Liam Gallagher shares huge life update during Oasis' Croke Park concert
Liam Gallagher made a 'sober' confession as Oasis launched their gig at Croke Park on Saturday night (August 16). After already taking Cardiff, Heaton Park, Wembley Stadium and Murrayfield Stadium by storm, the Gallagher brothers returned to Ireland for the first time since 2008.
The last time Oasis performed in the country where they once had a holiday home was at Slane Castle, Ireland's largest music venue. Their two sold-out nights in Dublin were hosted at the home of the GAA, the sports federation responsible for Gaelic football and hurling.
With over 160,000 tickets snapped up, many Irish fans were left disappointed in their attempts to secure the coveted tickets last year, reports the Manchester Evening News. Excitement was mounting throughout the city all day, with plenty of bucket hats being worn to combat the sun and high temperatures. It comes after Lennon decided to snub the Dublin concerts and jetted to Ibiza.
Once again, The Verve's Richard Ashcroft served as the opening act, who managed to down a pint of Guinness in one gulp, choosing not to split the G. Following the same set-list used at all their gigs so far, Oasis kicked off their show with Hello, before diving into Acquiesce and Morning Glory.
Liam donned his signature green Kangol, while Noel wore a crisp white shirt, as the younger brother announced 'Dublin City in the area'. Before performing Some Might Say, Liam took a moment to reflect on playing in Croke Park for the first time.
He said: "I think I'm a Croke Park virgin! We haven't played here before, have we? All I do know [is] this [is] the soberest I've been in Ireland since I was about four or five or something like that," he said.
Whilst Liam is correct in saying it was his maiden appearance at the venue, Noel had previously backed U2 with his High Flying Birds in 2017. Later during the evening, Liam challenged the audience's clapping and Mexican waves just moments after hailing them as 'lunatics'.
"I never asked you to clap out of time or do a Mexican wave. But you've gotta turn around and put your arms up and jump up and down like you don't care. If I can do it, so can you," he quipped.

Pierce Brosnan backtracks after calling for next James Bond to be a woman
Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has seemingly backtracked on his calls for the next 007 to be played by a woman. The Irish actor, 72, was famously the fifth actor to play Bond, starring in four films from 1995 to 2002 before Daniel Craig's reign began in 2006's Casino Royale. Since Craig bowed out in 2021's No Time to Die, speculation has been rife over which A-lister will step into the fictional secret agent's shiny shoes, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson currently the front-runner. However, many have suggested a change in sex for the role, calling for women to not only be side characters as the beautiful Bond Girls but to take the helm as the main Secret Service character. Previously, Brosnan threw his support behind the proposed changes, exclaiming to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019: 'Yes! 'I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years. Get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there.' He added that it would be 'exhilarating' and 'exciting' to see a woman take over after decades of male Bonds. But now, the Mamma Mia! star looks to have done a U-turn. In a new interview to promote his Thursday Murder Club film, co-starring Dame Helen Mirren, Brosnan told Saga Magazine: 'Oh, I think it has to be a man.' He continued: 'I wish (Amazon) them well. I'm so excited to see the next man come on the stage and to see a whole new exuberance and life for this character. 'I adore the world of James Bond. It's been very good to me. It's the gift that keeps giving. 'And I'm just a member of the audience now, sitting back, saying, 'Show us what you're going to do'.' His comments come after Amazon MGM Studios took creative control over the 007 franchise, and it was revealed last month that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight would be writing the script for the next film. Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will also direct. Fellow actor Dame Helen is also championing a male Bond, keen to keep with tradition despite her proud 'feminist' status. The Oscar-winning actress, 80, shared: 'I'm such a feminist, but James Bond has to be a guy. You can't have a woman. It just doesn't work. 'James Bond has to be James Bond; otherwise, it becomes something else.' Dame Helen previously told The Standard that 'the whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism' and added: 'Women have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service; they always have been.' Meanwhile, Brosnan has remained vocal about Bond's future since it emerged that there was a vacancy, sharing his advice for the next actor to step up to the challenge. 'There's so many great actors out there who could portray this character. I have no idea who, I have no idea. I wish whoever it is great success.' And while he previously expressed interest in returning to the role himself as a 'romantic notion', he later ruled it out. Brosnan later admitted to GQ that he felt it 'was best left to another man, really. Fresh blood'. We currently have no idea when to expect the big announcement that will fully launch Bond's next era. Until then, rumours will have to keep swirling, with names such as Theo James, Henry Cavill, Jack Lowden, James Norton, Josh O'Connor, Regé-Jean Page, and Paul Mescal in the mix with the bookies. Taylor-Johnson, 35, though, has been the frontrunner for a long time, only fuelling speculation when he recently penned a deal with Omega, the luxury watch brand that has featured in Bond films since 1995's Golden Eye. More Trending Then, at the 28 Years Later premiere, he played coy when Deadline quizzed him on his next project. 'I can't talk about it,' he replied before being escorted away. The identity of the next Bond Girl is also uncertain, but hot faves at the moment are Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Eve Hewson, Nicola Coughlan, and Michelle Keegan. Got a story? Noel Gallagher's brutal dig at Royal Family at Oasis gig as crowd boo
Oasis star Noel Gallagher was left in shock when he was met with boos from the audience during the band's final gig at Dublin's Croke Park in Ireland this weekend. Noel Gallagher was met with brutal boos when he graced the stage for Oasis ' closing night in Ireland during their ongoing reunion tour. Noel, 58, was on stage for the second of two performances at Croke Park when he riled up the crowd. Prior to belting out Half The World Away on Sunday night on August 17, Noel enquired: "Anyone from Manchester?" However, he didn't expect the reaction as the audience began a chorus of boos. Stunned by the reception, he continued: "Excuse me, excuse me? Booing for the people in Manchester? Oh no, no, no, no, that won't do! Be nice!" It comes as Liam's eldest son Lennon chose to bypass the Dublin gigs and jet off to Ibiza, according to the Mirror. As Noel presented Half The World Away, he declared: "This is for the Royle Family – the real Royal Family," taking a dig at Windsor. Before the late Queen Elizabeth 's Platinum Jubilee, he mentioned he wasn't "anti-royal" but observed that the "appeal" of the monarchy had been "dwindling". "There are other things for people to be interested in," he remarked, before describing the monarchy as "a bit farcical." The reception from the Dublin crowd couldn't dampen what proved to be a Supersonic weekend for Noel and Liam, who delivered two completely sold-out performances at the Irish venue, which holds more than 80,000. Liam disclosed that his mum Peggy was observing from the stands on Saturday as he devoted a song to her. Prior to performing Stand By Me, he announced to the crowd: "This one I want to dedicate to my mum, my mum is here tonight." Peggy Gallagher has been backing her two sons since they chose to set aside their feud to entertain fans following a break from music back in 2009. During an interview earlier in June, Peggy was questioned about playing a role in bringing Noel and Liam back together. She responded: "I was the instigator, yes. But sure, wasn't it always going to happen at some time or other? It was their choice, of course. Look, you can't force them to do things they don't want to do." Also attending Saturday's performance was Noel's 25-year-old daughter Anaïs Gallagher. Revelling in the atmosphere among the audience, she posted video clips on social media of a pal belting out Live Forever. She also shared a snap of her dad alongside her uncle Liam, as they performed on stage to the joy of a wave of Oasis rockers. After the Dublin shows, Oasis will next head to Canada where they will take to the stage in Toronto. The band will then embark on a North American tour before returning to the UK for two additional London performances. Following this, they jet off to Asia, Australia, and finally South America, with the tour set to end in Brazil at the end of November.

Graham Linehan: JK Rowling failed to defend me over trans backlash
Graham Linehan, the Father Ted creator and women's rights activist, has accused JK Rowling of failing to defend him after a trans backlash damaged his career. The Irish comedy writer, 57, claimed that Rowling's 'silence' over attacks against him — a Father Ted musical was abandoned after he spoke out on transgender issues — made him feel isolated and added to the view that he was 'toxic'. Linehan also told The Spiked Podcast that attempts to smear Sandy Peggie, the Fife nurse who claims she was subject to unlawful harassment under the Equality Act when she was expected to share a changing room with Dr Beth Upton, a trans woman, were 'contemptible'. Linehan, who also wrote The IT Crowd, said he had been defending the rights of women and children for six years and has had to endure abuse and threats throughout that period. In 2020 he criticised abusive posts about Rowling after she made comments on gender ideology that were described as transphobic. He wrote later: 'Far from being on the wrong side of history, JK Rowling and I have been proved right over and over again that this is a poisonous ideology that is destroying lives.' In 2022 and 2023, Linehan said that the debate over transgender issues had 'consumed his life', lost him work, made him financially destitute and caused the end of his marriage. • Graham Linehan: It will take decades to undo the trans movement damage This week, Linehan accused Rowling of failing to defend his right to free speech over the trans controversy. She had 'never mentioned me, never said anything in my defence', Linehan said. 'When she got [involved in gender ideology issues], I thought, Oh my God, it's over. I can finally relax, I can finally fight back because someone's on my side, you know? 'And now her silence about me is just added to the feeling that I've done something wrong, that I'm toxic, and I know I am toxic, but it's not because I've done anything wrong. 'It's because people like JK Rowling won't stand up in defence of me. So it wasn't just the [trans rights activist] side pushing me out. It was a feeling of lack of solidarity and the kind of an embarrassment at my presence in the fight.' In 2023 a comedy show featuring Linehan in Edinburgh was cancelled because of complaints. Leith Arches said it had pulled the gig because the comedian's views did 'not align with our overall values'. Linehan is due to appear in court in September after pleading not guilty to harassment and criminal damage against a trans woman. He appeared at Westminster magistrates' court in London in May and denied two charges including one of harassing Sophia Brooks, 18, on social media. • Tough Crowd by Graham Linehan review — memoirs of a monomaniac Peggie's employment tribunal will hear its closing submissions next month. 'I think it might be a case that piques some people because it is so shocking that a nurse doing a tough shift on Christmas Eve can't even go to a changing room in peace without a man being there,' Linehan said. 'I'm so glad that she has taken the fight on because there's a lot of attention on her and on this particular story.' A spokesman for Rowling declined to comment.
