Patriots 'Would Be Freaking Silly' to Leave UDFA Efton Chism Off 53-Man Roster

Patriots 'Would Be Freaking Silly' to Leave UDFA Efton Chism Off 53-Man Roster originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The hype around the New England Patriots' changes this offseason has been palpable, and one undrafted rookie is a big part of that excitement. Efton Chism III, a 23-year-old out of Eastern Washington, signed with the Patriots this offseason. Advertisement Chism has been the talk of the offseason in Foxborough, known for his sure hands and talent as a route runner. His former head coach at Monroe High School, Michael Bumpus, spoke to WEEI 93.7 FM's Meghan Ottolini about Chism. Chism grew up in a small town outside of Seattle, Washington, called Monroe. That is where Bumpus, who played for the Seattle Seahawks for one season, began training Chism in the sixth grade. He knows the young wideout better than anyone else. 'The Patriots would be freaking silly not to put this kid on the 53-man [roster]," Bumpus said. New England Patriots wide receiver Efton Chism III (86) reacts to beating wide receiver Javon Baker (6) in a drill during minicamp at Gillette Canha-Imagn Images So why was Chism an undrafted free agent? Well, he quite literally did not "measure up" to what teams were looking for. Advertisement Chism ran a 4.71s 40-yard dash and measured at just 5'10", 195lbs at the NFL combine. But like Bumpus, NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein also saw something in the wideout while scouting him before the NFL Draft. "The real eye-opener is Chism's blend of play strength and competitiveness. He can make the first tackler miss and will do whatever it takes to pick up yardage," Zierlein said. The biggest obstacles in the way of Chism's road to the 53-man roster are recent draftees like Kyle Williams, Demario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Javon Baker. Add in free agent signings like Stefon Diggs, Kendrick Bourne, and Mack Hollins, and the outlook is even tougher for Chism. Advertisement That list totals seven wide receivers potentially ahead of Chism, but there is a shot he could knock off one or two of those guys. The wideout will likely have to prove himself during training camp and preseason, possibly on special teams, to make the 53-man roster. Alabama has four players in CBS Sports' top 50 NFL Draft prospects to watch in 2025

Kadyn Proctor is Alabama's highest-ranked player in CBS Sports' list of 2026 NFL Draft players to watch this season. Alabama football has some NFL draft analysts buzzing ahead of the 2025 season. Small wonder. The Crimson Tide have gone 17 years since a player wasn't selected in the first round of the draft. That was all the way back in 2008 after Nick Saban's first season when the talent simply hadn't arrived in Tuscaloosa but was more than on its way with Saban's banner '08 class. Exactly who the first Alabama player chosen at next year's draft, to be held in Pittsburgh, will be is probably a matter of debate and hinges on who steps up the most in 2025. Two players to keep an eye on are offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor and defensive lineman LT Overton. Proctor and Overton are two of four Alabama players that made CBS Sports' top 50 draft prospects to watch ahead of the 2025 college football season. Proctor has been a two-year starter at left tackle and enters the season as a rising junior among the draft boards. He was ranked the No. 3 overall player in CBS Sports' list on Friday, behind Texas quarterback Arch Manning at No. 1 and former Crimson Tide safety Caleb Downs of Ohio State. Overton will return for his senior season and second with the Crimson Tide after transferring to Alabama from Texas A&M after the 2023 season. In 12 games last season, the 6-foot-5, 283-pound tackle made a career-high 42 tackles (17 solo) and recorded two sacks and a forced fumble. Overton, named to the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, was ranked the No. 13 overall play to watch by CBS Sports. Further down the list, fifth-year senior linebacker and fellow Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List member Deontae Lawson was ranked at No. 35 overall, with offensive lineman Parker Brailsford No. 49. Alabama will open the 2025 season against the Florida State Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Aug. 30. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC. WATCH: Ohio State football players claim 'June Olympics' title with half-court shot

𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬 Finale, Half court shots 🏀The Players take down the staff to win the 2025 June Olympics in stylish fashion to end it 🏆 If you've been paying attention to the summer offseason workouts for the Ohio State football team, or reading our stuff here, then you know the team has been going through a little friendly competition called the "June Olympics." It's a competition between the players and staff to see who can bring home the most wins in various competitions with a champion being crowned at the end. We weren't too sure when the end of the "feats of athletic endeavors" between the old guys and the young pups were going to be over, or even what events would be a part of all the hoopla, but we were informed today that the last competition took place by way of half-court shots. Going into the last event, things were all knotted up at 5 to 5, just like you'd want it, so the winner of the long bombs from half-court would get the bragging rights. And, unfortunately for those of us who are competing with Father Time ourselves, the younger players won the half-court shooting competition and took the title of the "June Olympics" with a final 6 to 5 score. You can check out the highlights below. By the looks of it, it took just one shot to win it after several airballs and misfires. Watch as the shot goes through the bottom of the net for the players to claim supremacy. As if the youth in the building didn't have enough talking to do, now the elder statesmen in the program will have to live with the loss until next summer when we see if the "June Olympics" make another appearance.
