BREAKING NEWS Crews tackle huge late-night blaze at industrial estate with warehouse, cranes and vehicles on fire

Daily Mail12-07-2025
Around 150 firefighters are tackling a huge late-night blaze at an industrial estate in London.
A warehouse has caught fire along with a crane and several other vehicles.
A large emergency response including 25 fire engines rushed to Erith at around 10.45pm on Friday.
Three of the London Fire Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders have been deployed to provide a vantage point for assessing the scene and to deliver water from above.
Local residents are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed where possible due to smoke being produced.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: 'The Brigade's Control Officers took the first of 10 calls to the fire and mobilised crews from Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Sidcup and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
'The cause of the fire is not known at this time.'
They added that it is likely to be a 'protracted incident' with crews on scene throughout the night.

Moment iconic 800-year-old hotel is engulfed by flames as roof COLLAPSES in ‘devastating' blow to UK town

THIS is the chilling moment a town watched an iconic 800-year-old hotel burn to the ground. Locals have said that the blaze at the grade-II listed building was a 'devastating' blow for the small town. 4 4 Footage recorded on one resident's mobile phone shows the fire taking hold at the Raven Hotel in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire. The inferno took hold of the hotel on August 10, as locals helplessly watched. Huge plumes of black smoke can be seen billowing out of the hotel from several different points on the building. Meanwhile, some of the onlookers can be seen to be miming the roof collapsing - already anticipating what is going to happen. Six fire crews arrived on the scene to stop the historic site from collapsing and the video shows those teams using powerful jets of water to try and control the fire. However, flames burst through an exposed gap on the left side of the roof - metres away from the iconic Raven Hotel sign. As the wind blows away some of the black smoke, an entire section of the collapsed roof can be seen with red flames peeking through. At the time, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service urged people to stay away while they put out the blaze. A spokesperson for the force said: 'We are currently in attendance in Droitwich at a fire incident involving a derelict hotel on St Andrews Street. 'There are currently 6x fire appliances plus other specialist vehicles in attendance. Huge fire breaks out at world-famous Scots landmark 'We advise to stay clear of the area whilst on going and recommend closing all windows and doors if you live near by.' Sadly, much of the building couldn't be saved and the local MP says this has been 'devastating' news for the town. Nigel Huddleston, MP for Droitwich and Evesham, said: 'An incredibly sad day for Droitwich. It was heartbreaking to see a devastating fire destroy the iconic Raven Hotel in Droitwich this evening. 'So many local residents have fond memories of time spent in this historic building. The emergency services are doing an outstanding job trying to contain the fire and keep people safe. 'It is unclear what - if any parts - of the building can be salvaged. I will provide further updates as soon as information becomes available.' The news comes as over one thousand firefighters were deployed in California as the American state battled with new wildfires. Almost 72,000 acres of land have been devastated by the flames in just four days. The huge blaze has been difficult for firefighters to control, with just 3 per cent of the fire being put out. Meanwhile, planes have been dropping red fire retardant on the flames engulfing Los Padres National Forest. Last year, almost a million acres of land in California were destroyed by fires. 4

I have 3 kids in 1 room so split it with a £9 Ikea buy that's easier than adding a wall, the set-up's divided people

A MUM has revealed how three of her children share one room - and how she makes it work for them. Rebecca, who posts under @rebeccadal9412, shared how she picked up a £9 Ikea buy to separate the room into a section for her daughter, and then her two sons. 4 4 In a video which has racked up 26,000 likes, she shared: '3 children, 1 bedroom .. no problem.' Rebecca showed how they bought an Ikea single track curtain rail in order to divide up the room. When pulled across, the curtain gives privacy to both sides of the room, so they feel like separate spaces. The mum shared how they chose the curtain as it could be pulled back if needed. She added: 'We didn't want a partition wall as we wanted it to be an open space during the day. 'Moving just isn't an option for us yet we've made this house a home and spent too much money to just up and move to start again, so it was only right we tried to divide the boys bedroom to give Ariella her own space as well. 'Pretty proud of us.' According to the description of the rail on the Ikea website: 'If you've ever struggled with complicated curtain rail systems you'll appreciate this one. 'It's easy to assemble and it's very flexible, so you can hang curtains even in the trickiest spaces.' Many people praised the idea, with one saying: 'This makes me so happy to see! 'We've just done the same for our 7year old boy, we're due a baby girl any day now and so many people keep pushing us to move but we can't afford to buy a new house just yet!!' Another added: 'You know what this is a great idea, 'a bigger house' doesn't happen over night, takes time and money. 'Same people suggesting that would also slam you if u got a council house because you're over crowded, u can't win! good job!' 4 However, others weren't so sure about the idea. One shared: 'if your planning on staying in that house just know for safeguarding issues it's recommended siblings of opposite genders don't sleep in the same room for age 10…' A second added: 'I will never make my kids share.' According to the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children): 'Once your child is sleeping through the night comfortably it might work best for your family if they share a room with a sibling. 'The age siblings can happily share a bedroom will be different for every family and depend on your children's needs and personalities. 'As children grow up, they might want more privacy and need their own space. 'It's recommended that children over the age of 10 should have their own bedrooms – even if they're siblings or step-siblings. 'We know this isn't always possible. If your children share, try to have regular conversations with them about how they're feeling and allow for them to have private time.' Are you allowed to convert a garage into a bedroom? USING average house price figures from Zoopla, Admiral Loans crunched the numbers and worked out that each square foot of living space is worth £350 on average. Typically, the size of a small single garage in the UK is 128 square feet making the additional space worth £45,000. A standard conversion costs between £4,995 and £7,500 depending on what work you have done, according to which will of course eat into your profits. If the garage is attached to your home you won't even need to pay for planning permission, which currently costs £206. The work falls under "permitted development rules", which allows you to make certain changes to your home as long as it's within limits. This is because you're not really altering the outside dimensions of the building. But you will need to apply to the local authority if your garage is separate to your house, you live in a flat or maisonette or in a listed building. It's worth checking before starting any work that there aren't any planning conditions attached to your property - you can do this by writing to the local authority. If you plough on with building work that actually required permission, you may be ordered to take it down.
