'Israel' conducts raid on cemetery, says Gaza's Awqaf Ministry

Roya News2 days ago
The Ministry of Religious Endowments (Awqaf) in Gaza has condemned what it described as a "horrific crime" committed by 'Israeli' forces at dawn on Thursday, after they stormed the Turkish Cemetery in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, southern Gaza, using tanks and bulldozers.
In a statement, the ministry said 'Israeli' forces dug up graves, desecrated the site, and stole the remains of the dead, calling it a barbaric and criminal act that violates all religious, humanitarian, and international norms.
The ministry stated that the assault on the cemetery represents a blatant attack on the sanctity of burial grounds and a disregard for human dignity even after death, reflecting what it called a "deep moral and humanitarian void in Israel's actions."
The raid reportedly coincided with the demolition of nearby displacement camps, displacing hundreds of Palestinian families who had sought refuge there from the ongoing war.
'This crime only adds to the suffering of civilians in Gaza,' the statement read, noting that Palestinians in the Strip have endured catastrophic humanitarian conditions amid a war that has lasted over 21 months.
The ministry further revealed that around 40 of Gaza's 60 cemeteries have been damaged or destroyed during the ongoing 'Israeli' military campaign.
The statement concluded by urging international legal and human rights organizations, including the United Nations, to launch an urgent investigation into the incident. It also called on the international community to assume its humanitarian and moral responsibilities, to act immediately to stop repeated violations against the Palestinian people, and to hold 'Israel' accountable for its crimes, against both the living and the dead, and to protect religious and cultural sites in Palestine.

Abu Obaida marks one year since martyrdom of commander Mohammed al-Deif

Abu Obaida, the military spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, commemorated the first anniversary of the passing of the great martyr and leader Mohammed al-Deif. He highlighted al-Deif's pivotal role in leading the Aqsa flood operation, which inflicted the harshest blow in the history of 'the Zionist enemy', permanently shattering 'Israeli' deterrence. Abu Obaida said that al-Deif's leadership united the energies of the Arab and Islamic nation, redirecting their focus towards Palestine and restoring the Palestinian cause to the forefront once again. He described decades of jihad, pursuit, sacrifice, leadership, and creativity culminating in al-Deif's martyrdom, joining the ranks of the great martyrs of the Palestinian people and its leaders. Abu Obaida emphasized how the blood of al-Deif and his fellow commanders mingled with the blood of Palestinians and the wider Ummah, who sacrificed everything for Al-Aqsa and Palestine. The spokesman also praised al-Deif for reviving the legacy of early Islamic companions and warriors such as Ali, Khalid, Al-Qa'qa', and Al-Muthanna. He said al-Deif remained an inspiration for generations who never saw his image but took pride in the victories of his brigades, and that he will continue to be a beacon for freedom fighters worldwide.

Abbas says Hamas won't govern Gaza once ceasefire begins

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday that Hamas will not be allowed to govern the Gaza Strip in the post-war period, stressing that the group must disarm and commit to the political program of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). 'Hamas must hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority and engage in political work under a unified legal system, one authority, one law, and one legitimate weapon,' Abbas said during a meeting with former British Prime Minister and ex-Quartet envoy Tony Blair in Amman, Jordan. The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, with Abbas reiterating the need for an immediate halt to hostilities, the release of all captives and detainees, and the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave. President Abbas emphasized that the only viable solution is a full 'Israeli' withdrawal from Gaza and the empowerment of the Palestinian state to assume full responsibilities in the territory with strong Arab and international support. He also called for an end to all unilateral 'Israeli' actions, including settlement expansion, annexation attempts, and repeated assaults on Islamic and Christian holy sites. Abbas renewed his call for a serious political process based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, advocating for the convening of an international peace conference in New York to implement the two-state solution. At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue coordination and engagement with relevant parties to end the war and promote regional peace and stability.

Hamas, Islamic Jihad demand full 'Israeli' withdrawal in any Gaza ceasefire deal

Hamas and Islamic Jihad said Sunday that any negotiations to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip must result in a complete end to the war, the full withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces, the reopening of border crossings, and the start of reconstruction efforts. In a joint statement, Hamas said a delegation led by Mohamed Darwish, head of the movement's leadership council, met with Islamic Jihad Secretary-General Ziyad al-Nakhalah to discuss the latest 'Israeli' responses to proposals put forward by mediators and how to respond to them. The statement reaffirmed the two factions' unified position that any agreement must end the ongoing war and address the humanitarian and political consequences of 'Israel's' continued assault on the enclave. Earlier Sunday, 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to criticism over the captives deal negotiations. In comments to Israeli media, Netanyahu denied claims that his government rejected a proposed agreement, saying, 'They [the media] always echo Hamas propaganda, and they are always wrong. We accepted the deal—the one from US envoy Steve Witkoff, and then the revised version proposed by the mediators. We accepted it. Hamas rejected it.' Netanyahu claimed Hamas's goal is to stay in Gaza and wait for 'Israeli' forces to withdraw so it can rearm and launch further attacks. 'I will not accept this,' he said. 'I'm doing everything I can to bring our hostages home. I meet with their families, I know their pain and suffering, and I'm determined to bring them back and eliminate Hamas.'
