PKR Women slams opposition MP for 'female cow' remark

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Women's central exco member Farahida Fauzi has condemned an opposition member of parliament (MP) for likening women to "female cows" during a political ceramah, calling the remark an insult to all Malaysian women.
Farahida said the statement demeaned the dignity of women who have contributed significantly to the development of families, communities, and the nation.
"Islam honours women as equal and dignified beings," she said in a statement, citing Quranic verses and hadith that uphold respect for women.
Farahida said the Prophet Muhammad never compared women to animals, but instead honoured his wives, daughters and female companions.
She criticised the MP's language as crude and far removed from Islamic morals and the example of the Prophet.
"Differences of opinion in politics are normal, but they must not be used as an excuse to insult or ridicule women," she said, adding that comparing women to "female cows" revealed desperation for cheap applause.
She challenged Pas Muslimat to clearly state their position, asking if they agreed with such comparisons and whether it reflected the Islamic values their party claims to champion.
"As a woman, a mother, and a leader, I will not remain silent in the face of such insults," she declared.
Farahida affirmed that PKR Women will not bow to vile and repugnant politics and will continue fighting for justice, dignity and the honour of Malaysian women.
On Aug 5, an online portal reported that Perikatan Nasional (PN) Women chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati had said that Maran Pas Youth information chief Muhammad Salman Al Farisi's online statement was his personal views and did not represent the party.
"I believe that is Muhammad Salman's personal opinion and it does not represent the position or views of Pas leaders or Pas itself," she said.
Nevertheless, Mas Ermieyati added that the statement may be interpreted as inappropriate and sexist and should not have been made.
