How the likes of Kourtney Kardashian, Anne Hathaway, Kelly Brook and Ashton Kutcher ditched their ultra-strict fruitarian, keto, Atkins and vegan diets - as Gwyneth Paltrow turns her back on Paleo regime
Celebrities will often try anything to look good and stay in shape.
And as well as a whole host of beauty treatments and tweakments, many turn to their diet in the search of body perfection.
Veganism, keto diets, the Atkins diet as well as fasting and fruitarian regimes are some that mega stars have sworn by to help them lose weight and keep it off.
But this week one big name in the wellness industry - Gwyneth Paltrow - revealed she had finally ditched her ultra-strict Paleo diet after years of being 'obsessed with eating healthily'.
The actress turned wellness guru, 52, who founded her wellness company GOOP in 2008, admitted she's 'sick' of the caveman diet that restricts bread, cheese and pasta.
And she isn't the only star who has changed their minds on their diet plans - with a host of stars ditching their strict vegan diets over the years including Lizzo, Anne Hathaway and Jenna Ortega.
Other stars like Kourtney Kardashian have ditched their keto diet, while Kelly Brook turned her back on her Atkins journey and Ashton Kutcher ended up hospitalised after following a fruitarian diet for a film role.
Fruitarian diet - Ashton Kutcher
In 2013 Ashton was hospitalized after trying a fruitarian diet in preparation for his role as Steve Jobs in the biopic Jobs.
The actor said at the time that he was rushed to hospital before shooting his new movie Jobs about the late entrepreneur after embarking on a fruit-only diet for the biopic, favoured by the Apple co-founder who died of pancreatic cancer in 2011.
He told USA Today newspaper at the premiere of the movie at the Sundance Film Festival: 'First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to like severe issues.
'I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was doubled over in pain.
'My pancreas levels were like completely out of whack. It was really terrifying... considering everything.'
He studied hundreds of hours of footage of Steve for the role and claimed he discovered they had a lot in common.
A fruitarian diet is a vegan diet primarily focused on consuming raw fruits, with some variations including nuts, seeds, and some vegetables.
It's considered a restrictive eating pattern and may pose nutritional risks if not carefully planned.
Veganism - Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway spoke in 2019 about inadvertently upending her vegan diet.
The star chatted about her decision to give up alcohol and give in to meat eating as she graced a Tatler cover.
The star, now 42, went vegan in 2012 to play Catwoman in Dark Night Rises and kept it up for her Oscar winning role as Fantine in Les Misérables.
It wasn't until she was at dinner with Matt Damon at a swanky restaurant in Iceland while filming Interstellar in 2014 that she gave up her diet and never felt better.
The brunette beauty said that she was out with a group of people including her husband at a Michelin starred eatery when Damon told the chef he would eat whatever was prepared.
Anne said she awkwardly gave in to the temptation of non-vegan food.
'So then I was the only chick and I'm the vegan and everyone's just going with the flow,' she revealed.
Adding: 'So I asked [she puts on a small embarrassed voice]: 'Is your fish local?' And they said: 'Do you see that fjord?' So I had a piece of salmon and my brain felt like a computer rebooting.'
The star left her vegan lifestyle behind her and got much stronger with the changed diet - a help when she donned heavy space suits while shooting Interstellar.
'I just didn't feel good or healthy,' she previously told to Harper's Bazaar.
Anne isn't the only celebrity to abandon a strict plant-based lifestyle and joined celebs like Zooey Deschanel, Carrie Underwood and Natalie Portman who've all ditched the lifestyle.
Keto diet - Kourtney Kardashian
In March 2020 Kourtney finally ditched her keto diet.
According to Medical News Today, the keto diet refers to a ketogenic diet, which is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carb diet.
The main goal of the food plan is to get more calories from protein and fat than from carbs.
It works by depleting your body of its store of sugar, so it will start to break down protein and fat for energy, causing ketosis.
Ketosis is a metabolic process that involves fat providing most of the fuel for the body, rather than energy coming from foods eaten.
Kourtney started it for the second time in June 2019 but has since given it up for good.
She admitted during her interview with Health magazine that she has quit the keto diet but said her household remains gluten and dairy-free.
Kourtney said: 'I noticed that my body changed for the better when I quit the Keto.'
She now focuses on well-balanced meals and engaging in regular exercise to achieve a healthy, well-toned body.
Atkins diet - Kelly Brook
Model Kelly ditched the Atkins diet in 2016.
When asked in an interview if she was still following the regime after previously speaking about it she said: 'Well, I've got two sugars in my tea and I'm eating a croissant, so no.
'As soon as you come off it, you go back up. Not hugely. I'm always between an 8 and a 12.
'But it was a really good challenge for me – I'd never been on any diet in my life, so the fact that I did it was amazing!'
The Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate, high-protein, and high-fat eating plan designed for weight loss.
It involves restricting carbohydrate intake, particularly refined carbohydrates, while allowing unrestricted consumption of protein and fat.
The diet is divided into four phases, each with increasing net carbohydrate allowances as the individual progresses towards their weight loss goals.
Kelly said when she moved back to the UK from LA she changed her lifestyle and felt better for it.
She explained: 'It was easy to do when I was in Los Angeles because you're so health-conscious out there, but as soon I left, my focus changed.
'It wasn't so much on my diet and exercise regime – it was more on enjoying my life a little bit more. My boyfriend (now husband Jeremy Parisi) is Italian and lives in France, so I cook a lot of pasta and we have croissants most mornings.
'I'm more accepting of myself. You're skinnier and toned when you're younger. When you're older, you have a few too many glasses of wine and too much chocolate cake.'
She was announced British ambassador for the Atkins plan in January 2015.
She lost over 8lbs in weight through lowering her carbohydrate and sugar intake and upping her exercise regime.
Veganism - Lizzo
Lizzo revealed last October in a video that she has ditched veganism in favor of an omnivorous protein-rich diet.
The 36-year-old rapper and singer cleared up her new approach to eating for fans in a clip in which she displayed everything she eats in a given day now that she has added back animal proteins into her diet.
She gave the glimpse into a day in her life after flaunting her impressive weight loss and slimmed-down figure.
Lizzo may have also wanted to clear up what she has been eating after she previously blasted rumors that she has been taking Ozempic-like weight-loss drugs to help achieve her more svelte look.
She opened her video in a brown dress that accentuated her curves as she held a lettuce wrap that a contained some meat and tomatoes out toward the camera.
She has had to slam rumors that she has been taking an Ozempic-like drug to help her lose weight. Instead, she attributed the weight loss to a healthier diet and exercise, along with more mindful eating (right, in 2022)
She added her own narration in which she explained her decision to give up her vegan diet in favor of an omnivorous diet.
'My reintroduction to protein came from Japan,' she shared, explaining that a trip to the Asian nation left her feeling fantastic after dining on fresh sushi and 'fluffy' eggs.
'I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day,' she admitted.
Since adding back animal proteins into her diet, Lizzo thought it was helping her to have 'more energy, lose weight' and to deal with 'mental fog' that she suffered from.
Despite leaving veganism behind, she said she still thought it was the healthiest option, and she said she aspired to one day be a 'raw, alkaline vegan.'
However, there's little scientific support for the purported health benefits of an alkaline diet — though it's focus on avoiding processed foods can be beneficial — and many vegetables can be better digested after being cooked.
Lizzo concluded the video by declaring that she wouldn't judge anyone else for their diet, whether they were raw vegans or carnivores.
Some of her fans in the comments didn't appreciate her rejection of veganism, even if it was only a personal choice and not a total rejection of the philosophy.
One angry person took issue with calling herself a person 'who added protein to her diet,' calling the phrase 'so incorrect honestly.'
'You already have protein in your vegan diet, honey. You just added dead animals to your diet, that's the correct word. Xoxo,' they wrote.
'Veganism is not a diet,' wrote another person, apparently meaning that it was more than just a weight-loss strategy.
Others wondered how she could get past the 'cruelty' they felt was inherent in the production of animal-based foods.
'I was vegan for a really long time,' she explained. 'But I stopped being vegan when I went to Romania to shoot Wednesday actually because the food is very different there'
Jenna has previously told how she ditched being vegan when she was filming her hit Netflix show Wednesday.
'I was vegan for a really long time,' she explained.
'But I stopped being vegan when I went to Romania to shoot Wednesday actually because the food is very different there.
'And I don't think that I was meeting my nutrient requirements so I started eating fish again.
'So I'm currently pescatarian.'
A vegan diet is based on plants (such as vegetables, grains, nuts and fruits) and foods made from plants.

I went to Apple iPhone event today and I'm obsessed with 6 new tricks – ‘hold robot' for phone calls is best of the lot
A FLURRY of new features are about to appear on the Apple gadgets you already own. I sat for two hours as Apple doled out smartphone freebies on stage at its WWDC event in California – and there are six you'll want to look out for. iPhone owners, buckle up. 12 NEW APPLE TRICK #1 – TEXT QUESTION PLEASE? The Messages app is getting three upgrades – and they're very handy. Apple is finally adding the ability to create and send polls to pals. You'll be able to quiz them on a restaurant or holiday destination – or vote on who should win Strictly. It's a feature that WhatsApp added back in 2023, and is very popular. Now you can do it in Messages too. Another added bonus for Messages users is the option to add custom backgrounds to each of your chats. They'll sync with the contact too, so you both see the same wallpaper. Fun. Third, you get the ability to screen messages from unknown senders. "In Messages, users can now screen messages from unknown senders, giving them more control over who appears in their conversation list," Apple explained. "Messages from unknown senders will appear in a dedicated folder where users can then mark the number as known, ask for more information, or delete. iPhone 16e review – I've secretly tested Apple's cheapest mobile and I love the new button but that's not the best bit "These messages will remain silenced until a user accepts them." NEW APPLE TRICK #2 – GAME DAY All the signs are there: Apple is getting very serious about gaming. The company has shown early signs of wanting to boost its gaming offering with its increasingly powerful Mac chips. And just a few years ago, Apple Arcade launched – serving up a subscription-only library of premium mobile games. Now Apple has taken it one step further with a brand new and dedicated Games app. This is a bit like the App Store but just for games (finally!), and also lets you locate Apple Arcade titles too. There are ways to play with and challenge pals. And it's a good sign of things to come: your iPhone is immensely powerful, and has a lot of potential as a gaming device. 12 Watch out, Nintendo. NEW APPLE TRICK #3 – ALL SMILES Emoji are effectively the world's shared language. Almost all of us use them – and we all know what they mean. Last year, Apple created an AI feature called Genmoji to let you dream up your own custom emoji. But that wasn't enough for the fiendish emoji lovers out there. So now Apple has added the ability for users to mash up two emoji together. Think 'smiling football' or 'zebra cat'. The possibilities are endless. NEW APPLE TRICK #4 – AIR WE GO! By far and away my favourite trick of the lot is a new perk for holidaymakers – though it's handy at home too. There's a new feature that translates foreign languages in real-time. So you can have a conversation with someone who doesn't speak English, and understand every word they say. This is a game-changer for any of you that have been abroad in a country where you're not fluent in the native tongue. Live Translation should make it much easier to order in restaurants, find your way around when you're lost, and potentially avoid being scammed too. NEW APPLE TRICK #5 – HOLD ON A MINUTE Another brainy new trick is Hold Assist. 12 This is effectively a robot that holds on a phone call so you don't have to. It'll wait for a human to pick up, and then alert you when the conversation is ready. That way, you don't have to spend hours in call centre misery, listening to those awful tunes for a problem that might take just seconds to solve. NEW APPLE TRICK #6 – HUNG UP! Another clever spam-prevention feature is Call Screening. This is similar to Apple's Live Voicemail feature that lets you read a transcription of voicemails in real-time. Now Apple will gather info from callers, and then share that detail with you. So your iPhone can ask the caller for their name and why they're calling – and then tell you the answer that they give. Then you can decide if you want to pick up the call or totally ignore it. CUT OFF! Sadly, not everyone will be able to claim this bonanza of tech tricks. Anyone with a very old iPhone will miss out on the whole lot. The list of supported devices getting iOS 26 is as follows: iPhone 16e iPhone 16 iPhone 16 Plus iPhone 16 Pro iPhone 16 Pro Max iPhone 15 iPhone 15 Plus iPhone 15 Pro iPhone 15 Pro Max iPhone 14 iPhone 14 Plus iPhone 14 Pro iPhone 14 Pro Max iPhone 13 iPhone 13 mini iPhone 13 Pro iPhone 13 Pro Max iPhone 12 iPhone 12 mini iPhone 12 Pro iPhone 12 Pro Max iPhone 11 iPhone 11 Pro iPhone 11 Pro Max iPhone SE (3rd gen) iPhone SE (2nd gen) So if you've got anything older than the devices on that list, you're going without. That includes the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, which received last year's iOS 18 update – but has since been cut off from iOS 26. EXPERT VIEW: 'ACTION-PACKED' APPLE EVENT Here's the expert view from Paolo Pescatore, industry analyst at PP Foresight... "Another action-packed event with Apple delivering a slew of new features for its platforms," Paolo said. "Overall, it looks like Apple has done enough in what promises to be a year of transition as it further builds out its AI capabilities. "There was plenty of Apple Intelligence under the hood. New and subtle features that build upon its relentless focus on privacy and security such as screening of calls and text messages will be sought after and widely used by users. "While it might seem, others are leading the AI race, it is not a sought-after feature among users and there's no revenue uplift (for now). Considering the negative perception, Apple needs to tread carefully not to frustrate and disappoint its loyal base of (iPhone) users. "With these latest updates providing a more coherent feel, Apple remains in an enviable position given its large installed base of users. The subtle addition of Apple Intelligence across key services will help grow awareness and provide users with confidence to drive further engagement. The tight integration between hardware, software and services really stands out with this latest move. "A unified software experience is paramount as more users buy and use a slew of Apple devices. This ensures a more comfortable look and feel driving further stickiness among users. All of which underline the growing importance of software and services at a time when people are looking to keep devices for longer. More importantly owning more devices from Apple. "The biggest visual change and redesign in years will coincide with a new iPhone later in the year. This will be significant as Apple is providing something new at a time when it is challenging to differentiate with a sea of sameness. Significantly it will put pressure on rivals as it makes their software a bit out of date. "People will feel like they have something new for free with a software upgrade. Noticeably, this will be a very different software update and one they will remember unlike others. "The name change is a very big deal which suggests a similar move might happen for the new iPhone to provide more consistency for users. "Other new features like live translate while available on rival platforms are much needed and will resonate with its customer base. "New gaming app follows in the footsteps of Apple TV in being a one-stop-shop for users gaming needs. This suggests a move to make bigger investments in gaming as others are doing. It represents a key battleground among providers. But the company is not resting on its laurels in TV with the new OS redesign to provide a more intuitive watching experience for users and families alike. "It might not steal the headlines, but the iPad finally takes a huge leap forward bringing it into line with other product segments for multitasking." Picture Credit: Paolo Pescatore

ITV releases 'riveting' Amazon Prime thriller that's been compared to Severance
A 'whirlwind' thriller series that's drawn comparisons to Severance is now available to binge in full for free on ITVX. Released in 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, The Consultant was based on the book by Bentley Little and adapted for screen by Tony Basgallop (Inside Men, What Remains, Servant). The eight-part series starred Christoph Waltz as Regus Patoff, a mysterious consultant who comes to the rescue of CompWare, a mobile game studio based in downton Los Angeles, after the death of its CEO. After 'blowing into town' he takes charge of the company and leads with an unconventional management style. The series, which holds an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and this week dropped on ITVX, was largely well received by critics and fans, who praised its 'slick presentation and diverting twists'. 'The series defies all expectations while sucking you into the strange story,' USA Today wrote in its review. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'This bonkers comedy-thriller burnishes the familiar deal-with-the-devil conceit with chipper, unapologetic cynicism, and appealing performances from its trio of leads,' Entertainment Weekly said. 'Although the official website profiles for The Consultant present it as a dark comedy, it's actually quite horrifying and triggering, especially for people who've traversed the corporate minefield, thereby putting it squarely in the horror genre,' Digital Mafia Talkies shared. 'The Consultant is a bonkers show that is a psychologically twisted minefield,' added. Meanwhile viewers said it was 'bizarre', 'thrilling and dark' and an 'absolute whirlwind'. Although many compared it to Ben Stiller's hit Apple TV Plus series Severance, some said it didn't quite live up to it. 'Severance did everything The Consultant tries to do but far, far better: thriller-level fear of the workplace; a sinister, expanding something-is-going-on feeling; two employees who really need to just kiss each other, now, come on; and never quite knowing if the cause of all the weirdness is supernatural, sci-fi, or Other,' it explained. 'The Consultant, despite Waltz's immaculate lapel-straightening, never quite fills you with that confidence.' In an interview with ScreenRant, Tony spoke mixing the tone of the series, which blended horror and comedy. More Trending 'I think I was led, really, by the novel by Bentley Little,' he said. 'That had a very cruel sense of humour to it, a darkness that I always like to bring into my own work. So that was it really, I wanted to kind of match that style that he'd created, and it felt like we were a good fit. 'He's a very dark and twisted individual, and I enjoy kind of adding my dark, twisted nature on top of his dark, twisted nature. So, we were building on each other there.' The Consultant also stars The Stand's Natt Wolff and The White Lotus' Brittany O'Grady. View More » The Consultant is streaming on ITVX and Amazon Prime Video. Got a story?
