
Nama Group electricity companies showcase key energy sector strategies and initiatives
Said Khalaf Al Abri, Director General of Planning and Project Development at Nama Power and Water Procurement, said that the company reported significant progress in renewable energy projects, including tenders for two major solar plants: the 500 MW Ibri 3 Solar Station and the 280 MW Al Kamil Solar Station, both slated for award in 2025.
He noted the completion of prequalification for five wind energy projects across Oman, with requests for proposals issued for two. All five projects are expected to be awarded this year, advancing the nation's wind energy sector. Al Abri added that the company aims to raise contracted renewable energy production to 65% of total capacity by 2030, with investments exceeding RO 1 billion.
On his turn, Eng. Sultan Ahmed Al Rawahi, Director General of the Load Dispatch Center at Oman Electricity Transmission Company, highlighted the commissioning of 116 electrical substations (including 17 operating at 400 kV) and achieving 99.9999% grid reliability.
He pointed out that Nama Electricity Distribution Company manages an advanced 100,000-km distribution network with 48,000 distribution stations and 720 substations, serving over 1.35 million subscribers across all governorates except Dhofar. The company has converted 75% of traditional meters to smart meters, targeting full coverage by Q4 2025. This reduced electrical losses to under 8% for the first time in the sector's history.
He added that the company inaugurated a smart grid pilot in the Wilayat of A'Seeb to integrate remote control systems and fault detection at the main control center, enhancing operational efficiency and reliability.
Meanwhile, Salim Said Al Kamyani, CEO of Nama Electricity Supply, outlined new digital initiatives enabling real-time transaction tracking, daily consumption monitoring via mobile app, auto-top-up for prepaid accounts, and electrical load management.
Eng. Ali Issa Shamas, CEO of Nama Dhofar Services, said that the company reported 99.7% water network reliability, production of 22 million cubic metres of treated water (99% quality), and an 84% smart meter conversion rate.
He explained that the company awarded tenders worth OMR137 million, including rural electrification projects to replace diesel generators and achieve carbon neutrality. Sewage network coverage in Salalah is projected to rise from 76% to 95% in 2025, he affirmed.

Muscat: The Ministry of Finance on Monday concluded meetings to discuss the detailed budget estimates of government entities for the fiscal year 2026 and the financial framework of the 11th Five-Year Development Plan (2026-2030). These meetings are part of the Ministry of Finance's commitment to aligning the financial requirements of government entities with annual plans and preparing the draft state budget for the fiscal year 2026, as well as preparing for the 11th Five-Year Development Plan (2026-2030). The meetings aimed to examine the current status of the state budget's implementation for the fiscal year 2025, discuss the recurrent and development budget estimates submitted by government entities for the next fiscal year and align them with the entities' annual plans, and prepare budget documents based on a program- and performance-based budget. Additionally, the meetings discussed the initial estimates for the financial framework of the 11th Five-Year Development Plan (2026-2030), in a way that achieves the annual goals of government entities and the social and economic objectives of the upcoming five-year development plan, in line with the national goals and programs of "Oman Vision 2040". More than 68 meetings were held at various senior and executive administrative levels. Some estimates were also discussed at the ministerial level, based on the nature of new projects or additional social and economic requirements of the upcoming five-year plan. These meetings were held as part of the Ministry of Finance's keenness to prepare the draft state budget in an integrated manner with various government entities, enhancing consistency between financial requirements and the goals of annual plans. This is in line with the government's direction toward achieving spending efficiency and the sustainability of public finance indicators. The Ministry of Finance affirmed that the government is moving forward with supporting the social and economic sectors through a balanced approach that links social and economic requirements with available financial resources and alternatives.

Oman, Egypt sign energy agreement

Oman's central bank issues treasury bills worth OMR50.15mn
Muscat: Oman's central bank raised OMR50.15 million by way of allotting Treasury Bills on Monday. The bills are for a maturity period of 91 days. The average accepted price reached OMR98.953 for every OMR100, and the minimum accepted price arrived at OMR98.940 per OMR100. The average discount rate and the average yield reached 4.19856% and 4.24298%, respectively. Treasury Bills are short-term highly secured financial instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance, and they provide licensed commercial banks the opportunity to invest their surplus funds. The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) acts as the Issue Manager and provides theadded advantage of ready liquidity through discounting and repurchase facilities (Repo). It may be noted that the interest rate on the Repo operations with CBO is 5.00% while the discount rate on the Treasury Bills Discounting Facility with CBO is 5.50%. Furthermore, Treasury Bills promote the local money market by creating a benchmark yield curve for short-term interest rates. Additionally, the Government may also resort to this instrument whenever felt necessary for financing its recurrent expenditures.
