With effortless torque and longer stints between fills, these models still make a lot of sense, and some of the best diesel execs from just a few years ago can be had for below £15,000 on the used car market. The BMW 5 Series is the quintessential big saloon. For well honed dynamics, plenty of space and strong efficiency, it's tough to beat, but the Audi A6 might have the tools to do so. Its neat, understated styling is arguably slicker than the BMW's, and the interior is first rate. Plus, while it's not so agile, it is refined and economical.
The Jaguar XF might be a left-field choice, but the Mk2's chassis flows very well over tricky surfaces, feeling plush without sacrificing sharp handling. It looks smart, too, and the roomy cabin has a few classy design touches of its own.

The 4th generation Audi A6 is a car which is ageing like fine wine. It's aged better than the BMW, although the A6 doesn't quite live up to those sharp looks on the road; the chassis leans toward security rather than fun.
Despite this, the A6 still tends to thump over large imperfections – especially S line models with their sportier suspension – so it's not as comfortable as we'd like. The S Tronic auto is smooth, however, and the 2.0 TDI diesel is very refined, with over 60mpg possible, says Audi. Without doubt, the interior is the highlight of the A6 package. This Audi is beautifully built inside, with a fine blend of leather, metal trims and high-quality plastics, and from behind the wheel it feels every inch the premium executive express you would expect. Touches such as knurled metal climate control dials and a nifty fold-away sat-nav screen really elevate the cabin's ambience, even though Audi's MMI infotainment set-up isn't quite as slick as BMW's.

Next to the clean-cut Audi, the BMW's rounded edges and rippled surfacing mean it doesn't look as modern. It's a sharper drive than its German rival, though – the 5 Series' rear-wheel-drive chassis is engaging and agile in bends, yet SE spec's smaller wheels also give a supple, comfortable ride. The BMW is a refined cruiser, too, keeping wind and road noise at a minimum.

The 5 Series' cabin has aged more gracefully than its exterior, with a rather attractive dashboard design, high-quality switchgear and a slick infotainment system. BMW's iDrive software is among the easiest set-ups to use from this period, with Bluetooth as standard and optional tech that includes a bigger infotainment display and a surround-view parking camera. Like its rivals, the 5 Series offers plenty of scope to adjust the driving position, allowing for a sporty posture behind the wheel if you want it. The Jaguar XF Mk2 is one of the classier options in the segment. It's not an overly adventurous design, but the Jag has a flair that its German rivals lack, and it's equally impressive on the move. The XF is alert and expertly set up, feeling tied down over undulations and smooth over bumps.
There's a poise here that not even the BMW 5 Series can match, although the XF's motorway refinement isn't the best in its class. The 2.0-litre diesel motor isn't as punchy as its rivals in 161bhp guise, either, but it has enough poke for most situations. A 2018 Jaguar XF with 36,000 miles on the clock comes in at just under £15,000.
On the face of it, the Jaguar XF's interior is just as sophisticated as its exterior in terms of design and build quality – there are aluminium details, plus soft leather and wood trim that swoops around the base of the windscreen, but the quality isn't entirely up to the standards of its rivals here. Shiny, cheap-feeling piano black plastic trim is one aspect that lets things down in this company, and while the overall fit and finish are good, the German alternatives feel more tightly screwed together. The Jaguar's infotainment system is clunkier than its rivals', too, although the boot is the biggest of the trio at an impressive 540 litres. Rear-seat passengers will have no complaints about a lack of leg or headroom, either.

Plans to move Wolverhampton Council vehicles to new home
Council vehicles such as bin lorries and gritters could be moved to a new home under plans to demolish an industrial site. City of Wolverhampton Council wants to relocate its fleet from its current Culwell Street depot to a purpose-built base on Hickman Avenue. If approved, demolition of existing units could start in winter and construction work could start in early Bhupinder Gakhal said the application was a "critical step" in regenerating the site through the Brewers Yard scheme. The Hickman Avenue depot would house vehicles such as bin lorries, works vans, street-cleaning vehicles and school minibuses. The council added the relocation and redevelopment works would lead to hundreds of construction jobs and help reduce its carbon site would also house its taxi licensing facility, a spokesperson said: "The Hickman Avenue redevelopment will ultimately ensure the sustainability of essential frontline services by consolidating, rationalising and optimising our operations."It will lead to reduced energy costs and asset maintenance and support the transition of the council's combustion engine fleet to EV."Separate planning approval is already in place to demolish buildings at Culwell Street and improve brownfield land earmarked for the Brewers Yard scheme, which is set to deliver hundreds of new homes, alongside retail and commercial space. Hyundai's going after the BMW M3 with a track-ready super-saloon – and it's being revealed next month

The company has also released new images of the hot saloon, showing its twin rear spoilers and a chunky diffuser influenced by the one fitted to the extreme RN22e concept car . Although not fully shown, the front end of the new Ioniq 6 N draws on the sporty new N Line variant of the standard Ioniq 6, which was updated earlier this year. The changes are intended to 'maintain aerodynamic performance while achieving a smoother, more refined silhouette', said Hyundai. Asked what else we can expect, Simon Loasby, vice president of Hyundai styling group, said: 'The huge wing. You've got all those curves on top so we need to counter the lift. "Compared to Ioniq 5 N, we've had the chance to widen the fenders (who doesn't love a wide body?) so it's got even more stance, even more squat and even more cool factory.' Inside, the Ioniq 6 N is expected to adopt key components from the Ioniq 5 N crossover, such as its three-spoke steering wheel with N-specific drive mode buttons, as well as its more supportive front bucket seats. The Ioniq 5 N also packs an 84.0kWh battery that officially yields a range of 278 miles, although it's likely that the more aerodynamic Ioniq 6 N will boost this nearer to the 300-mile mark. The N-Dubz star showed off her bloodied nose and swollen face in a series of posts on her Instagram Stories, after completing a series of procedures to keep her 'eyebrows and cheeks' looking pert. Admitting she was keen to pack in as many treatments as possible, Tulisa revealed she had begun with a muscle-enhancing facial treatment at SkinCAN. The former X Factor star, who has previously shared her struggles with Bell's Palsy, explained: 'It enhances the muscles and gives you this snatched look on the face. It's brilliant if you don't want to use fillers.' Tulisa praised the treatment, saying that she really began to notice the results after being able to go five or six months without using Botox. Following the treatment, Tulisa then shared the results on her face, which included a bloody and sore nose, that left her looking like she'd been 'smacked in the face.' She added: 'I asked Jo to go a bit harder on that area because the next thing I'm doing isn't going to be touching that. No pain, no gain.' WHAT IS BELL'S PALSY? Bell's palsy is a condition that causes temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in one side of the face. It is a rare condition which is believed to affect around one in 5,000 people each year. It is is believed to occur when the nerve that controls the muscles in your face becomes compressed. The exact cause is unknown, although it's thought to be because the facial nerve becomes inflamed, possibly due to a viral infection. Variants of the herpes virus may be responsible. Around seven out of 10 people with Bell's palsy make a complete recovery, with or without treatment. Most people notice an improvement in their symptoms after about two to three weeks. However, a complete recovery can take between three and six months. Next, Tulisa completed a Collagen Wave with radiofrequency technology, performed by Dermastar's Neelam Patel. The procedure uses heat to stimulate fibroblasts - the cells responsible for generating collagen and elastin, resulting in a natural lift and smoothing out fine lines. Sharing that they skipped the usual micro needling treatment, Tulisa told her followers the procedure was 'super relaxing.' Tulisa went on to film herself during a full body massage and reflexology as she enjoyed a moment of calm before her next treatment, followed by Emface, which combines radiofrequency with HIFES (high-intensity facial electrical stimulation) to tone muscles. With her face covered in sticky pads, Tulisa admitted her face was going to be 'a little red' following the treatment. Tulisa then ended the day by receiving an Ethra laser for redness and collagen production - sporting a pair of black goggles to protect her eyes. Following her final procedure, Tulisa showed off her glowing natural complexion but shared that despite the redness, soothing cream was helping with the aftermath. The N-Dubz hitmaker reassured her followers that the healing typically takes a few days to a week and added: 'I should be ready to rumble by the weekend.' The singer was diagnosed with Bell's palsy in 2020 - a neurological disorder that causes paralysis or weakness on one side of the face when the facial nerve is damaged or stops working properly. Yet she soon became locked in a vicious cycle of having filler to even out her appearance and her face became inflamed and swollen. Speaking on Olivia Attwood's podcast So Wrong It's Right last month, Tulisa admitted the problems were particularly bad around the time she reformed with the trio in 2022, ending their 11-year hiatus from the music scene with a new tour and single release. A doctor soon got to the cause after performing an ultrasound on her face, finding 'three chronically infected cysts' in her cheek, one of which popped during an 'explorative operation' due to being so bulbous. Tulisa shared: 'I've no idea what they were caused by, they weren't filler, they were just self-occurring, but I came out of the operation and instantly my face was less swollen. She added that after having her first Bell's palsy attack at the age of 24, she attempted to use fillers to 'balance out' her face, causing her to be locked in a 'vicious cycle.' Two years passed and the condition was kept at bay, but she started to feel a 'low-level swelling' in the same cheek, which rapidly increased. She explained: 'I would have like tingling sensations like little ants crawling in my face. I started seeing doctors all around the UK – "Something's wrong with me, what's wrong with my face" – it was so scary. This went all the way up until this year it was horrific. The singer was diagnosed with Bell's palsy in 2020 (pictured) a neurological disorder that causes paralysis or weakness on one side of the face when the facial nerve is damaged 'I constantly felt like my cheek was on fire. I'd have good days and bad days and on some days, I'd take steroids, which would bring it down. 'When I was doing that N-Dubz run it was at its worst, so you might see an interview, I look normal. And then you see another interview, it's like, what the hell is going on with my face?' Tulisa also shared her belief that the painful cysts had contributed to a long list of medical concerns she has battled with for years such as sarcoidosis and immune disorders. She shared: 'I've had all these health problems for years – sarcoidosis, immune disorders and this explains all the symptoms that I was getting and could have been causing Bell's palsy because in total there was, I think, six of them. They could have been growing over the years, actually triggering the Bell's.' After years of experimenting, Tulisa said she decided to remove the filler from her face and now only uses it in her lips.
