2025 Big Bets Report: Clemson CFP Title Will Equal $20k For Bettor
But some bettors are looking well beyond that date, all the way to the Jan. 19 College Football Playoff Championship Game. That includes a DraftKings Sportsbook customer looking to turn a few bucks into a lot more on a three-leg parlay.
Read on for more on that customer's wager and other notable bets as the calendar heads toward August.
Forward Thinking
Way back in April, a day before the Masters began, a bettor at DraftKings put a mere $14 on this three-leg futures parlay: Rory McIlroy +650 to win the Masters
Florida Panthers +800 to win the Stanley Cup
Clemson +2000 to win the College Football Playoff
Add those three up, and you've got odds of +141650, or in easier-to-digest terms, about 1417/1.
The first two legs have long since delivered. McIlroy beat Justin Rose in a playoff to win the Masters, and for the second straight year, Florida topped Edmonton to win the Stanley Cup.
So it's up to Clemson to finish it off.
If the Tigers win it all, then that 14 bucks turns into $19,845.
It's not far-fetched, either. Clemson has been a sharp offseason play in College Football Playoff odds, so much so that DraftKings has cut the Tigers' odds in half. Clemson is now the +1000 fifth choice to win the national title, behind only Ohio State (+500), Texas (+550), Georgia (+700) and Penn State (+750).
Baseball Bingo
Most of us don't know what it's like to cash a 12-leg parlay. Not only because most of us don't make 12-leg parlay bets, but more so because those bets rarely hit.
But when they do, the payout is pretty good. A William Hill US customer in Nevada found that out on Sunday.
The bettor mixed in some moneyline, runline and Over/Under plays on Sunday's MLB slate, wagering all of $5, at monster odds of +252029 — just beyond 2520/1.
Adding to the difficulty: six legs were on in-game odds.
All 12 legs got to the finish line, turning that bettor's five bucks into a healthy $12,601.49.
On Wednesday, another lottery-ticket-style win surfaced, at Caesars Sports. A Nevada customer crafted a nine-leg parlay on MLB player props.
The wager was $10.
Add up all those odds, and it totals out to about +114001, or 1140/1. Somehow, every leg got there and the bettor ended up with $11,408.22.
Punting on Pittsburgh
Back to football, NFL odds are starting to percolate, too. The preseason kicks off Thursday with the Hall of Fame Game, pitting the Indianapolis Colts against the Baltimore Ravens. The regular season is just six weeks away.
One of the more intriguing bets so far comes from a bettor who's hoping Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers have a complete disaster of a season. Caesars Sports took a $13.33 wager on the Steelers to go 0-17, at odds of +20000 (200/1).
Keep in mind, the Steelers have never even had a losing record in 18 years under coach Mike Tomlin. But if somehow Pittsburgh runs totally off the rails this season, then that small wager turns into $2,679.33.
I Like Big Bets and I Cannot Lie
When it comes to NFL futures betting, it's usually Super Bowl odds that attract the biggest wagers. AFC and NFC championship odds often see some high-dollar plays, as well.
But one of the biggest bets of the offseason is actually on division odds, specifically on the Buffalo Bills to win the AFC East.
A Caesars Sports customer plopped down a massive $250,000 on the Bills -250. If Josh Allen & Co. win their sixth straight AFC East title, then the bettor will profit $100,000 (total payout $350,000).
In Super Bowl odds, Caesars took a $60,000 bet on the Kansas City Chiefs +900. If K.C. gets back on track and wins its third title in four seasons, then the bettor collects $540,000 in profit (total payout $600,000).
Caesars took a comparatively much more modest bet on the New York Jets to win the AFC title. An optimistic customer put $5,000 on the Jets +7500 to lift the Lamar Hunt Trophy.
In the unlikely event that the Jets earn a trip to the Super Bowl, the bettor will profit a hefty $375,000.
All I can say is good luck. It'd be a phenomenal story to write about.

Shohei Ohtani strikes out in his first 4 plate appearances, a rare first
CINCINNATI — Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani had another first in his MLB career. Ohtani struck out in his first four plate appearances against the Cincinnati Reds, the first time he has done that in his eight seasons and 981 games in the majors. Against the Seattle Mariners on July 17, 2021, while playing for the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani popped up to the shortstop in his first at-bat and then struck out in his next four times at the plate. Despite Ohtani's tough night at the plate, the Dodgers rallied for a 5-4 victory on an RBI double by Will Smith in the ninth inning. 'Tonight, I just don't think he saw (Cincinnati starter Nick) Lodolo well at all, clearly. And I think he just got into swing mode,' manager Dave Roberts said. 'When he's (at his) best, he's getting the baseball up, and he's using the big part of the field. And especially in this ballpark where he doesn't need to go to right field. But tonight, just one of those nights that he just couldn't help him help himself from swinging.' Ohtani came into the game on a nine-game hitting streak, where he had gone 11 for 36 with six home runs 13 RBIs and nine runs scored. It is the sixth time the Japanese superstar and reigning NL MVP has struck out four times in a game. It is the second time this season, with the other coming against San Diego on June 17. Lodolo became the 13th pitcher to strike out Ohtani three times in a game. The Reds left-hander got Ohtani to chase a curveball out of the strike zone in the first and fifth innings, and got him looking on a 94.6 mph fastball in the third. 'I was going right after him. I definitely threw some good heaters in some good spots and I was able to spin the ball well too as well,' Lodolo said. Graham Ashcraft then whiffed Ohtani on an inside slider in the seventh. Ohtani was one strike away from his first five strikeout game before he flew out to right field on a 2-2 count in the ninth inning of a 4-4 game. Smith was the next batter and delivered the game-winning hit. Ohtani still leads the majors with 100 runs scored. He is atop the NL in slugging (.612), total bases (254), OPS (.989) and 38 home runs. Roberts hopes Ohtani is more disciplined at the plate in the series finale because Nick Martinez is the same type of pitcher as Lodolo. 'Martinez is gonna be nibbling, and it's going to be cutter and changeup down below. And he's got to get back to the big part of the field and not chase down below,' Roberts said. Ohtani also will be making his seventh pitching start of the season as the Dodgers look for him to go four innings as he comes back from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2023. Ohtani is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA.

The 2025 MLB trade deadline is just around the corner, and teams are already making moves. The Arizona Diamondbacks unofficially kicked things off last week by trading first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners, and several other teams got in the mix over the weekend. The Yankees made two acquisitions in Ryan McMahon and Ahmed Rosario, and the Mets traded for Gregory Soto. The action should continue in the coming days, as MLB's contenders scramble to add talent ahead of the season's stretch run. On Monday, Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase, considered a likely trade target, was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through Aug. 31 in connection with a sports-gambling investigation. Meanwhile, Diamondbacks All-Star 3B Eugenio Suárez, who many considered atop the MLB trade market, was hit in the hand by a fastball Monday evening. X-rays came back negative. On Tuesday, the action was headlined by a swap between the Orioles and Blue Jays, as Baltimore sent reliever Seranthony Domínguez to Toronto in exchange for RHP prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. Interestingly, the two teams were mid-series (and scheduled for a double-header), so following the trade, Domínguez had a short walk to his new team's clubhouse ... and a short turnaround time before stepping in to pitch in the second game of the day. Domínguez pitched the bottom of the seventh inning for the Blue Jays, notching two strikeouts. There aren't many superstars expected to be on the move ahead of this deadline, but every contender has a hole to fill. No team is running away from the field in the standings, which means some teams likely need to do something to stand out. The deadline is 6 p.m. ET Thursday. After that, the only ways teams can add to their rosters are by calling up minor leaguers or signing free agents, and any player who isn't in an organization by the end of August is ineligible for the postseason.
