Ex-Brighton goalkeeper in dark over Hong Kong football future
Former Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper, Fynn Talley, said he was still waiting to hear whether Kitchee would hand him a contract extension for next season.

Talley has been one of few shining lights in a bleak season for the club, after he signed from Peterborough United last summer.
The Englishman has defied expectations by claiming a regular starting spot, given most clubs prefer to have their six foreign players in outfield positions.
And Talley, who has kept five clean sheets in 21 appearances, said he would 'love to stay another season'.
The Post has learned that Jay Haddow, the 21-year-old defender, has signed a new two-year contract, although he is on course to receive a Hong Kong passport, and qualify as a local player, before next season.
After Kitchee won a drab match 3-1 against Football Club on Saturday, Talley said: 'We have three more games, then I don't know what's going on, I'm waiting to hear something.

Hong Kong women's footballer calls for government backing as team eyes Asian Cup return
Vicky Chung Pui-ki has called on the government to pump more money into women's football in the city, as Hong Kong ramp up preparations for the start of their AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in late June. Advertisement In tri-series matches over the past week, the city team drew with hosts Bhutan and beat Malaysia in their last scheduled fixtures before they battle the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Cambodia for one spot in the 2026 finals in Australia. Chung said the women's game in Hong Kong had 'grown up' since her international debut in 2017, with the head coach Ricardo Rambo's team boasting players from leagues in England, Taiwan and mainland China. Chung had time with Scottish club Kilmarnock in the 2019-2020 season. Nonetheless, the 27-year-old Kitchee defender, who raised the possibility of following in the footsteps of Chan Yuen-ting as a female head coach in the men's game, lamented the absence of a full-time domestic competition in Hong Kong. 'We have so many talented young girls, but we could have more support from the government to give us the platform to promote women's football, and we could have a professional league in Hong Kong,' Chung said. Kitchee confident of avoiding Manchester United-style decline, closing on new boss
While Manchester United sank farther from competitive relevance this week, Hong Kong's own fallen giants were plotting a speedy return to local supremacy. Unlike United's decade-long drift to the margins, Kitchee's drop-off has been sharp and shocking. When they won the Senior Shield in February 2024, the interim head coach Kim Dong-jin fielded questions about landing a potential quadruple. Ultimately, they did not come close to more silverware, and, certainly in terms of results, this has been a season of regression. Kitchee are a distant fourth in a four-horse title race, and have not reached one cup final. For delivering the club's first season without a trophy since 2009-10, other than the under-22 FA Cup they won on Wednesday, head coach Edgar Cardoso paid with his job. Former Hong Kong boss Gary White is not in contention for the Kitchee job, according to Ken Ng Kin. Photo: HKFA Ken Ng Kin, the Kitchee president, said he was in negotiations with Cardoso's prospective replacement, and hoped to confirm the appointment early next month.

Liverpool rocked by Brighton's late fightback
Liverpool rocked by Brighton's late fightback Jack Hinshelwood scored in the 85th minute to seal the comeback victory for Brighton. Photo: AFP Brighton's Jack Hinshelwood sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory against Liverpool to leave the Premier League champions without a win since clinching the title. Arne Slot's side took the lead through Harvey Elliott's early opener before Yasin Ayari equalised at the Amex Stadium. Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool's advantage just before the interval, but Brighton staged a late fightback as Kaoru Mitoma levelled before Hinshelwood came off the bench to net with his first touch. Liverpool have taken just one point from their three matches following the title-clinching rout of Tottenham on April 27. The Reds have lost at Brighton and Chelsea and squandered a two-goal lead in a draw with Arsenal since their record-equalling 20th English crown was confirmed They can now look forward to receiving the Premier League trophy in Sunday's season finale against FA cup winners Crystal Palace at Anfield before an open-top bus parade through the city 24 hours later. Slot had admitted that motivating the champions for the final two matches of the season was a tricky task and his fears were confirmed by this sloppy display. Slot's players had a celebratory trip to Dubai this week and only returned to training on Friday, while the Reds boss was seen partying in Ibiza for several days, as they soaked in a title victory secured in April. "Did you see me on social media!" Slot said with a laugh in reply to a question about how focused he had been on the Brighton game. After being given a guard of honour by Brighton's players before kick-off, Liverpool initially showed signs of rebuking the doubters who claimed their minds were elswhere. Ahead of his widely-expected move to Real Madrid when his contract expires in the close-season, Trent Alexander-Arnold was left on the bench for a second successive game. Conor Bradley featured at right-back instead and showed why he is a contender to replace Alexander-Arnold with his role in Liverpool's ninth minute opener. When Mohamed Salah rolled a pass to Bradley, he shifted gears with a dynamic burst into the Brighton area before clipping a precise pass towards Elliott, who slotted home from close-range. The goal meant Liverpool had scored in every away game of a league season for the first time in their history. Bradley's attacking runs had more than a touch of Alexander-Arnold about them, but his finishing wasn't up to scratch when he took Federico Chiesa's pass and fired wide from 10 yards. Ayari grabbed Brighton's eye-catching equaliser in the 32nd minute. The Sweden midfielder eluded Bradley and drilled a fine low finish past Alisson Becker from the edge of the area after Brajan Gruda's lofted pass prised open the Liverpool defence. Liverpool regained the lead on the stroke of half-time when Szoboszlai caught out Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen with a swerving strike from wide on the right flank that whistled into the top corner. Szoboszlai's bemused grin as he celebrated suggested the midfielder's effort might have been a miscued cross rather than a shot. Brighton went close twice at the start of the second half as Alisson clawed away Danny Welbeck's free-kick and kept out Gruda's 20-yard blast. Salah was captaining Liverpool for the first time in the Premier League to mark his 300th appearance in the competition. But the Egypt forward missed an open goal when he flicked Cody Gakpo's cross wide from five yards. It was a costly mistake from Salah as Brighton equalised in the 69th minute. Welbeck's shot was pushed out by Alisson and Japan winger Mitoma hammered in the rebound. Hinshelwood completed Brighton's thrilling comeback in the 85th minute, the substitute slotting home from Matt O'Riley's cross. (AFP)
