The Government of India has announced its commitment to assist those affected by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad which has claimed the lives of all 242 who were on board.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families via a post on X.
He stated, 'The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. I have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those impacted.'

On the afternoon of June 12, 2025, Air India confirmed via a statement on X that flight AI171, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident shortly after take-off.
"The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 13:38 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members aboard the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Among those on board, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British nationals, one was a Canadian national, and seven were Portuguese nationals," said the airline.
Air India revealed that it has established a dedicated passenger hotline at 1800 5691 444 to provide further information and is fully cooperating with authorities investigating the incident.

Airlines halt many Middle East flights after Israel hits Iran
PARIS - Global airlines on Friday cancelled flights to Tel Aviv, Tehran and other Middle East destinations, or rerouted planes, as airspaces shut following Israeli strikes on Iran. Israel, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Syria closed their airspaces after Israel hit military and nuclear facilities in Iran. Israel said Tehran launched drones in retaliation. Air India's New Delhi-Vienna and Mumbai-London flights were about to enter Iranian airspace when Israel launched its attack, forcing the planes to turn back to their origin, according to aircraft tracker Flight Aware. Its London-New Delhi flight had just entered Iranian airspace and was rerouted over Iraq before arriving in India one hour late, according to Flight Aware. Air India diverted or called back a total of 16 flights between India and London and cities in Canada and the United States "due to the emerging situation in Iran". Emirates, the Middle East's largest airline, cancelled flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran after Israel launched the strikes.
