MUMBAI: UPI users can now delegate payment access to trusted contacts—including family members, staff, or digitally inexperienced users—through a new feature on the
BHIM app
called
UPI Circle
. Launched by
NPCI BHIM Services Ltd
(
NBSL
), a wholly owned subsidiary of NPCI, the feature supports multiple use cases, including support for senior citizens, controlled spending for young adults, and secure delegation for small businesses.
For instance, senior citizens can have a family member approve payments on their behalf. Similarly, parents can enable children to manage educational or daily expenses through real-time approvals. Business owners can delegate payment initiation to staff for operational spending, such as vendor payments or fuel costs, with full oversight. The feature also allows individuals without a UPI-linked bank account to request payments, which can be approved by a trusted user in real-time.
The UPI user will get a sound notification as soon as the request is sent.
'At present, parents or family members who do not use UPI usually send a photo of the QR code asking their relatives to pay. With Circle, without linking their bank accounts they can send a request to family members who then authorise the payment without having to go through the hassle of saving the QR code photo in their gallery and searching for it'said Lalitha Natraj, MD & CEO, of NBSL Also, as a safety feature UPI apps limit the amount that can be paid by scanning QR code from gallery to Rs 2000.

The new service will help overcome this limitation. 'This is an interoperable solution and can be used with other third-party payment apps as well,' she said.
UPI Circle introduces partial delegation by allowing a primary user to authorise up to five secondary users to initiate payments. Each transaction requires explicit approval from the primary user via UPI PIN on the BHIM app. This ensures all
delegated transactions
are transparent and controlled, with the primary user receiving real-time notifications and maintaining visibility on all activities.
According to Nataraj, Circle is not developed as a business solution, but it can be used to enable staff or employees to make payments on the employers behalf without transferring money to the employee.
The feature is aimed at expanding access to digital payments while maintaining security and oversight. Lalitha Nataraj, MD & CEO of NBSL, said the feature is intended to create a more inclusive and connected financial ecosystem by enabling secure and flexible sharing of payment responsibilities.
UPI Circle is available on version 4.0.2 of the BHIM app, which also includes other updates such as Split Expenses, Family Mode, a Spends Dashboard, multilingual support, and a redesigned user interface. Users can access the UPI Circle section from the app's home screen or menu, add a secondary user by UPI ID or QR code, and set the delegation type to 'Approve every payment.'

PM Modi: Govt initiatives over 11 years helped farmers prosper

PM Modi (File Photo) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said initiatives undertaken during the last 11 years of his tenure have increased the prosperity of farmers and ensured an overall transformation of the farm sector, and promised that his govt's efforts towards farmer welfare will continue with "greater vigour" in the times to come. Ahead of 11th anniversary of his govt on June 9, the day he took oath for a third consecutive term in office last year, the Prime Minister posted on X a thread of a citizen engagement platform (MyGovIndia) that underlined how the farmers from being trapped in debt and uncertainty are now empowered with dignity, direct income support, better prices, modern infrastructure, and access to global markets through a massive 112% jump in agricultural export (from Rs 1.94 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 4.12 lakh crore in 2023-24). Emphasising how his govt worked to boost "dignity and prosperity" of farmers, Modi in his post said the farmers had to earlier depend on loans even to meet their basic needs but their lives have now become easier due to several decisions taken by the Centre. "We have taken several important decisions to ensure farmer welfare, whether it's PM-Kisan (income support scheme) or crop insurance scheme. Due to continuous increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP), the country's food producers are not only receiving fair prices for their crops but are also experiencing a rise in their income," Modi posted on X, reflecting on the last 11 years. The PM highlighted that govt has paid close attention to key aspects such as soil health and irrigation, which have been greatly beneficial, and urged people to read the thread, posted by the citizen engagement platform of the govt on empowering farmers and uplifting the country's farmers. The platform also shared basic details of almost all the initiatives taken by the Modi govt in the last 11 years for farmers and the farm sector. It noted that the crop insurance scheme helped insure over 23 crore farmers and disbursed claims of Rs 1.75 lakh crore, securing incomes and reducing risk. It also said the agricultural credit shot up from Rs 7.3 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 27.5 lakh crore this year, making access to affordable finance a reality for every small farmer. It also highlighted infrastructural development of the farm sector in 11 years, and shared how initiatives helped in substantially increasing foodgrain production.

Mangaluru man loses Rs 24 lakh in online investment scam

Mangaluru: A man allegedly lost Rs 24.2 lakh in an online investment scam. The complainant stated that in March last year, while browsing Instagram, he clicked on an advertisement link related to trading, which redirected him to a group called 'Fyers Market Discussion Group'. A person named Sharon Trivedi then added the complainant to a WhatsApp group and sent an application form encouraging him to invest in trading. After filling out the form and registering, Sharon sent a link for the complainant to download and install an app. Sharon Trivedi remained in constant contact and explained various attractive schemes, particularly about Institutional Stock and IPO Placement, urging the complainant to invest money. The app's customer support also instructed the complainant to deposit money and provided multiple bank account numbers and IFSC codes for the same. Similarly, through another Instagram advertisement, the complainant came across a different trading company. A person named Ishita Paul, using different WhatsApp numbers, provided information about trading and sent the complainant a website link. Following the instructions on the website, the complainant invested money and again received several bank account numbers and IFSC codes from the customer support team. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Between April 21, 2024, and May 31, 2025, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 24.2 lakh in multiple instalments via UPI, RTGS, and IMPS to various bank accounts provided by these unknown individuals. Although the fraudsters returned a small amount initially to gain trust, when the complainant asked for the remaining amount, he was asked to pay tax and commission. Despite paying these additional amounts, he was again asked to pay a 10% security deposit to withdraw the rest of the funds. This raised suspicion, and upon further inquiry, the complainant realised he had been cheated.
