Florida Highway Patrol has yet again won the national Best Looking Cruiser competition, this time with its C8 Corvette. It's the third year in a row the law enforcement agency has claimed the title, making people wonder if anyone can beat the insurgent dynasty. The mid-engine American sports car was revealed as part of the FHP fleet back in April of this year. Wearing the distinct black and tan paint scheme that's illegal for anyone to copy, it's not just a public relations vehicle but instead is used as an actual cruiser.
Before anyone gets riled up about government waste, know that FHP didn't buy the C8 Corvette. It was seized from a drug trafficker, then repurposed for law enforcement use.
Currently, it's stationed at Fort Myers in southwestern Florida. Speeders and other violators need to keep a sharp eye for the cruiser because it can do 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds and hit a top speed of 194 mph, so outrunning it is unlikely.
The interior has retained the supple red leather upholstery, but there's a computer and mobile printer mounted for duty purposes.
The Best Looking Cruiser competition is put on every year by the American Association of State Troopers. Every state submits photos of their entries, then the public gets to vote. While some go for rather traditional images, FHP got a little wild, having a cheetah from Zoo Miami pose with the sports car.
FHP made it clear when it revealed the C8 Corvette that while it's a patrol vehicle, the flashy sports car will still be used for some public outreach programs. Entering it into the Best Looking Cruiser competition is just the start, with the Chevy likely used at public events, including leading parades, in the future.

Chevy Just Broke The EV Range Record By Driving A Silverado 1,059 Miles, But You'll Never Get Anywhere Close To That

The race to get the most range out of your electric vehicle's battery isn't exactly anything new. It's pretty much been happening since EVs first hit the scene, but Chevy just blew everyone else's doors off with the feat it just achieved in a 2026 Silverado EV Work Truck: 1,059.2 miles on a single charge. I know that sounds nearly impossible, because it sort of is. At least, it is for normal people like you and me. Despite the fact the EPA rates the Silverado EV WT at 493 miles, Chevy was able to more than double it using some tricks no regular person would ever do. Engineers took hypermiling to the extreme with this experiment, They lowered the truck's windshield wiper arms, inflated its tires as high as was safe, got rid of the spare tire, changed the wheel allignment, added a tonneau cover, turned off the climate control and made sure that — for the most part — there was only ever one person in the truck. Of course, the biggest thing Chevy did to gain a range advantage was driving the truck quite slowly. The team averaged somewhere between 20 and 25 mph for the entire test, which meant it took seven days to complete. Obviously, no one except for the weirdest engineers and biggest hypermiling nerds will ever come close to doing most of these things, but it clearly paid off with the truck averaging a massive 4.9 miles per kWh. It's not really possible to break it down, but I'd wager that driving at those low speeds made a far bigger difference than all of the other changes combined — especially the weight savings measures. The Silverado EV WT weighs right around 8,500 pounds all by itself, so I doubt that removing the spare tire or making engineers drive solo made that much of a difference. Read more: Buy One Of These Electric Pickup Trucks Instead Of Humiliating Yourself With A Tesla Cybertruck What Did We Learn? Well, there's a lot that goes into hypermiling... clearly. A group of 40 engineers says they took turns driving in one-hour shifts on public roads to push the 205-kWh battery of the Silverado to its limits. Their efforts were enough to unofficially beat the Guinness World Record Lucid set in July with an Air Grand Touring that traveled 749 miles across Europe. "Getting this kind of range on a full charge doesn't happen by accident. It takes deep integration across battery chemistry, drive unit efficiency, software and vehicle engineering—and that's exactly what the team delivered, Kurt Kelty, VP of battery, propulsion and sustainability, said in a statement. "This achievement is a great example of how far our EV technology has come, and the kind of innovation we're building on every day at GM." I know that none of this is super pertinent to real-world driving, but more often than not, the automotive world revolves around who can get the biggest number. In this case, it sure looks like that "biggest number" belongs to General Motors and the Chevy Silverado EV. Want more like this? The 1,250-HP Corvette ZR1X Costs $3.5M Less Than a Ferrari F80

It may be America's supercar, but the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is going to be 'modestly' priced for its performance. Given its incredible output of 1,250 hp, claimed 2.3-second 0–60-mph time, the soul-stirring sounds its 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 makes, and the fact it has AWD due to a front electric motor, this Corvette could have asked for top-shelf Ferrari money. Turns out, Chevrolet is starting the ZR1X at just over $200,000 for the coupe and just under $220,000 for the convertible. But that's not the only ZR1X news, as Chevy also announced a special edition.. The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, with 1,250 hp and a starting price of $207,395, offers supercar performance at a fraction of the cost of rivals like the Ferrari F80. Chevy also announced a $241,395 Quail Silver Limited Edition with exclusive features, available in early 2026. This summary was generated by AI using content from this MotorTrend article. Read Next As we said, with 1,250 hp on tap—and 145 lb-ft of torque ready to drive the front wheels as part of that combo—the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X could easily trip the million-dollar price tag, American made or not. Just look at its competitors in power and speed. The 2026 Ferrari F80 pushes out 1,184 hp and 749 lb-ft of torque with a 2.1-second run to 60 mph, and asks $3.7 million for the privilege. Then there's the 2026 McLaren W1, the successor to the P1. Coming in at 1,258 hp and 988 lb-ft of torque, it will hit 60 mph in 2.7 seconds—and costs around $2.1 million. Meanwhile, the 2026 Corvette ZR1X beats the Ferrari in power, the McLaren in the sprint to 60 mph, and is engineered to hit 233 mph with a starting cost of $207,395 for the 1LZ coupe. Want to drop the top in the most powerful 'Vette? Add just $10,000 more, at $217,395. If you want more features baked into your ZR1X, the 3LZ coupe will cost $218,395 and the 'vert $228,395. Chevrolet hasn't finalized pricing for the ZTK Performance package yet, but we may have a small clue as to how much it might cost. That's thanks to a new limited-edition model called the ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Edition that will be launched during the 2026 Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week. It comes standard with the ZTK pack that includes higher spring rates to better take advantage of the downforce provided by the ZR1X Carbon Fiber Aero package. The ZTK goodies also include Michelin Pilot Cup 2R tires and additional tuning for the chassis controls. Additionally, the Quail Silver Limited Edition comes in a special exterior color and a first for Corvette. Inspired by the Inca Silver offered on the 1957 to 1959 C1 Corvette, the car's Blade Silver Matte paint is a modern approximation to the historic color. Other exterior features include orange painted calipers, black exhaust tips, and carbon flash painted mirror caps. Inside, the standard interior color scheme utilizes Sky Cool and Medium Ash Grey materials with Habenero accents. This interior color combo is available on all 2026 Corvettes from the Stingray to the 'standard' ZR1X. The Silver also gets a plaque noting noting its build number within the run, mounted on the 'waterfall' center interior speaker between the seats. Finally, it's only available as a convertible and is based on the ZR1X 3LZ trim. The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Edition will cost $241,395, but that price doesn't include destination (which is likely $1,995). We also don't know yet how limited the Quail edition will be. Production of regular ZR1X models is scheduled to begin by the end of th year, while production of the Quail Silver Limited Edition will start in early 2026.

GM's Californian Design Team Dreamt Up This SoCal-Inspired Corvette Concept With A Removable Canopy

Earlier this year General Motors announced that it would be revealing a series of forward-thinking Corvette concept cars, each developed by one of its different global design styles. The first one was created by GM's newly opened design studio in England — sure, whatever, good for them, but we were a little bit wary about a Corvette designed by Brits. The Corvette is perhaps the most quintessentially American car and among the most recognizable, especially if we're talking sports cars. Luckily, the General has now shown off the second of its new Corvette hypercar concepts, which was designed by the team at GM's Advanced Design studio in Pasadena, California, a 148,000-square-foot facility that has 130 staff including artisans, creatives, designers, fabricators, and sculptors. Aptly called the California Corvette, this concept "reimagines the Corvette with a futuristic Southern California twist and reflects GM's deep roots in the SoCal design community." Now, this concept isn't meant to preview the next-gen Corvette per se, but it does show us the sort of ideas and themes GM's designers are interested in. Read more: These Are The Cars You'd Buy If They Were $20,000 Cheaper Long And Super Low Where the British concept was more angular and fighter jet–like, this one is curvier and more shark-like, with splashes of color and intricate details. At 182.5 inches it's essentially the same length as a C8 Corvette, but its 109-inch-long wheelbase is a two inches longer, and it's just 41.4 inches tall, making it a couple inches lower than a Ford GT. While GM doesn't give any specific powertrain details, the brand envisions it would be electric with a T-shaped prismatic battery pack that gives it a supercar driving position and aids airflow around the chassis. Its single-piece canopy is hinged at the front and the upper shell can be removed, transforming it into an "open-air track car," though sadly there are no images of what that looks like. There may not seem to be any traditional Corvette design cues at first glance, but its coke-bottle shape, prominent fender flares, double-bubble roof, tapered cabin and pointy nose all connect it to past models. There is some fascinating aero trickery going on, like the U-shaped section on the rear deck and the way you can see all the way through the car, from the front end looking into the side intakes all the way back to the giant diffuser. Step Inside The interior is even more futuristic, with almost every element stripped away, but the shape of the "dashboard," "door panels," and "center console" are similar to the C8's cabin. I put those elements in quotes because the SoCal Corvette concept really just has a yoke-style steering wheel with a slim digital gauge cluster... and that's basically it. The driver is cocooned by ribbons of red, which wrap around and are integrated into the car's tub. It's not exactly realistic, but very cool. Brian Smith, the design director of the Pasadena studio and lead of the project, said "Southern California has been at the heart of automotive and design culture for a century, and GM has had a deep design presence here for nearly 40 years. We wanted to ensure that this concept was developed through that SoCal lens, but with a global and futuristic outlook. Duality of purpose is the basis of this concept's design strategy." The company says the Pasadena studio also "reinforces GM's commitment to U.S. design leadership, creation, and innovation, with California continuing to shape the future of mobility. GM hasn't yet said when the next Corvette concept will be unveiled, but the company has design studios in Detroit, Seoul and Shanghai, so it'll likely come from one of those. Want more like this?
