Beloved ‘General Hospital' Matriach Denise Alexander Dies at 85

Miami Herald10-05-2025
Denise Alexander, beloved star of General Hospital, died at the age of 85.
Denise Alexander, who played Lesley Webber on General Hospital, has died at the age of 85. She was born on November 11, 1939, in New York City and began acting as a child.
She appeared as Perry Como's daughter in 1949's Perry Como's Chesterfield Supper Club and had roles on many other series in the 50s and 60s, including The Twilight Zone, Father KnowsBest, and The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis.
Her first role on soaps was as Lois Adams on The Clear Horizon. In 1966, she landed the role of Susan Hunter Martin on Days of our Lives while a student at UCLA. In 1973, General Hospital snagged her away from Days when they outbid them during her contract negotiations with the show. When they hired her, GH didn't have a role ready, but quickly created one for her. The role was Lesley Webber, and it garnered her a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1976.
Alexander played an integral role in saving GH when it was on the brink of cancellation in the late 70's, along with her TV daughter Genie Francis, who plays Laura Webber, of Luke & Laura fame, and the rest of the contract cast.
Lesley Webber was killed off in 1984, but in true soap opera fashion was resurrected in 1996. Alexander reccured as Lesley until 2009 and then made sporadic visits to the show over the next decade. Her last appearance was in 2021.
Genie Francis spoke to TV Insider about Alexander, saying, "I loved her. She loved me. I stole her good stuff. When I look at myself sometimes on television, which I don't do often because I don't really like to watch myself, but I have seen myself do stuff and been kind of taken aback because I realized I just did Denise. So when I say I stole her good stuff, I'm saying I was so young, she imprinted on me. And some of my acting, some of my style of acting, was directly imprinted on me by Denise Alexander. And she was very, very good to me as I was growing up."
She went on to share, "She actually gave me this lovely necklace. It's like a little angel that's standing on a cloud, and it's on a pearl. It was a charm, and I wore it all the time. And then when my daughter wanted to become an actress when she was young, I said, 'You've got to have your good luck charm.' So I said, 'I'm going to give you this little angel that's been worn by two actresses, and now it's yours.' And so Eliza (Frakes, Francis's daughter) has that, and it's important to her too. And when I told Denise that, she cried. She was so excited to hear that what she had given me, I gave to my daughter."
Alexander died March 5, 2025. No details about the cause of death have been released. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard A. Colla, and is survived by her stepdaughter from that marriage, Elizabeth Colla.

General Hospital Performer of the Month for July 2025: Katelyn MacMullen

Katelyn MacMullen's performance after the Willow and Drew wedding fiasco just turned her into a two-time General Hospital performer of the month from Soap Hub! July 2025 Performer of the Month The Nominees Since Kathleen Gati returned as the disgraced Dr. Obrecht after a year and a half away from Port Charles, the actress stepped right back into the role as if she never left. In fact, this time around, Gati may be playing the best version of Liesl yet. She's bonded with her former fake grandson Rocco (Finn Carr) and had a heart-to-heart with Jason (Steve Burton) about her deceased daughter, all while acting like a source of comedic relief after Drillow's disastrous wedding. Gati has always played a character we love to hate, but this time around, I think we just love her. READ THIS: Find out what's coming up this week on GH. Finn Carr delivered an emotional performance earlier this month when Rocco learned the truth about how he was born. Carr portrayed the betrayed teenager left in the dark flawlessly, opposite Alexa Havins (Lulu) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) for the heartbreaking scenes as Rocco wondered if he would have ever been born if not for his surrogate mother, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud). Cynthia Watros reminded us this month just how angry she can get after Nina laid into Drew (Cameron Mathison) for destroying her daughter's life. Loud and enraged, Watros inhabited more than just a woman on the warpath; she captured the emotional toll it took on her to see her daughter get hurt, and to be partly to blame for it. The Top Spot If you thought MacMullen gave us a phenomenal performance in June, you haven't seen anything until you watch the actress express Willow's pain and grief over Drew's betrayal and now being allowed to see her kids. MacMullen showcased a range of emotions within merely two episodes, going from rage toward Drew to utter devastation, sobbing in her wedding gown after Michael (Rory Gibson) refused to let her see her kids. MacMullen proved once again that when given an emotional storyline, she has the ability to break viewers' hearts. Solve the daily Crossword

GH Spoilers August 4: Anna and Obrecht Reunite, Chase and Gio Talk

Key Takeaways: Anna and Liesl Obrecht encounter one another, with their history and Britt's disappearance potentially coming up. Chase runs into Gio and might try to convince him to give Brook Lynn a chance. Ric meets Molly for dinner, but keeps many secrets from her, including how her sister tampered with his car. Ava makes a proposal, likely to Alexis, which may be related to the Cassadine trust and Kristina's scheme. In addition to Anna encountering Obrecht, General Hospital spoilers for Monday, August 4, 2025, will also focus on Chase running into Gio and Ava making a proposal. Next on General Hospital Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) recently gave Anna (Finola Hughes) a heads-up that Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) was back in town. The doctor returned to connect with Rocco (Finn Carr), who needed to know about Britt (Kelly Thiebaud). She was more than happy to share stories and information about his birth. When Anna encounters Obrecht on Monday, how will their reunion go? Their history is complicated, but they're mostly in a better place. They both went raging a few years ago, after all. However, Anna knows what Obrecht is capable of, so this interaction could go a hundred different ways. Anna also knows about Jason's gut feeling that Britt is alive, so their conversation may veer that way. Meanwhile, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Britt is somehow involved with Dalton's research, and she's injecting herself with mysterious concoctions. Personally, you can tell she's lonely. She doesn't have her mother by her side. What happens when Britt is suddenly taken aback? It's not too soon for Jason to catch up to her, right? READ THIS: Here's what else is happening next week on GH. Unexpected Conversation Meanwhile, Dante has been able to talk to Gio (Giovanni Mazza) a couple of times since the big reveal. Those interactions were unsuccessful but not disastrous. Brook Lynn, on the other hand, hasn't had much face time with her biological son. But the last time they were in the same vicinity, it didn't go well. Things could start looking up because Chase (Josh Swickard) is about to run into Gio. Faced with this sudden opportunity, Brook Lynn's hubby could start making a case for Gio to give Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) a chance. READ THIS: Katelyn MacMullen is GH's Performer of the Month for July 2025. Potentially Awkward Father / Daughter Dinner Elsewhere, Ric (Rick Hearst) meets with Molly (Kristen Vaganos) for dinner. There's a lot that Ric knows that his daughter does not. Like how her sister cut the brakes on his car, resulting in the accident that sent him and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) to the hospital. He's also blackmailing Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) because of Kristina's bad choices. The father/daughter duo will probably have to stick to topics like the law and how Cody (Josh Kelly) isn't the man that Molly thought he was. What will happen when the ADA finds out that everybody in her life is lying to her? WATCH THIS: SoapHub Says spills the hottest soap tea! Finally, Ava (Maura West) makes a proposal. At Drew's (Cameron Mathison) and Willow's (Katelyn MacMullen) doomed wedding, Ava warned Alexis that she needed to talk to her. So, this proposal has to be about that. Ava may be playing into Kristina's hands if this is about striking a separate deal with Alexis regarding the money she has been embezzling from the Cassadine trust. This could be a move that tells Alexis and Kristina (Kate Mansi) that Kristina's plan is working. Solve the daily Crossword
