Beloved shipwreck explorer and husband of top NJ lawyer dies during deep sea dive
Joe Mazraani, 47, suffered the emergency on July 29 while diving to the shipwreck of 'The Big Engine Steamer,' 200 miles offshore on the eastern edge of Georges Bank, according to his company, Atlantic Wreck Salvage.
His cause of death was not revealed at the time of the company's announcement.

However, they stated that a full investigation is ongoing and currently have 'no reason to suspect diver error or equipment failure.'
'Joe Mazraani was larger than life. He was kind, compassionate, and generous. A mentor and a student, a friend, brother, son, and partner,' Atlantic Wreck Salvage shared.
'Whether motoring aboard D/V Tenacious, diving into deep and dangerous water, or defending his clients in court, Joe demanded the best of everyone around him. Sometimes he demanded it grumpily—but he always demanded by example.'
Mazraani co-owned Atlantic Wreck Salvage with his wife, New Jersey Public Defender Jennifer Sellitti. He was also a criminal defense lawyer by trade.
Sellitti said she was on the boat when her husband died.

Atlantic Wreck Salvage shared a final photo of Mazraani at the bow of D/V Tenacious, the boat he used for exploration and historical marine salvage, before his death.
Mazraani was born in Lebanon and immigrated to the US when he was 15, according to his company's website.
In the mid-90s, he became a certified diver and 'quickly took to diving sunken wrecks off the Northeast US coast and instantly developed an obsession with exploring the sunken hulks that litter the approaches to New York Harbor.'

'Shipwreck exploration is a way of life for Joe,' his bio reads.
'He is president of Atlantic Wreck Salvage and operates the dive vessel 'Tenacious,' which was specifically acquired and outfitted to accomplish several projects, including locating and exploring U-550 and other deep, uncharted wrecks in the North Atlantic,' his bio reads.
Mazraani also led the expeditions to the famed 'Italian liner SS Andrea Doria and has dived the wrecks of HMHS Britannic, sister ship of Titanic, and RMS Lusitania.'
4 Mazraani was also a criminal defense lawyer by trade.
The beloved captain was inducted as an associate member of the Boston Sea Rovers — a non-profit organization dedicated to marine conservation and education.
The New Jersey Office of the Public Defender paid tribute to Mazraani on Friday following his death.
'With deep sadness, we share the loss of Joe Mazraani, beloved partner of Public Defender Sellitti and a cherished member of the legal and diving communities,' the office wrote on Facebook.
'Joe was larger than life: fearless, kind, and deeply committed to justice. Our hearts are with the Public Defender and his loved ones.'

Winnipeg dental clinic sues man who described 'terrible experience' in series of online reviews
A Winnipeg dental clinic targeted by several negative online reviews is now suing the man behind the posts for defamation. The dental clinic says the man posted "false, inaccurate, misleading, and defamatory" information about the clinic in a series of online reviews earlier this summer, according to the statement of claim filed at the Manitoba Court of King's Bench on July 29. The man posted his reviews to several websites — Facebook, Google, Yelp and the Better Business Bureau — in early July detailing his "terrible experience" at the downtown dental clinic, where he said he went for a tooth extraction at the end of June, according to the lawsuit. In his review, the man claimed a dentist at the clinic was not equipped to provide oral sedation. He also claimed to have accidentally ripped out new stitches from his mouth as he tried to replace gauze after the appointment, the suit says. "Go find a homeless individual in a back alley, give them $50 and tell them which teeth you need out. It will hurt less in the long run!" the man's initial review said, which is quoted in the lawsuit. A spokesperson for the clinic declined to comment on the lawsuit as the matter is before the courts. However, in an email to CBC News, the spokesperson said they welcome criticism because it helps the clinic improve its services. "That said, this does not give people the right to publicly state inaccurate, false, or defamatory statements. Doing so can be damaging to a business' reputation, is cowardly, and is against the law," the spokesperson said. Damages The clinic is seeking general, special and punitive damages against the man, as well as injunctions ordering the man to delete any defamatory material online involving the clinic and not to post more in the future, according to the suit. The clinic offered the man an apology and a chance to go back to the clinic to speak with the dentist who extracted his tooth, but he refused both, demanding a refund from the clinic through its management as well as the Manitoba Dental Association, the suit says. The man has since deleted his review of the clinic on Google, but the other three reviews remain online, the suit says. The man's posts were meant to recover dental fees he paid to the clinic, to question the clinic's integrity and reputation, and to hurt its profits, the suit claims. The clinic claims the man's posts have and continue to cause damages to its reputation and business. None of the allegations have been tested in court. A statement of defence has not yet been filed.

Wife finds missing husband's blue kayak on river, then body is found, WA cops say
A 38-year-old man was found dead in a river after his wife spotted his empty blue kayak, deputies in Washington said. Adam Anson was reported missing Saturday, Aug. 2, in Asotin, the Asotin County Sheriff's Office said in an Aug. 4 news release. His wife found his kayak anchored about 50 feet from the shoreline, across from Asotin Elementary School, deputies said. But her husband was nowhere to be seen. She called 911 and showed authorities his empty kayak, deputies said. Deputies said they tracked Anson's phone and used side-scan sonar but couldn't find him. The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office brought a marine unit and dive team from Idaho to the river and found his body within 20 minutes, deputies said. Anson's body was found about 80 yards from where his kayak was left, deputies said. Authorities said they believe he died from accidental drowning as there was no sign of foul play A medical examiner will confirm his official cause of death. Grieving friends and family shared their thoughts and memories of Anson on Facebook. 'I will cherish every moment we had together! I will never forget the endless love you have shown me in every day of our 15yrs as partners, lovers, best friends, we have so many memories I will hold with my soul forever!' his wife, Kelsey Anson, said in a Facebook post. 'Adam was so loved by this entire valley. He was a Husband, A Father, A son. Many knew him from his friendly face + service at Autozone,' Christy Wassmuth said in another post. 'Adam was a kind man and a good neighbor. Our hearts are broken for his sweet family, friends, and coworkers,' his neighbor Lynndee Wilks said in another post. The Snake River divides Washington and Idaho. Asotin is a small city near the river in southeastern Washington.
