'People will ask if Shubman Gill trusts his attack': Ex-England captain on India's declaration delay
NEW DELHI: Former England captain
Nasser Hussain
believes the pressure is firmly on India to push for a win on Day 5 of the second Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test at Edgbaston. With rain delaying the start of play and India needing seven more wickets to level the series, all eyes are on whether
Shubman Gill
's side can seal the deal.
India had reduced England to 72/3 by stumps on Day 4 after setting a mammoth 608-run target, but the rain on the final day has complicated their task.

"There is a lot of pressure on India. You must think a lot of England to set them 600," Hussain said on Sky Sports' broadcast.
"If they get a draw, people will ask why they batted on so long, people will ask whether Gill trusts his attack. I think he does trust his attack but today will show whether they can get those seven wickets or not."
Hussain also highlighted that England, once they resume their innings post rain delay, must continue to play with intent.
"I think the focus is on (picking) the seven wickets rather than the target but also on how England play. They have very rarely been in this situation and openly stated they don't play for draws."

Who do you think is under more pressure in the final day of the Test?
India
England
"I think they need positive intent and not to go into their shell. You don't want them just blocking but you don't want recklessness either.
It's about winning the series, not just a one-off Test."
Meanwhile, former England cricketer
Mark Butcher
suggested that if rain helps England secure a draw, it should be viewed as a moral victory for Ben Stokes' team.
"I don't think it takes too much of a shift of attitude for England (to contemplate the draw). You could look upon escaping from this game as a win in itself."
India Dominate Day 4! Siraj & Akash Deep Rattle England
"England talk about being in the entertainment business — well, we can all remember entertaining draws, people on the edges of their seats with a wicket needed and three overs left, or whatever it might be. Are the fans going to be more entertained by you falling over in a heap or by you clinging on by your fingernails at the back end of the day?"
"I think we know the answer to that. And I think it would be a massive feather in the cap of this team if they were able to do it. I also think that all the motivation England need was India not declaring until late last night. They are giving you a gilt-edged chance to escape from here without losing a match that they really and truly should have been buried in. Use that to your advantage," he concluded.

Wimbledon 2025, Day 7: Taylor Fritz advances to quarterfinals; Aryna Sabalenka, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova also through
Taylor Fritz (AP Photo) Taylor Fritz moved into the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the third time in four years on Sunday, though not in the fashion he would have preferred. The No. 5 seed advanced after Australian Jordan Thompson was forced to retire due to injury, trailing 6-1, 3-0 after just 41 minutes of play. Thompson, who entered the match carrying back and leg issues, took a medical timeout early in the second set but was unable to continue after a brief attempt to play through the pain. 'Just played a lot of tennis on a body that shouldn't have been, and it just took its toll,' the unseeded Australian said after the match. Fritz, who had battled through multiple five-setters earlier in the tournament, acknowledged the unfortunate circumstances: 'It's obviously not the way I want to go through. It's just sad... Respect to him for coming out. His body's not right.' The American will next face No. 17 seed Karen Khachanov, who defeated Poland's Kamil Majchrzak 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. While Khachanov holds a 2-0 record over Fritz, their last meeting was back in 2020. 'We practice all the time, so we're pretty familiar with each other's games,' Fritz said. 'My sister has cancer': Akash Deep's heartbreaking revelation; dedicates historic Edgbaston win to her
Akash Deep (BCCI Photo) NEW DELHI: Akash Deep delivered a stunning performance with the ball to play a pivotal role in India's landmark victory over England in the second Test at Edgbaston. Showcasing his skill with seam movement, the pacer claimed 10 wickets in the match, helping India register their first-ever Test win at the iconic Birmingham venue. He picked up four wickets in the first innings and followed it up with a six-wicket haul in the second, finishing with match figures of 10/187. This effort not only set a new benchmark for the best bowling figures by an Indian in a Test in England — surpassing Chetan Sharma 's 10/188 from 1986 — but also made Akash only the second Indian pacer to achieve a 10-wicket match haul in the country. The fast bowler revealed that his elder sister has been battling cancer for the past two months and dedicated his match-winning performance to her. "I have not told this to anyone. My elder sister has been suffering from cancer for the last two months. She is now stable, and she is fine. I think she will be the happiest (seeing my performance). I want to dedicate this match to her. I wanted to see a smile on her face," Akash said after the game. He added an emotional message for her: "This is for you. Whenever I held the ball in my hand, your face was in my mind. I want to see happiness in your face. We are all with you." WATCH: India's 336-run triumph also ended a long wait for a win at Edgbaston, where they had previously played eight Tests — losing seven and drawing one. Did Shubman Gill put BCCI in trouble after sporting Nike vest during IND vs ENG 2nd Test? What's controversy all about?
Shubman Gill might be basking in glory after leading India to their first-ever Test win at Edgbaston in Birmingham, but what drew a lot of attention was the clothing the captain was wearing at the time of declaration on the fourth day of the second game against England. With a lead of more than 600 runs, India decided to declare their second innings at 427/6 in the 83rd over. Gill, leading India for the first time in this series, came out in his black Nike vest to call back Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja back, raising eyebrows The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has signed a five-year deal with Adidas in 2023, thus gaining the exclusive sponsorship rights for jerseys, kits and other merchandise for India's men's, women's, and U-19 teams. The image of Gill in Nike clothing quickly went viral in no time, with fans calling it a violation of BCCI's apparel agreement. The Indian captain might not get penalised for wearing a Nike vest as the sponsorship deal between BCCI and Adidas doesn't speak about the innerwear of a player. 'The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) & adidas has today announced a brand-new partnership as the kit sponsor for the BCCI,' a statement on BCCI's website read. 'The contract, which runs through to March 2028, will give adidas exclusive rights for manufacturing kit across all formats of the game. Adidas will be the sole supplier for all match, training & travel wear for the BCCI - including the men's, women's & youth teams,' it said further. Nike is a direct competitor of Adidas. The first time Indian team wore Adidas kit was during the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord's. Notably, Nike was Indian cricket team's kit sponsor from 2006 to 2020.
