'Want PoK Back...': Spiritual Leader Rambhadracharya Seeks ‘Guru Dakshina' From Army Chief

Spiritual leader Jagadguru Rambhadracharya has sought Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi to get Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) back as his ' guru dakshina." The Indian Army Chief had visited the spiritual leader's Ashram in Madhya Pradesh's Chitrakoot on Wednesday where he sought his blessings. During the interaction, the Jagadguru made a pointed appeal to General Dwivedi, urging him to bring PoK back to India. ॥ नमो राघवाय ॥आज भारत के थलसेनाध्यक्ष जनरल उपेन्द्र द्विवेदी जी का श्रीतुलसीपीठ चित्रकूटधाम में आगमन हुआ। उन्होंने सभी सन्तों एवं विद्यार्थियों के समक्ष भारतीय सेना के शौर्य का वर्णन किया। @JrdUnivers39286 के छात्रों को पुरस्कृत किया। हम सभी भारतीय सेना को प्रणाम करते हुए। — Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Ji (Official) (@JagadguruJi) May 28, 2025 Sharing details about the visit, Jagadguru Rambhadracharya said the Army chief was given the same diksha (initiation) with the Ram Mantra that Lord Hanuman received from Goddess Sita and then conquered Lanka. General Dwivedi visited the ashram where he inaugurated the Simulator Machine at Sadguru Netra Chikitsalaya. He also interacted with saints and students at the ashram, highlighting the Army's commitment to cultural and spiritual values alongside national security. Operation Sindoor His request came days after India launched 'precision strikes" under Operation Sindoor on nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The strikes killed over 100 terrorists including 10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four close aides. Targets included Jaish's Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Sarjal camp in Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli, and the Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad. Lashkar's strongholds — Markaz Taiba in Murdike, Markaz Ahle Hadith in Barnala, and Shwawai Nalla camp in Muzaffarabad — were also hit. Hizbul Mujahideen's facilities at Makaz Raheel Shahid in Kotli and Mehmoona Joya in Sialkot were among those targeted. The Indian armed forces responded effectively to subsequent Pakistani aggression and pounded its airbases. The two countries have reached an understanding to stop military action following a call made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart. (With inputs from agencies) First Published:

Congress claims most Indians locked out of consumption economy; cites auto sales figures

Flagging a reported drop in the share of passenger cars in the overall auto sales, the Congress on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) claimed that it points to a state of the economy where most Indians are locked out of the consumption economy, there is growing inequality, stagnant incomes and weak investment. Congress General Secretary in-Charge Communications Jairam Ramesh shared a media report which claimed that while the middle class is increasingly unable to transition from two-wheelers to entry-level cars, the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment is recording a rising share of first-time buyers. There was no immediate response from the government or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the claims. "India INC [Indian National Congress] is raising the siren once again — this time for auto sales. In 2018-19, passenger cars made up 65% of total sales of vehicles; that share is now only 31%. SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles now account for 65% of sales," Mr. Ramesh said in a post on X. भारतीय उद्योग जगत एक बार फिर खतरे की घंटी बजा रहा है - इस बार वजह है ऑटोमोबाइल बिक्री में गिरावट। — Jairam Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) May 28, 2025 Noting that car sales have long been considered an indicator of the economy's health, Mr. Ramesh said, 'the last few years have seen a 'decoupling' of the two with medium GDP growth been accompanied by concerningly low growth in car sales.' "Buyers are increasingly turning towards the used car market. Auto manufacturers are now producing with an eye on export markets rather than domestic markets," he claimed on X. "What does this say about the state of the economy? Most Indians are locked out of the consumption economy — about 88% of Indian households earn less than ₹12 lakh annually," Mr. Ramesh said. Flagging the issue of "growing inequality", Mr. Ramesh said the surging sales of expensive SUVs compared to the stagnant sales of passenger cars points to the elite gaining a disproportionate share of the economy's growth. He alleged that there was "pernicious inequality" with most lower and middle-income consumers stuck in their current income segments and are unable to rise out of them. Flagging the issue of stagnant incomes, Mr. Ramesh said 'the auto sales figures also reflect that the lower and middle classes are seeing their incomes stagnating amidst medium to high inflation.' He further claimed that it also showed weak investment. "Weak consumption in the domestic economy means manufacturers have no incentive to set up new factories or create new capacity for domestic markets," Mr. Ramesh said.

'Rajiv Gandhi Sought US Mediation': BJP's Claim Amid India-Pakistan Tensions, Congress Responds

Last Updated: BJP's Nishikant Dubey claimed former PM Rajiv Gandhi sought mediation from then US President Ronald Reagan on India–Pakistan disputes, triggering a response from the Congress. A war of words erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress on Wednesday after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had requested the then United States President Ronald Reagan for mediating between India and Pakistan. In an X post, the BJP MP shared a response by Reagan to Rajiv Gandhi, and questioned the party on why such request was made by Gandhi when under the 1972 Shimla Agreement, it was decided that any dispute between India and Pakistan would be negotiated only between the two countries and there would be no mediator. 'It is not easy to be Gandhi. This letter is in reply to a letter written by US President Ronald Reagan to the then Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi," Dubey wrote on X. 'When it was decided under the 1972 Shimla Agreement that any dispute between India and Pakistan would be negotiated only between the two countries and there would be no mediator, why did the then Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi ask for US President Reagan's help in negotiating with Pakistan?" he questioned. — Dr Nishikant Dubey (@nishikant_dubey) May 28, 2025 Countering Dubey's claims, Congress leader Udit Raj, in an X post, called Nishikant Dubey 'fake Kant Dubey' and asserted that Reagan's response to Rajiv Gandhi nowhere mentions that the Indian Prime Minister had requested the United States for mediation between India and Pakistan. 'Not only the degree of fake Kant Dubey, but everything about him is fake. The US President Reagan read the letter written to Shri Rajiv Gandhi but it is not mentioned anywhere that India has asked for support for mediation," Udit Raj responded. 'Fake Kant Dubey does not know how to read English, so how can we help him? Modi ji should be called back from the delegation immediately because he has gone to expose Pakistan and the opposite is happening," he added, quoting Dubey's X post. — Dr. Udit Raj (@Dr_Uditraj) May 28, 2025 The war of words between the two parties comes amid the ongoing political debates over third-party involvement in India-Pakistan relations, especially in the wake of recent escalations triggered following the Pahalgam terror attack and India's retaliatory 'Operation Sindoor'. On Tuesday, Nishikant Dubey shared a purportedly declassified 1971 US intelligence cable regarding former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's decision to accept a United Nations' ceasefire proposal during the Bangladesh Liberation War, in response to the Opposition's demand for clarification from the Union Government on the US's involvement in the recent understanding on the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. He further asked whether India prioritised the creation of Bangladesh over reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) and securing assets like the Kartarpur Gurdwara. Earlier, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a dig at External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, saying that he had been 'silent" on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's remarks about 'US mediation" and 'neutral site" for India-Pakistan talks. However, India refuted the claims made by the US President, reiterating its policy that India and Pakistan bilaterally address any matter related to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. BJP MP claims women whose husbands were killed in Pahalgam terror attack lacked ‘spirit of warriors'

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ram Chander Jangra on Saturday claimed that the women whose husbands were killed in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam did not have the 'spirit of warriors', The Hindu reported. The remarks led to a backlash from Opposition leaders, who demanded that he should be expelled from the BJP. Addressing an event in Haryana's Bhiwani, the Rajya Sabha MP said that women whose husbands were killed should have acted like ' veerangna ', or warrior women, PTI reported. He also claimed that the casualties would have been less had the tourists fought back. The terror attack at Baisaran near the town of Pahalgam on April 22 left 26 persons dead and 17 injured. The terrorists targeted tourists after asking their names to ascertain their religion, the police said. All but three of those killed were Hindu. Opposition leaders criticised Jangra's remarks on Saturday about the attack. Calling the BJP MP's remarks 'shameful', Congress MP Jairam Ramesh demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 'this shameful statement'. 'BJP leaders are continuously insulting the Indian Army and the martyrs, which exposes their petty and low mentality,' Ramesh said on X. 'This shameful statement of Rajya Sabha MP Ramchandra Jangra shows that the BJP, intoxicated with power, has become so insensitive that instead of blaming the security lapse for the sacrifice of the soldiers martyred in the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the BJP MPs are raising questions on the martyrs and their wives.' He added: 'Why should the silence of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP leadership not be considered a tacit acceptance of these statements?' The Congress MP demanded Jangra's expulsion from the Hindutva party. — Jairam Ramesh (@Jairam_Ramesh) May 25, 2025 Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the BJP was not a party 'but a swamp of anti-women mentality'. 'Even the word 'condemnable' would object to being associated with this disgusting statement of the BJP MP about the victimised women of Pahalgam,' he said on X. 'The real face of the BJP is not that of worshipping women, but of insulting them, condemning them and exploiting and harassing them in every possible way.' Following the criticism, Jangra claimed that his statements were distorted and that he would not mind apologising if feelings were hurt, The Hindu reported. The Hindu reported. However, the inclusion India's 'great warriors' in textbooks after 2014 had filled a sense of bravery in the youth, he had argued.
