Eovaldi solid over seven innings, Rangers beat Blue Jays 10-4 to avoid series sweep
Former Blue Jays infielder Marcus Semien and Wyatt Langford smacked two-run homers in the second and sixth innings, respectively, to help the Rangers (62-63) end a four-game slide.
Eovaldi (11-3) allowed five hits, striking out six with no walks in his 97-pitch performance.
The Rangers enjoyed a 2-0 lead when Kirk hit his homer in the second inning and were ahead 8-1 when Guerrero belted his 439-foot monster to left field for his 21st with two out in the sixth inning.
Jose Berrios (9-5) was not sharp as his four-game win streak came to an end, as did the Blue Jays' (73-52) three-game run before 42,549 at Rogers Centre.
He lasted only 4 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits, including the two homers. He struck out two Rangers.
The Rangers enjoyed a 5-1 advantage after Jake Burger's single scored Semien, and a two-out single from catcher Jonah Heim scored two more. All three runs came with two out in the fourth.
George Springer belted a two-run homer in the eighth inning off reliever Hoby Milner in Springer's second game back after missing 15 outings with a concussion.
Evan Carter answered with a two-run blast in the ninth.

'An easy team to get behind': One-on-one with Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker
In the decade since the Blue Jays previously generated so much enthusiasm from their own fan base and around Major League Baseball, Pete Walker has seen some things. Article content The team's long-time pitching coach was a part of those 2015 and 2016 Jays teams that ended a long drought of playoff absences. Article content Article content He has seen the rise of the Vlad Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette era, the flattening out of a team after a couple seasons of that excitement and in the now, an invigorating renaissance. Article content Article content And yes, in the current version that is having the effect of reliving some of those feelings from the summer of 2015, the team's longest-serving coach sees some parallels. Article content 'There's absolutely no doubt,' said Walker, relaxed and reflective during our lengthy recent interview in the home dugout at the Rogers Centre. 'For me, I've experienced both and it feels the same. Article content 'I think these guys are having fun. You can tell. They're excited for each other. It's an easy team to get behind, it really is, and the fans are showing it by filling this place every night.' Article content Walker recognizes the personalities are of a different breed from 2015 to 2025. The previous version was an alpha outfit run by the likes of Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson. Article content The current Jays roster has star power in Guerrero Jr. and others, but it is the supporting cast that has elbowed its way into prominence. And it is that group that is helping drive the wagon that now has played in front of a sold out Rogers Centre for 16 consecutive home games. Article content Article content 'It's the unsung heroes on this team that stand out,' Walker said. 'The glue between the cracks type of guys who you don't figure to be impactful but have really picked up their game when they're called upon. Fans relate to that.' Article content Walker and manager John Schneider have a solid synergy, one made even more exhilarating when success has followed so significantly. The 73-52 record through 125 games is actually better than the 70-55 mark from 2015, a season that ended with 93 wins and a division title. Article content There are still plenty of twists and turns remaining for a group that has already had some highs and lows, but overall Walker likes the potential of his pitching staff finishing strong. Article content 'There are a lot of things you are going to figure out through the course of the season, but we have a group that's resilient, that seems to be getting stronger at this time of year, which is critical,' said Walker, now in his 13th season as Jays pitching coach. Royals look to stay hot at home in series opener vs. Rangers

Especially as they're about to begin a key four-game series at Kansas City on Monday night. The Royals are four games behind the Yankees for the AL's final wild-card spot, while the Rangers reside 5 1/2 games in back of New York. Kansas City recorded a 6-2 victory at home on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox. The Royals have won 13 of their last 18 games at Kauffman Stadium. Jonathan India hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to help Kansas City win on Sunday. 'All we can do is keep fighting,' he told FanDuel Sports Network. 'That's all we're trying to do out here, and collect wins.' Texas, meanwhile, had lost 12 of 18 games before snapping a four-game skid with a 10-4 victory at Toronto on Sunday. 'Every game is the most important game of the season,' star Marcus Semien told the Rangers Sports Network. 'That's the way we have to look at it. 'Kansas City is a team that is playing good baseball. ... We need to go out and do what we did (Sunday). Put up a lot of runs and have fun while we're doing it.' Texas was outscored 16-5 during a three-game home series sweep by Kansas City in June. However, the Rangers should feel confident with Jack Leiter (7-6, 3.94 ERA) slated to start the series opener. The right-hander is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA in his last five starts, even though he has failed to make it into the sixth inning in his last three -- all Texas losses. Leiter allowed a solo homer, three other hits and two walks over five innings in a 3-2 defeat to Arizona on Tuesday. The long ball did in Leiter in his lone career start against the Royals on June 17. Of the six runs in 5 2/3 innings he yielded during a 6-1 loss, four came on three home runs. Salvador Perez hit a pair of homers, and Bobby Witt Jr. went deep once. 'When you see the slug against (Leiter), it's against mistakes,' Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. Witt, Perez and Maikel Garcia went a combined 7-for-9 with six RBIs vs. Leiter in that contest. Witt is batting .382 in the last nine home games. Scheduled Monday starter Michael Wacha (7-9, 3.35 ERA) will to continue his stellar run for the Royals, who have won his last four starts. The veteran right-hander is 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his last six outings. On Tuesday against Washington, Wacha allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings in Kansas City's 8-5 victory. Wacha has given up a run in each of his last two starts against the Rangers. Most recently on June 19, he allowed one run on two hits over six innings in the Royals' 4-1 win. Overall, he is 1-3 with a 3.96 ERA in five career starts vs. Texas. Semien, who is batting .203 since July 31, went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer on Sunday. He's 3-for-9 over the last two seasons against Wacha. The Rangers' Joc Pederson has two career home runs against Wacha.
