Unity Ministry launches more comprehensive initiative
PASIR MAS: In a bold step toward strengthening racial harmony, the Ministry of National Unity has launched a more comprehensive initiative, the flagship Malaysia MADANI Unity Tour, anchored on the principles of the Rukun Negara.
Speaking at the state-level 2025 Unity Week Celebration (SMP) here today, the ministry's deputy secretary-general, Mohamad Sobri Mat Daud, said that a wide array of ongoing and upcoming programmes will aim to foster a deeper sense of unity across Malaysia's diverse society.
'At the heart of every programme we implement are three key values - Understanding, Respect, and Acceptance.
'Through these values, we hope Malaysians can continue to create beautiful moments of unity and preserve the harmony and well-being of our communities,' he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Sobri said that SMP also serves as a continuous initiative to educate and nurture Malaysian society in the values of acceptance, mutual respect, and civic responsibility, under the theme 'Harmony in Diversity', celebrating the beauty of racial, cultural, and religious plurality.
He said that Kelantan, often recognised for its strong cultural identity, also offers a unique example of how diverse communities - each with their own customs and traditions - can live harmoniously and celebrate one another's heritage.
Prior to this, the Ministry of National Unity announced that Penang has been selected as the host for the national-level SMP, scheduled to take place from July 16 to 20.
The SMP series had so far been held in Melaka, Kedah, with upcoming stops in Pahang (May 9-11), Johor (May 16-18), Perlis (June 14-15), Terengganu (June 19-21), Sabah (June 28-29), Penang (July 16-20), Sarawak (July 25-27), Negeri Sembilan (Aug 2-3), Kuala Lumpur (Aug 8-10), Labuan (Aug 16-17), Selangor (Aug 22-24), Putrajaya (Sept 12-14) and Perak (Sept 26-28).

'A civil suit, such as a defamation case, is a dispute between individuals or private parties and does not involve criminal investigations, corruption, or abuse of power in an official capacity,' he explained when contacted by Suara Keadilan. Meanwhile, Hanani Dhamirah, a member of Angkatan Muda Keadilan Malaysia, rejected the call by Srikandi Muda Bersatu for Anwar Ibrahim to go on leave, calling it baseless and a misuse of legal processes. She argued that it does not warrant taking leave, as civil cases are personal legal disputes, not evidence of wrongdoing or prosecution. Mohamad Shahrul Adnan, Chief of Angkatan Muda Keadilan Klang added that the call is a political distraction, not grounded in legal facts. Shahrul also emphasised that there is no legal basis requiring Anwar to take leave and that he continues to perform his duties with integrity. He further accused PAS of misusing legal issues for political gain and attempting to divert attention from their own failures in state governance and lack of constructive national opposition. Embassy hosts Aidiladha celebration for Malaysians in Bangkok
BANGKOK: The Embassy of Malaysia in Thailand hosted a gathering for Malaysians abroad and local guests on Saturday to mark this year's Hari Raya Aidiladha. Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of Malaysia to Thailand, Bong Yik Jui, said while Aidiladha signified the values of sacrifice, devotion, and unity among Muslims worldwide, it also solemnly reflected to the duty and dedication carried out by the mission, in upholding Malaysia's interests overseas. The embassy also welcomed a visiting delegation from the Royal Military College (RMC), comprising 32 Putera cadets and five officers at the celebration. The delegation, led by its Commandant, Brig Gen Shaiful Azuar Ariffin, is currently in Bangkok for a one-week student exchange programme with Thailand's Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School (AFAPS). Bong noted that the visit offered RMC students a unique opportunity to experience Hari Raya celebration away from their families and friends. 'The celebration served not only as a religious gathering but also as a meaningful occasion to strengthen the bonds among Malaysians in Thailand,' he added.
