‘Will Congress Apologise?': Kiren Rijiju After Minta Devi Slams INDIA Bloc Over T-Shirt Protest
Kiren Rijiju's remarks came a day after Minta Devi condemned the use of her photograph during opposition's protest against alleged irregularities in Bihar's voter list.
After Bihar's '124-year-old' Minta Devi, who became the face of opposition's protest against 'vote theft', slammed the opposition MPs for using T-shirts featuring her, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju tore into the Congress, asking the party if they will apologise over the act.
Rijiju's post on X also included a video that first shows Priyanka Gandhi addressing reporters about alleged voter list manipulation, followed by Minta Devi criticising the Opposition for using her face in INDIA bloc-led protests outside parliament.
'Whole day Congress and opposition MPs used the photo of Minta Devi, mocked her that she is 124 years old! Will Congress apologise to the nation?" Rijiju posted on X.

Rijiju also linked the episode to internal Congress troubles in Karnataka, taking a swipe at the party over the sacking of minister KN Rajanna after he alleged voter list manipulation during the Congress government's tenure.
'Congress Minister in Karnataka has also accused his own Congress Government," he wrote.
Rijiju's remarks came a day after Devi condemned the use of her photograph during Tuesday's protest in New Delhi against alleged irregularities in Bihar's voter list.
Opposition MPs, led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had worn T-shirts featuring her picture alongside the phrase '124 not out," a reference to an Election Commission clerical error that listed her age as 124.
Devi told reporters she was unhappy about her image being used without consent and ridiculed the error, quipping that if authorities truly believed she was 124, she should start receiving an old-age pension.
The protest, held during the Parliament session, was part of the INDIA bloc's campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Opposition leaders have accused the Election Commission of colluding with the BJP to selectively delete voters, citing data from party workers that allegedly showed large-scale discrepancies.
The poll body has rejected these claims, insisting the revision process was conducted transparently.
Earlier on Monday, Delhi Police detained several MPs during the march towards the Election Commission's office.

Akhilesh hits out at ECI over affidavit denial
Hours after chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated in a press conference that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had not received any affidavits from Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has demanded that the Commission submit an affidavit in support of the poll panel's claim that it didn't receive any affidavit from the Samajwadi Party on complaints about voters' issues. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. (HT file) Yadav shared screenshots of email receipts purportedly showing that the affidavits were indeed submitted to ECI. The SP had reportedly submitted 18,000 affidavits alleging voter fraud and irregularities. Posting on his official X account Sunday evening, the former chief minister wrote: 'The Election Commission which is saying that it has not received the affidavits given by the Samajwadi Party in UP, should look at the receipt given by its office as proof of receipt of our affidavits. This time, we demand that the Election Commission should give an affidavit that the digital receipt sent to us is correct, otherwise, along with the 'Election Commission', 'Digital India' will also come under suspicion.' In a statement issued on Sunday, Yadav also said the Commission not only needs reforms but also radical changes. 'Today, the historic responsibility of saving democracy is on its shoulders. It is believed that many types of unwanted pressures are working on it, but it should not think that it is alone. When the Election Commission will start walking on the right path, the support of crores of Indians will become its protective shield. The public and public trust automatically start walking with those who walk on the path of truth.' 'A right and bold step by the Election Commission can ensure the future and welfare of infinite generations of the country. Everyone should listen to the voice of conscience. The Samajwadi Party gave 18,000 affidavits of vote robbery to Election Commission of India (ECI) but action is zero,' Yadav added.

After SC directive on Bihar voter roll, EC uploads details of 65 lakh deleted names
New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) Acting on the Supreme Court's directions, the Election Commission today uploaded on district magistrates' websites the details of nearly 65 lakh voters deleted from Bihar's draft electoral rolls. The information includes reasons for each deletion, such as death, migration, or duplication. The apex court, while hearing petitions last week against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, had ordered the Commission to publish the deleted names with reasons to ensure transparency in the process. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, in a statement during the day, defended the SIR exercise, terming it 'a matter of grave concern' that certain parties were spreading 'misinformation' about the deletions. He underscored that India's electoral system for parliamentary and assembly elections is a 'multi-layered, decentralised construct as envisaged by law.' Gyanesh Kumar said that details of 65 lakh deleted voters from Bihar's draft electoral rolls have been uploaded on district magistrates' websites in line with a Supreme Court directive. UNI SNG SSP

Ramesh submits complaint to vigilance chief
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA and former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has lodged a complaint with the vigilance director, demanding a detailed investigation into the corruption involving approximately Rs 100cr by the public sector institution Anert in the P M Kusum project, a central scheme to provide free solar pumps to farmers in Kerala. The complaint calls for an investigation into the irregularities and tender procedures from the project's inception. The complaint is supported by all relevant evidence, he said. The Anert CEO has been named as the primary accused in the complaint, said a statement. "The total financial loss incurred by the govt through these transactions can only be determined through a proper investigation. More culprits involved in the illegal transactions can only be identified through a comprehensive investigation. Additionally, there are various irregularities in the project's implementation. The guidelines issued by the Govt of India as per Annexure-A1 were completely violated, which can only be revealed through a proper and fair investigation," Chennithala said in the complaint. "Despite being eligible to call tenders only up to Rs 5cr, the Anert CEO called for tenders worth Rs 240cr. The first tender issued on Aug 10, 2022, marked the beginning of the irregularities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Vitauthority Learn More Undo There is clear misconduct in the withdrawal of the company Athithi Solar, which had offered the lowest rate in the tender. Typically, when companies withdraw in such cases, their deposit is forfeited but this was not done here. It appears that efforts were made to ensure that companies did not incur any losses even when the first contract was cancelled irregularly. However, the second tender was accepted at a significantly higher amount than the initial contract. The contract was secured at an amount up to 145% higher than what the central govt had set," he said. Even after retendering, deliberate efforts were made to select Tata Solar. The quote from Qantas Automation, which was lower, was disregarded in favour of Tata. Temporary staff were involved in altering even the amounts in the e-tender, he added. In this context, it is requested that a case be registered against the accused officials for these offences and that a necessary investigation be conducted to uphold the rule of law and justice, thereby preventing the embezzlement of public funds through fraudulent means, stated Ramesh Chennithala in the complaint.
