Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties to be Himachal's first to perform robotic surgery
The Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS) at Chamiyana in Shimla is set to become the first medical institute in Himachal Pradesh to introduce surgeries using cutting-edge robotic technology. A state-of-the-art surgical robot — procured at a cost of Rs 28 crore on the lines of AIIMS Delhi — has already arrived at the institute. The installation process is expected to be completed by July, following which robotic-assisted surgeries will commence.
Dr Brij Lal, principal, AIMSS Chamiyana, said that robotic surgery will offer significant benefits to both patients and doctors. 'Robotic procedures require only small incisions, resulting in minimal blood loss, reduced need for transfusions, and faster recovery for patients. They experience less pain and are discharged sooner,' he said.
Doctors too will gain from the technology, as robotic systems enhance surgical precision and control. 'Surgeons experience less fatigue, even during prolonged operations, enabling them to perform more procedures efficiently. The technology provides a clear, magnified 3D view of narrow and complex areas within the body, significantly reducing the risk of errors,' Lal added.
Meanwhile, a government spokesperson said in a bid to further strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is set to visit Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda. As part of the visit, a detailed presentation will be made on the ongoing and proposed improvements in medical services and infrastructure at the institute. 'The CM will also engage in an interactive session with the faculty members to gather feedback and suggestions, focusing on enhancing healthcare delivery at this key medical institution,' the spokesperson added.

Medical equipment to STPs: Govt nod to s 127cr projects in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Key infrastructure projects, including procurement of essential equipment for the upcoming Sheetla Mata Devi Medical College and Hospital in Sector 102A, were approved by the govt on Friday. The upgrade of STPs in Behrampur and Dhanwapur has also got a financial nod. The approvals were granted during a high-powered purchase committee meeting chaired by CM Nayab Singh Saini. The sanctioned Rs 27 crore for the hospital will go towards the key infrastructure such as oxygen generation plants, modular operating theatres, central sterilisation and sterile services units, medical gas pipeline systems, pneumatic tube systems, as well as kitchen and laundry equipment. "With approvals now in place, the tender allotment process will begin shortly," the GMDA official said. The project is being funded by the GMDA, MCG, and Sheetla Mata shrine board. While the construction began in April 2022, the project has repeatedly missed several deadlines. With 72% of the work done, the GMDA is hoping to complete the project by April next year. The 883-bedded hospital will include 114 emergency and trauma beds, 606 general beds, 52 ICU and high-dependency unit beds, 23 NICU beds, 20 private beds, and 68 floating beds. The medical college will initially offer 150 MBBS seats, which will later be expanded to 250. Once operational, the hospital will be managed by the state health department. Among the other infrastructure pushes, the state sanctioned Rs 85 crore for upgrading the 100 MLD Dhanwapur and 120 MLD Behrampur sewage treatment plants (STPs) to tertiary treatment facilities. Currently, only 25% of the capacity at these plants meets tertiary standards. The upgrades aim to reduce the Biological Oxygen Demand in treated water from 30 mg/L to the permissible limit of 10 mg/L. The water will then be suitable for reuse in agriculture, construction, and groundwater recharge.

Foundation stones laid for multiple development projects including road expansion works in Husnabad
Minister for Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar has said that the Husnabad constituency is witnessing comprehensive development with a focus on education, health, road infrastructure and other key sectors under the current Congress government while he was addressing a public meeting in the Husnabad town of Siddipet district on Friday. He along with the Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao and Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy participated in a slew of development programmes held in the constituency earlier in the day. The ministers inaugurated 50-bed Matha Sishu Arogya Kendram built at an estimated cost of Rs 11.50 crore, laid the foundation stone for a 150-bed government hospital building at a cost of Rs 82 crore and four-laning of the Kothapalli-Husnabad main road with an outlay of Rs 77.20 crore in separate programmes held in the town. Mr. Prabhakar said that classes in the newly sanctioned Satavahana University Engineering College in Husnabad will commence from this year. The Gouravelli project works are progressing at a brisk pace, he added, taking a dig at the previous BRS government for allegedly neglecting the Husnabad constituency in its 10-year rule. Mr. Venkat said the road infrastructure in the constituency is poised for major upgradation, 'The four-laning works of Sundaragiri-Kothapalli will be taken up with an outlay of Rs 80 crore soon.' Mr. Raja Narasimha said that they have laid a special focus on strengthening medical and nursing education as well as improving the infrastructure in government hospitals and public health delivery systems. As many as 16 nursing colleges have been set up with an intake of 950 seats under the current Congress government, he said, adding that the bed strength in the Husnabad government hospital is poised to increase to 250.

Minister launches development projects in Kodagu
Madikeri: Minister NS Boseraju, who is in charge of Kodagu district, launched various projects in the district, including a project to build a sub-regional science centre and 3D mini-planetarium in Karnangeri, on Friday. The project is estimated to cost Rs 12 crore and will be built on seven acres. Boseraju, who also holds the science and technology portfolio, reviewed the projects and emphasised the importance of quality construction. He said the state govt has increased grants for the development of the district. He inaugurated the Rs 10 crore taluk administration building, housing the tahsildar's office near Convent Junction in Madikeri. He also inaugurated the Rs 3 crore Madikeri taluk panchayat building near Field Marshal Cariappa Circle, where he announced plans for Praja Soudha construction across 49 taluk centres in the state. He said govt is committed to providing enhanced facilities for the public. The minister addressed various challenges faced by gram panchayats, emphasising the need for diligent work and proper coordination between officials and people's representatives. Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda, Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna, and DC Venkat Raja were present.
