Baltimore Ravens' Zay Flowers Focused on 'Real Football' - Not Olympic Flag Football
Baltimore Ravens' Zay Flowers Focused on 'Real Football' - Not Olympic Flag Football originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Last month, the NFL owners' meetings approved a motion to allow NFL players to participate in the 2028 Olympics in flag football. The motion passed overwhelmingly, as any opportunity to grow the game globally was seen as a "win" for the NFL and it's owners.

"It's an incredible honor for any athlete to represent their country in the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of global sport," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated. "I know first-hand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage. We are thrilled that they will now have that chance."
For one Baltimore Ravens star, the premise does not excite him.
Ravens' receiver Zay Flowers joined in his quarterback Lamar Jackson in dismissing the idea of exchanging his pads for flags. Flowers is worried about repping the purple and black, not the stars and stripes, instead preferring to focus on "real football".
'I play real football. I ain't really worried about going to the Olympics." Flowers told reporters. "I'm trying to win a Super Bowl.'

Jackson, who many pencilled in as the best option under center for flag football, gave a similar response last month.
""I doubt it. I'm a professional NFL player." Jackson said on The Lounge podcast. "So I'm just going to stay over here and let those guys have fun."
Jackson did have faith that the U.S. would take home the gold if he were to participate.
"No doubt about it, it would go down," he said. "But I salute those guys because they're performing for our country at the end of the day."
Flowers and Jackson's comments must come as a relief to Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh, who gave a lighthearted response in March when asked about the possibility of Jackson having to miss training camp in 2028 to play Olympic flag football.

"I'm afraid I have a quarterback that'd probably be pretty good at it, so no, I'm not that excited about that in all honesty," Harbaugh said before smiling. "I believe in America. I want gold medals, but …"
It seems as though the Ravens' locker room is fully committed to Lombardi trophies over gold medals.

Angel Reese's Two-Word Message to Shaquille O'Neal's Caitlin Clark Request
Angel Reese's Two-Word Message to Shaquille O'Neal's Caitlin Clark Request originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Before Angel Reese was breaking WNBA rebounding records and making the league's All-Star team as a rookie, she was a standout forward for the LSU Tigers. There, she and her teammates notoriously took down Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes during the 2023 National Championship Game. Advertisement As a result of the 20.9 points and 14.4 rebounds per game that she averaged across two years at LSU, the Chicago Sky made her the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. This on-court prowess also spurred a relationship between her and NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, a former LSU Tiger and member of the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (10).Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images O'Neal was integral in getting Reese her sponsorship deal with Reebok. It was recently announced that Reese's signature shoe line with the brand would be released sometime in 2026, but O'Neal had a special request for when she debuted them. 'I just want everybody walking down the street in Reebok," O'Neal said. "In a perfect world, say yes, please say yes. What is it? In a perfect world, I would like you to debut them against Caitlin Clark.' Advertisement Clark and Reese formed quite the rivalry in that 2023 National Championship game, but now, it has continued at the professional level. Because of the magnitude of each game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, Reese easily agreed to this idea. 'Oh yeah!' Reese said. The Fever have won four of the five matchups between these two teams since Clark and Reese entered the league. This includes a 93 to 58 victory on opening day of the 2025 WNBA season. Reese, after making the 2024 WNBA All-Star and All-Rookie teams last season, is averaging 10.0 points and a league-leading 12.3 rebounds per game in 2025. Clark has missed the last three games due to injury, but was averaging 19.0 points, 9.3 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game through four contests. Advertisement Chicago will host Indiana on Saturday at the United Center for a Commissioner's Cup matchup. The Sky hold a 2-4 record going into the game, while the Fever currently stand at 3-4. By skipping practice at OTAs for the second straight year, Lamar Jackson adds to the forfeited bonus that now exceeds one million dollars.
By skipping practice at OTAs for the second straight year, Lamar Jackson adds to the forfeited bonus that now exceeds one million dollars. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Star quarterback Lamar Jackson may be up for a contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, but his current deal includes bonus that could still go into effect ... if necessary. Advertisement Jackson has chosen to skip voluntary workouts at Ravens' OTAs for the second consecutive year, now forcing him to miss out on this add-on to his salary. The quarterback's five-year, $260 million contract includes a feature that states he can earn a $750,000 bonus if he attends at least 80 percent of the team's workouts. The agreement is in play for the next three years, as well. But due to his absence, Jackson has now forfeited $1.5 million of bonus over the last two seasons by skipping the team's organized team activities. As Pro Football Talk also notes, Jackson could be at greater risk within his contract terms. Advertisement If he is working out away from the facility - like many expect he is - and gets injured, it would qualify as a "non-football injury" which could "allow the team to not pay him in 2025." Hopefully the Ravens won't have to worry about the situation getting to that point, as they may not be too worried about whether or not he is at these preliminary practices to begin with. If last year is an example, Jackson missing OTAs didn't affect his performance on the field as he guided the Ravens to another division championship and was practically one dropped-pass away from a conference championship berth. However, as the on-field leader and perennial MVP candidate, the expectation is that he would be a full participant in every opportunity to get any inch closer to the dream of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for the first time - even if that is attending OTAs. Advertisement Plus, he could get three quarters of a million dollars in the process. Or not. Regardless, Jackson is expected to make his first appearance at the upcoming mandatory minicamp. His contract extension is drawing predictions of exceeding the league record for average annual salary ... of course, before practice bonuses. Maybe the Ravens are better off getting ahead of things and excluding those terms from his next contract. Sophie Cunningham's Daring Outfit Turns Heads Before Chicago Sky Game
Sophie Cunningham's Daring Outfit Turns Heads Before Chicago Sky Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On the eve of their matchup against the Chicago Sky at the United Center, two of the Indiana Fever's key backcourt players, Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, made a bold statement, despite both being on the Fever's injury report. Advertisement Clark, the Fever's 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick and reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, has been on the shelf since straining her left quad on their May 24 match vs the New York Liberty. Cunningham left the May 30 game against the Connecticut Sun with a right ankle sprain and, as of Friday, was confirmed to be out again on Saturday. Before Saturday's contest, Clark stepped out in a coordinated brown two-piece set, complete with a matching purse, while Cunningham countered with an all-black ensemble. However, it was Cunningham's daring look that stole the show. Her striking look immediately drew the eyes of fans and media alike. Advertisement "MY QUEEN 👸," said one fan. "I'm imagining a red carpet😍," replied another user. "Good Lord," commented one other fan. "Sophie STUNNINGHAM 😎," another user responded. "Sophie is insane," said one commenter. "Stunning," another fan replied. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8)..Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images Before her injury, Clark exploded out of the gate in 2025, averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and leading the league with 9.3 assists over her first four games. Cunningham, meanwhile, acquired in February's four-team trade from the Phoenix Mercury, has carved out a growing role alongside Clark in Indiana's revamped backcourt. The 28-year-old guard has appeared in 186 career games, averaging 7.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
