Oregon has just one defensive player in EA Sports' Top 10 defenders in latest game
It's true in real life, and it's probably true in the video game rules, depending on your settings and sliders, of course.
The newest version of EA Sports' College Football 26 is set to release next week, and in anticipation, the ratings for every player in the game have been published, including the Top 10 defensive players' ratings in the game and the country.
It's curious that only one Oregon Duck appears in the Top 10 as the Ducks are expected to have one of the best defensive units in the country for 2025. But it's hard to argue with the other nine players listed. Perhaps college football is becoming more of a defensive game right now, which makes it even more important to have a really good offense and quarterback, in particular, in today's game.
Here are the Top 10 defensive players in college football, according to EA Sports.

Auburn EDGE Keldric Faulk included in Bednarik watch list
One of Auburn football's top defensive players has earned a spot on a prestigious award watchlist ahead of the 2025 season. Auburn EDGE rusher Keldric Faulk was one of 90 players named to the 2025 Bednarik Award Watch List this week, and one of 23 players from the SEC to earn preseason recognition. The Bednarik Award is given annually to the best defensive player in college football, with former Colorado iron man Travis Hunter winning the award last season. Faulk has appeared in every game of his two-year Auburn career, but made a name for himself last season. The junior from Highland Home logged 45 tackles with seven sacks and a fumble recovery last season, and has recorded 80 total tackles in his career. Faulk is Auburn's top returning defender according to Pro Football Focus data after building an 83.8 overall defensive grade, trailing only fellow pass rusher Jalen McLeod for the top spot. He created a team-leading 45 tackles and 32 quarterback hurries last season, and missed just four tackles in 591 total snaps. Faulk is also considered one of the top draft prospects ahead of next year's NFL draft. According to NFL draft buzz, Faulk is the No. 2 EDGE prospect and the No. 7 overall prospect. Due to his high ratings, he is expected to be a top-10 pick in next year's draft. The Bednarik Award will announce its semifinalists on Nov. 11, and the winner will be crowned on Dec. 11 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. One Oregon Duck named to ESPN preseason All-American team
ESPN released it's annual preseason college football All-American team on Monday, compiled with first- and second-teams. Just one Oregon Ducks player was included on the list: running back Makai Hughes, who joins the program after two seasons with the Tulane Green Wave. He was named a second-team running back alongside Penn State Nittany Lions' Kaytron Allen. Penn State's Nicholas Singleton and Notre Dame Fighting Irish's Jeremiyah Love occupy the first-team spots at the running back position. It's a nice honor for Hughes, who figures to be Oregon's top back in 2025 after compiling 2,779 rushing yard and 22 rush touchdowns in two seasons at Tulane. He's also a factor in the pass game, catching 30 passes for 243 yards and a pair of scores with the Green Wave. Cases could've been made for several other Ducks to be on the list: EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei, linebacker Bryce Boettcher and safety Dillon Thieneman. There could also be a conversation about wide receiver Dakorien Moore, who's considered to be one of the top true freshman in the country. However, none made the list, with Hughes being the lone Duck on ESPN's list. Traeshon Holden 'moving up the depth chart' with Dallas Cowboys
Former Oregon Ducks wide receiver Traeshon Holden is impressing with the Dallas Cowboys in training camp and during the first preseason game, earning high praise from his head coach. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer had this to say about Holden, who signed with Dallas as an unrestricted free agent after going undrafted in 2025: "He shows up every day," he said. "Literally every day there's been one or two big plays. And when you do that, you get noticed … you get more opportunities." He finished with the biggest statement of all, saying "You'll see him moving up the depth chart." Holden caught two passes for a team-high 42 yards in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams. That included a 35-yard reception on a vertical route from quarterback Joe Milton III. Milton, noticing the defense in Cover 2, layered a pass down the sideline to Holden, who caught it on the run before being tackled. After beginning his career with the Alabama Crimson Tide for two seasons, Holden transferred to Oregon for the final two seasons of his college tenure. In 26 games for the Ducks, Holden caught 83 passes for 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was the team's second-leading receiver in 2024. He finished his career with a monster seven-reception, 116-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Rose Bowl despite Oregon's 41-21 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Now carrying over that momentum to the pros, Holden, straight from his head coaches words, is moving up the depth chart in Dallas. If he continues to excel, he'll find himself in position to be on the Cowboys' final roster -- a major feat for an undrafted prospect.
