Ringgit rises against greenback, major currencies at close
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended firmer today, supported by easing geopolitical tensions and weaker United States (US) economic data that continued to pressure the greenback.
At 6pm, the local rose to 4.2335/2405 versus the greenback from Tuesday's close of 4.2410/2465.
SPI Asset Management managing partner Stephen Innes said that the sustained ceasefire between Israel and Iran has dampened safe-haven demand for the US dollar.
"In addition, the US consumer confidence index deteriorated by 5.4 points in June, falling to 93.0 from 98.4 in May," he told Bernama.
Innes said that Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell's recent cautious remarks, interpreted as keeping the door open to a possible rate cut, had pushed US treasury yields lower, providing some relief to Asian currencies.
"Although trading remained subdued, the ringgit held on to modest gains at the close," he added.
At the closing, the ringgit traded higher against a basket of major currencies.
It appreciated against the Japanese yen at 2.9070/9120 from 2.9256/9296, escalated versus the British pound to 5.7631/7726 from 5.7707/7782, and improved against the euro to 4.9113/9194 from 4.9225/9289 yesterday.
The local note traded mixed against its Asean counterparts.
It advanced vis-a-vis the Singapore dollar to 3.3061/3121 from 3.3130/3178, and appreciated against the Thai baht to 12.9584/9858 from 12.9793/13.0021 at Tuesday's close.
Meanwhile, it eased against the Indonesian rupiah to 259.7/260.2 from 259.3/259.7, and slipped against the Philippine peso to 7.46/7.48 from 7.41/7.44, previously.

Another ministry recognised for its achievement is the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), where reforms were driven through the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), which successfully reduced the approval time for Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Plan Certifications from 28 days to just three. He added that JBPM also expedited the approval process for non-system-based technical plan certifications, reducing it from 30 days to just seven. 'This was achieved through streamlined procedures and the strengthening of the e-Premis system and development of a central data repository, resulting in annual regulatory cost savings of RM1.776 million,' he said. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) successfully reduced barriers to financing in the aerospace sector, generating RM17 million in regulatory savings for 50 small and medium enterprises by boosting production capacity by up to 30 percent. 'Gross profit margins increased by over 20 percent through automation and certification, further strengthening the supply chain and creating more high-skilled jobs. Reforms are being intensified and improvements accelerated,' he said.

Poor Communication Blamed For KDEBWM's Record Of Highest Unpaid Summonses
GENERAL SHAH ALAM, June 25 (Bernama) -- Poor communication in the delivery of summons notifications by subcontractors has been identified as one of the factors that caused KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) to record the highest number of unpaid summonses. KDEBWM, in a statement, said most of its fleet is operated by legally appointed subcontractors. Under the contracts, the subcontractors are responsible for any summonses issued to their respective vehicles or drivers. 'According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) procedures, if a summons is not settled within three months, a notice will be sent to the registered owner, in this case KDEBWM, with an additional two months given for resolution. 'Upon receiving the official notification, KDEBWM promptly took action by conducting internal checks and gradually resolving the summonses. To date, 13,000 summonses have successfully been settled,' the statement read. KDEBWM stated that as a solid waste and cleansing management company, it operates more than 1,500 vehicles, including compactor trucks and Roll-On/Roll-Off (RoRo) lorries across Selangor, working around the clock to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and service. As a subsidiary of the Selangor government, KDEBWM explained that given its large scale of operations, statistics on unpaid summonses must be viewed holistically. 'For example, two summonses per truck per day could amount to nearly 3,000 summonses in a month, and more than 9,000 summonses in three months if hundreds of active vehicles are involved every day,' the statement said. KDEBWM in the same statement also expressed its appreciation for JPJ's role and responsibility in ensuring road safety. The company reiterated its full commitment to strengthening its internal monitoring systems, streamlining communication with subcontractors, and ensuring that all road safety regulations are consistently and ethically adhered to.
