Kapil Mishra, Cabinet Minister in the Delhi government, shared the video on his official X handle and wrote, "This is unacceptable in Delhi. A video has surfaced showing a ban on Indian attire at a restaurant in Pitampura. This is unacceptable. CM @gupta\_rekha ji has taken serious note of the incident. Officials have been directed to investigate the incident and take immediate action."

In a follow-up tweet, Kapil Mishra posted videos of the restaurant owner Neeraj Aggarwal and manager Narender Singh, in which they issued clarification that their restaurant does not restrict entry based on dress code.
Neeraj Aggarwal said, "All guests in all dress codes are welcome to our outlet. I invite people, whether from North India or South India, to our family restaurant and enjoy."
The restaurant manager added that on Raksha Bandhan, they will also offer a 10 per cent discount and a complimentary dessert to women at their restaurant, irrespective of attire.

The initial viral video has triggered outrage online, with many questioning why Indian clothing would be disallowed at a restaurant in India.
One user commented, "Their dress code is like - no entry if you look like you actually belong to the country." Another wrote, "Please give one 1-star rating on Google Maps and see how they bend." A third added, "Some of our people are still colonised mentally."
However, some users argued that the restaurant is within its rights to set its own rules.
"We need to stop making an issue out of everything and grow up. That's a private restaurant, and they have every right to decide who enters and wears what. It's not public property that everyone can claim rights to. It does not mean they are disrespecting the attire," one user said.
Another wrote, "What is the issue in this? Every restaurant has a dress code. Creating an issue of nothing. There are thousands more restaurants to visit."
A third user added, "So? In Australia, some restaurants deny you entry if you are not dressed in formal attire. Even smart casuals are not allowed. And they do it regardless of ethnicity. It is the right of the restaurant to deny based on the dress code they have set."

Modi likely to be in US next month for UNGA meet, bilateral talks with Trump
Preparations are underway to schedule a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US in the last week of September, The Indian Express has learnt. The ostensible reason is to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York, but a key objective will be to meet US President Donald Trump, iron out the issues on trade and arrive at a common ground on tariffs. This will also give an opportunity for the two leaders to announce a trade deal. However, for this to fructify, a lot of moving parts have to fall in place. There has to be movement on two fronts — the Russia-Ukraine war and the Indo-US trade deal. Negotiations are underway on both fronts, and the stakes for Delhi are high since it has been slapped with 50 per cent tariffs by the US — 25 per cent for its high tariffs and 25 per cent penalty for buying Russian oil. On the Russia-Ukraine war front, Delhi is closely following the meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 to discuss a resolution to the war in Ukraine. Modi has already spoken to Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the last few days. A resolution to the conflict is in India's interest, sources said, and this has been conveyed to both leaders. On the trade deal front, Indian and American negotiators had been close to sealing a deal, but the US President was not happy about the deal that was agreed between the interlocutors. So, the negotiators have to discuss the terms of the deal further, and they have to offer new terms, as red lines have been drawn. But the two sides are focused on the new goal for bilateral trade — 'Mission 500' — aiming to more than double total bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030. This was decided during Modi's visit to the White House where he met Trump in February this year. They had also agreed that to realise this ambition, they would require new, fair-trade terms, and they had announced plans to negotiate the first tranche of a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by fall this year. And to conclude a wide-ranging BTA, the US and India had agreed to take an integrated approach to strengthen and deepen bilateral trade across the goods and services sector, and work towards increasing market access, reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers, and deepening supply chain integration. But that has run into rough weather. And the officials and negotiators have to unlock the issues and negotiate a deal by September last week – the Prime Minister's visit to the US is expected to 'dot the i's and cross the t's', sources said. Now, to schedule the visit, as a first step, the Indian side has reached out to the UN headquarters for a speaking slot for the Prime Minister at the UN General Assembly. As of now, that has been scheduled for September 26 morning. Trump is slated to speak on September 23. At the UNGA, permanent missions to the UN have to indicate the level of representation from each country, and the speaking slot of 15-minutes is granted accordingly. If the PM's visit takes place, it will give an opportunity to speak at the UNGA and hold bilateral meetings with Trump and other world leaders. Zelenskyy also indicated Monday, after his phone call with Modi, that they 'agreed to plan a personal meeting in September during the UN General Assembly'. Sources said plans are underway since the entire process of accreditation and travel arrangements to the UN needs to be completed in August. Ties between India and the US have been impacted in recent months after Trump claimed to have brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan — a claim denied by Delhi. He followed it with diatribes against India on tariffs, and imposed 50 per cent tariffs. Sources said that since the two countries are strategic partners, they have to sort out the issues, and the PM's visit will be to smoothen the issues, so that a visit by the US President to India can take place in October for the summit of Quad leaders.

Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID alone not enough proof of citizenship: Bombay high court
MUMBAI: Observing that claim of citizenship must be examined strictly under the Citizenship Act, 1955, Bombay high court Tuesday rejected the bail plea of a man who the police allege is a Bangladeshi national. The Thane resident, since 2013, said he holds Aadhaar , PAN card, voter ID and passport. His documents are linked to income tax records, bank accounts, utilities and business registration. Justice Amit Borkar said, "Merely having documents such an Aadhaar card, PAN card or voter ID does not, by itself, make someone a citizen of India. These documents are meant for identification or availing services but they do not override the basic legal requirement of citizenship as prescribed in the Act.'' The Wagle Estate police station lodged an FIR against Babu Abdul Ruf Sardar. The prosecution alleged he entered India illegally and used forged Indian identity documents. His phone, on forensic examination, contained digital copies of his mother's and his birth certificates issued in Bangladesh. Verification of Aadhaar card from Unique Identification Authority of India is awaited. Sardar was in "frequent contact with multiple numbers linked to Bangladesh. " Justice Borkar said the allegations are not limited to mere technical violation of immigration norms but "indicate a case of deliberate concealment of identity and creation of forged documents for obtaining Indian citizenship benefits." The Citizenship Act lays down a permanent system of acquiring and losing citizenship.

"Won't Compromise, Will Find New Markets": Shivraj Chouhan Slams US Tariffs
New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his determination to protect the interests of farmers despite tariff pressure and said it has been decided that there will be no compromise with the interests of the farming. Speaking at an event in Subrahmanyam Hall in New Delhi, Mr Chouhan emphasised that India's population is its strength and the country will also find new markets. In a veiled reference to the United States imposing 50 per cent tariff on India and apparent pressure in trade talks for greater access to India's agriculture and dairy sectors, Mr Chouhan said there is vast difference in the size of landholdings and agricultural practices and cost of production in the two countries. "The whole country was apprehensive, know how much land they hold: 10,000 hectares, 15,000 hectares. Meanwhile, our farmers have land ranging from one acre to three acres, with many having just half an acre. We have a little land. Is this competition fair? You use GM seeds. There are different kinds of perceptions about our GM. The whole country was apprehensive, what will happen? They want their soybean to come here, their wheat, maize, rice," the Agriculture Minister said. "The cost of production per hectare is less there because GM seeds and other things are used, so the yield is more and the cost is less. The cost of production per hectare here is much higher than there, and if it had come openly, the prices of the crops here would have fallen further in our country. Where would the farmer go? Therefore, it was decided that no matter what happens, there will be no compromise with the interests of the farmer," he added. Mr Chouhan referred to PM Modi's remarks that no matter how much loss he personally incurs, there will be no compromise with interests of farmers. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi said recently that no matter how much loss I personally incur, but the interests of farmers will not be compromised. This is the voice of India, voice of brothers, be assured. If there is some difficulty, we will see. We will find new markets, and India itself is such a big market that our things will be consumed here. The population of the whole of Europe is 50 crore, America's is 30 crore, our population of 144 crore is not our weakness; it is our strength. That is why this decision was taken. He also dismissed nuclear sabre-rattling by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and said India has decided to put the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance after the Pahalgam terror attack. "Today, as a farmer, I want to congratulate our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I want to thank him. The first thing is the Indus Water Treaty. Now the neighbour is giving threats from America. India is not going to be afraid of any threat. The whole world should hear that the Indus Treaty has been cancelled, and our water will be used for the farmers. This is Modi ji's decision. Such an unjust treaty, the rivers, land, water are ours and the canal will be built in Pakistan. We gave 80% of the water, and Nehru ji also gave money to build the canal there; this was a sin. Now this will not be allowed at any cost; our water will be used for our own purposes," Mr Chouhan said. Referring to Pakistan's support for cross-border terrorism against India, Mr Chouhan said PM Modi has made it clear that "blood and water cannot flow together". He said the government would soon bring in a new law to take strict action against those producing fake fertilisers and chemicals. He said various schemes for farmers' welfare are being advanced on priority and digital payment of insurance amounts was made to farmers on Monday from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
