Startups are even feeling more confident in terms of setting valuation expectations, after a clutch of firms like Ather Energy readjusted their issue size and valuations to get more investor participation amid a weak market. Over 80 companies are at different stages of approval for IPOs, about a fourth of which are in new age sectors, according to data shared by IIFL Capital.
"With the recent ceasefire and signs of progress between the US and China on tariffs, the (market) tone has become more constructive.
That's reflected in the strength of last week's block deals, which were well absorbed by the market. We are also seeing companies look at primary issuance more actively to take advantage of the current window," said Kailash Soni, head of India equity capital markets (ECM) at Goldman Sachs.
Not to say that there will be a flurry of IPOs immediately given that it takes longer to launch IPOs but the momentum is back.
"The stability we are now seeing has certainly renewed interest-we expect to see meaningful activity in the second half of the (calendar) year particularly from companies that had previously put plans on hold," Soni added.
The sensex, from an all-time high of nearly 86K mark in late Sept 2024, had lost nearly 15% to 73K by early April this year. Since then it has gained, accompanied by intermittent spells of high volatility, to around 82K level now, down just about 4% from its lifetime high level nearly eight months ago.
Companies like LG Electronics' India arm had paused IPO plans amid market volatility.
Zepto, PineLabs, Lenskart, Groww and PhonePe are among startups that are preparing for IPO while some like Urban Company and PhysicsWallah have already filed their draft IPO papers with SEBI.

"A lot of new age companies are accelerating the filing of DRHPs. If the markets remain stable, we will see more new age firms launching IPOs this year compared to traditional companies. The markets now are in a risk on mode," said Gaurav Sood, managing director and head, ECM at Avendus Capital.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has overtaken Indira Gandhi's record for the most consecutive Independence Day speeches from the Red Fort, delivering his 12th in a row on Friday. Only Jawaharlal Nehru , India's first prime minister, has given more consecutive speeches — 17 between 1947 and 1963. Indira Gandhi, who served two terms between 1966-77 and 1980-84, addressed the nation 16 times in total, with 11 of those being consecutive. As IPO frenzy cools, companies slash issue sizes to attract investors
A moderation in investor optimism in 2025 has forced various companies to scale down the sizes of their Initial Public Offerings (IPO) of late. Since January, at least 15 companies, such as NSDL , JSW Cement , Ather Energy , SK Finance, Bluestone, Schloss Bangalore (Leela Hotels), Swastika Infra, and MobiKwik, among others, have pared their offer values to ensure their issues sail through amid a deluge of share sales. So far in 2025, 48 companies have raised ₹64,135 crore through IPOs. In 2024, 90 IPOs raked in ₹1,59,535 crore. "The supply of IPOs currently is too much, whether SME or main board, both have a very high supply of companies coming to list," said Priyesh Jain, founder and director at Socradamus Capital Pvt Ltd, a merchant banking firm. " So, investors have a lot of options and the liberty to choose where to invest." JSW Cement cut its offer value from ₹4,000 crore to ₹3,600 crore, Ather Energy from ₹3,100 crore to ₹2,626 crore, SK Finance from ₹2,200 crore to ₹1,600 crore, Bluestone from ₹1,000 crore to ₹820 crore, and Schloss Bangalore (Leela Hotels) from ₹5,000 crore to ₹3,500 crore. NSDL reduced the total number of shares in the offer from 5.73 crore shares to 5.01 crore. Mobikwik cut its issue size three times from an initial ₹1,900 crore in 2021, to ₹700 crore in January this year, to ₹572 crore. THE ECONOMIC TIMES Investor pushback on IPO valuations has also prompted companies to trim the offer sizes. "IPO sizes are being cut partly because valuations are not matching initial expectations, and investors are seeking a margin of safety," said Bhavesh Shah, managing director and head of Investment Banking at Equirus Capital. "This is prompting promoters to sell fewer shares than originally planned." Uncertain stock market conditions have crimped companies' ability to price IPOs aggressively, though valuations are still at a premium to long-term averages. "Institutional investors are wary of such high valuations, as shares often decline significantly within a year of listing," said Deep Shah, senior manager at Unistone Capital Pvt Ltd, a Mumbai-based merchant banking firm. "With numerous IPOs coming up, new companies struggle to command high valuations without peer comparisons." Sebi rules allow companies to increase or reduce IPO size by up to 20% between the draft prospectus and the final offer document, giving issuers room to adjust to market conditions. Companies decide the proportion of the fresh share issue versus the offer for sale depending on these factors. "Many now see IPOs not as an end game or a full monetisation event, but as the first step toward long-term value creation and partnership with new investors," said Shah of Equirus.

Festive rush chokes market areas as illegal parking and thin policing cripple traffic
1 2 Nagpur: Mahal and Itwari, the city's traditional commercial hubs, have turned into sprawling parking stretches this festive season as thousands throng their congested lanes. The heavy festive rush, coupled with illegal parking and a thin traffic police presence, has pushed these areas to the brink of gridlock. Over the past week, thousands of shoppers from across the city have thronged the markets, stretching from Chitnis Square to Ram Cooler Square, then Zenda Chowk, Badkas Square, and deep into the internal lanes of Mahal and Itwari. While major landmarks like Badkas Square occasionally see a police traffic marshal, key junctions remain unmanned for most of the day, leaving vehicles, handcarts, and pedestrians to jostle for space. Residents in such market areas say the festive chaos has effectively confined them to their homes. "In the evenings, we can't even step out for milk. There's no space to walk, and if you try to take your two-wheeler out, you're stuck for half-an-hour before even reaching the main road," said Shyam Pathekar, a 62-year-old resident of Mahal. A shop owner at Badkas Chowk said, "Only when VVIPs are visiting the area, you can see police presence there. The moment they are gone, the situation is back to normal. Leave normal days, even on festive days you can hardly spot a cop at Badkas Chowk, which is a key junction." Ironically, the Mahal–Itwari belt saw road widening and footpath development over the past two years to accommodate both vehicular and pedestrian movement. But with enforcement lagging, the extra carriageway has simply become more parking space and a dais for hawkers. Shopkeepers admit that festive-season deliveries and aggressive discount sales have drawn unprecedented crowds, but many blame the absence of continuous traffic monitoring. The festive traffic surge is expected to last another fortnight. However, several residents say they have seen no sign of increased manpower. "We hear about special drives against illegal parking, but on the ground, nothing changes. By the time a tow truck comes, people have already parked and gone shopping," said Chandrashekhar Deshpande, a commuter who spent 30 minutes covering less than a kilometre. A senior police official from the cotton market zone told TOI that currently, 32 personnel are deployed on the ground. Due to the festive season of Ganpati, an additional 60-70 personnel are being brought in from other zones for bandobast. He added that the local staff strength is lower than usual due to the festivities. "We plan our deployment accordingly so we have at least 100 cops on duty," he said. With festival shopping set to peak, traffic police face mounting calls to post additional personnel at key chokepoints, impose stricter towing action, and coordinate with the civic body on vendor regulation. Until then, for shoppers and residents alike, the Mahal–Itwari belt will remain a test of patience — and a lesson in how quickly widened roads can be swallowed by festive chaos.
