PKR Women slams opposition MP for 'female cow' remark
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Women's central exco member Farahida Fauzi has condemned an opposition member of parliament (MP) for likening women to "female cows" during a political ceramah, calling the remark an insult to all Malaysian women. Farahida said the statement demeaned the dignity of women who have contributed significantly to the development of families, communities, and the nation. "Islam honours women as equal and dignified beings," she said in a statement, citing Quranic verses and hadith that uphold respect for women. Farahida said the Prophet Muhammad never compared women to animals, but instead honoured his wives, daughters and female companions. She criticised the MP's language as crude and far removed from Islamic morals and the example of the Prophet. "Differences of opinion in politics are normal, but they must not be used as an excuse to insult or ridicule women," she said, adding that comparing women to "female cows" revealed desperation for cheap applause. She challenged Pas Muslimat to clearly state their position, asking if they agreed with such comparisons and whether it reflected the Islamic values their party claims to champion. "As a woman, a mother, and a leader, I will not remain silent in the face of such insults," she declared. Farahida affirmed that PKR Women will not bow to vile and repugnant politics and will continue fighting for justice, dignity and the honour of Malaysian women. On Aug 5, an online portal reported that Perikatan Nasional (PN) Women chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati had said that Maran Pas Youth information chief Muhammad Salman Al Farisi's online statement was his personal views and did not represent the party. "I believe that is Muhammad Salman's personal opinion and it does not represent the position or views of Pas leaders or Pas itself," she said. Nevertheless, Mas Ermieyati added that the statement may be interpreted as inappropriate and sexist and should not have been made.

Has Sangetha been trying too hard apple-polishing with PR campaign to repair PMX's ruined image?
PKR Women secretary Sangetha Jayakumar has found herself getting snubbed for having mobilised a so-called digital solidarity campaign among party members to rejuvenate Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's battered public image. The personal effort of the daughter of former PKR vice-president Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar entailed sending out WhatsApp messages to PKR party members on a coordinated digital campaign for PMX through social media mobilisation. Claiming that PKR Women chief Fadhlina Sidek had endorsed the campaign, she told Malaysiakini that the 'very much grassroot initiative' centres on positioning PMX as a principled international statesman who has elevated Malaysia's global standing. But the special officer to Fadhlina in her capacity as Education Minister was accused of attempting to apple-polish PMX by Malaysiakini subscribers, many of whom are presumably made up of Pakatan Harapan (PH) loyalists who are disgruntled with the antics of PMX and his Madani government in recent times. 'Hello. Tangachi (younger sister in Tamil) … trying very hard to apple-polish PMX? Aiyo yo pocik (finish in Tamil),' teased one commenter with another labelling Sangetha as 'boot licker' but reminded her to do 'something real as your boss has no boots to lick'. Another commenter told Sangetha to limit her social media campaign to her PKR members given 're-building PMX's reputation and image among the general public is a useless exercise and an insult to the public's intelligence'. 'It's as if we cannot see through the wool you pull before our eyes. Tell your PMX that it's well within his ability to repair his tattered public image. Just consistently do the right thing,' advised the commenter. Another expressed pessimism that 'even a complete makeover will not show PMX differently than what he has shown in the past week'. 'The judicial crisis was created by him … He misjudged the public sentiment,' observed the commenter. 'He has failed as a reformer and has demonstrated that the more meaningful significant and impactful reforms will simply not happen under his watch. 'He tried to pivot criticism by pointing to compliance with process and procedures while the public were screaming adherence to principles and the spirit of the law. It speaks volumes when it's the public who schools him on right and wrong.' As one commenter cynically put it, it may be a tard too late for Sangetha to repair the damage inflicted on PMX's image as Malaysians at large are already pissed off with his untrustworthiness as evident from the mounting trust deficit in him and his Madani administration. – July 17, 2025

PKR Women ready for GE16, Sabah polls
JOHOR BAHRU (May 23): The Women's Wing of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is on a solid path in preparation for the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16) and Sabah State Election. PKR Women's chief Fadhlina Sidek said preparations began earlier through various training and empowerment programmes such as 'Run-2-Win' to ensure that the women candidates participating in the electoral arena are truly ready to win. 'We focus not only on training and talent but also on preparing the idealism, speech training, data training, voter engagement training, and instilling confidence in them to enter as candidates who can win,' she said here today. Fadhlina, who will defend her position as Women's chief in the central level elections for the 2025-2028 session, said this at a press conference after delivering her keynote address at the 18th Annual PKR Women's National Congress 2025 at the Danga Bay Convention Centre here. The election for Women's chief will witness a one-on-one clash between Fadhlina, who is also the Education Minister, and Ampang member of parliament (MP) Rodziah Ismail. In efforts to strengthen the line-up of women candidates, Fadhlina said PKR Women also introduced a financing initiative through the 30 Women Representatives (30Wreps) to help candidates enter the elections without having to worry about funding challenges. The Nibong Tebal MP, who also touched on the matter in her keynote address, said that the women's talent development programmes are also being carried out through the Sekolah Wanita Keadilan (SWAN), which now operates according to zones — Eastern, Northern, Southern and Borneo — as a platform to discover and train future women leaders. Meanwhile, she also emphasised that as a party that is now part of the government, all PKR members cannot be detached from national policies and must collectively support every government initiative for the welfare of the people. 'This includes preparations towards becoming an ageing nation by 2030, and among our members, there are those who have already reached such an age, but are very active citizens. 'It means, their preparation in politics, activism that we can see shows that we have very active citizens and they must be given attention in the overall context of how we see the preparation for them towards 2030,' she said. She also stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of the Social Work Profession Bill, which is considered one of the important steps in providing a more effective social support ecosystem in Malaysia. The bill is also aimed at producing more trained, professional, and effective social workers, taking into account the role of PKR members as drivers of community activities. The PKR National Congress 2024/2025 on Friday focuses on the process of electing new party leadership for the 2025-2028 session, including the leadership of the Central Leadership Council (MPP), Central Youth Leadership Council (AMK), and Central Women's Leadership Council, from 8 am to 5 pm. A total of 251 candidates are contesting in the elections, and they comprise 104 nominations for the MPP, AMK Leadership Council (85), and Women's Leadership Council (62). The PKR National Congress was officiated by the Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Friday night. Meanwhile, more than PKR delegates gathered in Penampang on Thursday night to attend the simultaneous opening speeches of the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Congress and the Women's Congress, broadcast live at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC). The atmosphere was lively with applause and cheers from the delegates as PKR Secretary-General Dr Fuziah Salleh delivered her opening address, touching on the need for party members to set aside differences and strengthen party unity. Delegates also appeared enthusiastic as Fuziah discussed the importance of strengthening the party in preparation for the upcoming Sabah State Election this year. Safina Masidin, 45, from PKR Tuaran Branch, described the call for party unity as timely, especially with the state election approaching. 'As party members, we need to heed this call from the top leadership. Unity within the party is crucial for us to continue moving forward as a strong team,' she said, also emphasizing that PKR members in Sabah are ready to help strengthen the party at the grassroots level and support efforts to champion the reform agenda. Mohd Azrul Mohd Taib, 39, from PKR Sepanggar Branch said that in line with the call, Sabah PKR needs to focus on local issues in facing the upcoming state election. 'We need to focus on issues close to the hearts of Sabahans, such as infrastructure, job opportunities for youth, and rural development. I am confident that PKR has solutions for these issues,' he said.
