL.'
Others chided him by criticising him for his frog-like nature of 'leaping from one party to another' while 'playing all sides'. As such, his presence or absence from UMNO is immaterial if his heart lies in the struggle of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
The bottom line, as some commenters aptly put it, is for Zaid who had also been previously associated with DAP, KITA (Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air) and PKR to have the decency to just quit UMNO if he feels that he cannot longer toe the party's line. – July 28, 2025

[UPDATED] Anwar: Sulawesi Sea talks must honour legal, historical claims
KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that any discussion involving the Sulawesi Sea must be based on legal and historical considerations. He added that the outcomes require the agreement of both the Sabah government and the state legislative assembly. He said the recent 13th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation meeting with Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto concerning the Sulawesi Sea was conducted in the presence of Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. "In line with the principles of the Madani government, matters such as border delimitation must involve state leaders, including those from Sabah. "I think the Chief Minister (Hajiji) should hear it directly, to express his views, and to be aware of what was discussed," he said during the closing of the three-day National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's event at Sabah International Convention Centre here. Regarding the Sulawesi Sea, Anwar said he had made it clear, in the presence of Hajiji, that the issue must be discussed based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and historical antecedents. The dispute in the Sulawesi Sea involving overlapping maritime claims between East Kalimantan (Indonesia) and southeastern Sabah (Malaysia) has persisted since Malaysia published a map of its maritime boundaries in 1979. According to a written reply dated July 22 published on the Parliament website, the Foreign Ministry maintains that the ND6 and ND7 oil exploration blocks in the Sulawesi Sea fall within Malaysian sovereign territory under international law. "Most importantly, any decision must have the agreement of the Sabah state government and, ultimately, the State Legislative Assembly. "I have chosen to respond as the representative of the federal government, and I will defend Sabah's rights. "This is our country. We will not allow even a single inch of land or sea to be encroached upon or claimed by anyone. "When it came to the court case in Spain involving the Sulu heirs' claims over Sabah, we fought with maximum effort to defend Sabah's sovereignty."

Saravanan's remarks a personal opinion, says Umno vice-president
Umno vice-president Johari Ghani speaking at the Pasir Gudang Umno delegates' meeting today. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : An Umno vice-president has dismissed M Saravanan's remarks as his personal opinion after the MIC deputy president hinted that the party may quit Barisan Nasional. Johari Ghani said such remarks, especially those made in anger or frustration, should not be viewed as the party's stance, Berita Harian reported. 'Did he say it, or did his party say it? He can't decide for the party. If it's a decision made by the party, that's a different matter,' Johari was quoted as saying. 'Sometimes people speak out of anger. We should let things calm down first. Don't complicate matters.' MIC, which holds only one parliamentary seat, in Tapah, again voiced its dissatisfaction recently over being sidelined within the unity government, saying it felt like an 'unwanted guest'. Saravanan reportedly claimed the party had been promised a Cabinet post after the 2022 general election, only to be 'cheated' when the promise was not fulfilled. When asked whether MIC was considering joining Perikatan Nasional, he said: 'Right now, I dare not say yes or no.' Last Sunday, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he believed that MIC was guaranteed a better future by remaining with the coalition despite its discontent over not being given any role in the unity government. Earlier today however, MIC president SA Vigneswaran said they were prepared to engage in discussions with any political party to ensure its survival and better serve the Indian community.

Nearly 30 DAP MPs visit Umno HQ, hosted by Zahid
The DAP MPs were at the Umno HQ for a briefing on TVET hosted by deputy prime minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Close to 30 DAP MPs visited the Umno headquarters at Menara Dato Onn earlier this week, in what one leader described as a historic first for both parties. Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said the MPs were there for a briefing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET), hosted by deputy prime minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Zahid also chairs the national TVET council. 'It marked the first time that such a large group of DAP MPs visited Umno's headquarters, a sign of maturity and cooperation within the unity government,' Chan said in a Facebook post. 'The Madani government is not perfect. But we are serious in discharging our responsibilities. 'We are working to overcome ideological and party differences for the sake of national progress. Nation-building requires unity, not uniformity, and that's the spirit we're committed to.' The DAP leaders who attended the briefing included the party's secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, adviser Lim Guan Eng, and vice-chairman Chong Chieng Jen. Also present were Umno vice-president Johari Ghani and secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. Umno played a key role in the formation of the unity government, joining hands with its former archenemy, DAP, in the aftermath of the 2022 general election. In June 2023, Loke joined Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Menara Dato Onn to attend that year's Umno general assembly, marking the first time that a DAP leader had attended the annual event. Zahid, Asyraf and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir attended DAP's national convention several months later.
