ITV releases 'riveting' Amazon Prime thriller that's been compared to Severance
A 'whirlwind' thriller series that's drawn comparisons to Severance is now available to binge in full for free on ITVX.
Released in 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, The Consultant was based on the book by Bentley Little and adapted for screen by Tony Basgallop (Inside Men, What Remains, Servant).
The eight-part series starred Christoph Waltz as Regus Patoff, a mysterious consultant who comes to the rescue of CompWare, a mobile game studio based in downton Los Angeles, after the death of its CEO.
After 'blowing into town' he takes charge of the company and leads with an unconventional management style.
The series, which holds an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and this week dropped on ITVX, was largely well received by critics and fans, who praised its 'slick presentation and diverting twists'.
'The series defies all expectations while sucking you into the strange story,' USA Today wrote in its review.

'This bonkers comedy-thriller burnishes the familiar deal-with-the-devil conceit with chipper, unapologetic cynicism, and appealing performances from its trio of leads,' Entertainment Weekly said.
'Although the official website profiles for The Consultant present it as a dark comedy, it's actually quite horrifying and triggering, especially for people who've traversed the corporate minefield, thereby putting it squarely in the horror genre,' Digital Mafia Talkies shared.
'The Consultant is a bonkers show that is a psychologically twisted minefield,' LeisureByte.com added.
Meanwhile viewers said it was 'bizarre', 'thrilling and dark' and an 'absolute whirlwind'.
Although many compared it to Ben Stiller's hit Apple TV Plus series Severance, some said it didn't quite live up to it.
'Severance did everything The Consultant tries to do but far, far better: thriller-level fear of the workplace; a sinister, expanding something-is-going-on feeling; two employees who really need to just kiss each other, now, come on; and never quite knowing if the cause of all the weirdness is supernatural, sci-fi, or Other,' it explained.
'The Consultant, despite Waltz's immaculate lapel-straightening, never quite fills you with that confidence.'
In an interview with ScreenRant, Tony spoke mixing the tone of the series, which blended horror and comedy. More Trending
'I think I was led, really, by the novel by Bentley Little,' he said. 'That had a very cruel sense of humour to it, a darkness that I always like to bring into my own work. So that was it really, I wanted to kind of match that style that he'd created, and it felt like we were a good fit.
'He's a very dark and twisted individual, and I enjoy kind of adding my dark, twisted nature on top of his dark, twisted nature. So, we were building on each other there.'
The Consultant also stars The Stand's Natt Wolff and The White Lotus' Brittany O'Grady.

TV channel to shut down tonight forever after 11 years in major shake-up
Since launching in 2014, ITVBe has been the home of reality and unscripted programmes which will now be moved to ITV2, while the channel's slot is taken over by ITV Quiz A popular TV channel is shutting down today after 11 years on-air as part of a major which first launched in 2014, has primarily been the home of reality and unscripted programmes such as The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) and The Real Housewives franchise. Comedy fans have also previously been able to watch American shows like Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on the channel - but after tonight, ITVBe will no longer exist as its reality shows will be moved to a new home by merging with ITV2. These programmes will sit alongside other popular ITV2 shows including Love Island and Big Brother, and will continue to stream on ITVX, it was announced earlier this year. ITVBe's slot will be filled by ITV Quiz, airing the TV network's quiz and game shows. These include Wheel of Fortune, Tipping Point, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Lingo, Tenable, Deal or No Deal, The 1% Club, Jeopardy! and Catchphrase. As TOWIE - one of the most popular titles on ITVX - moves to ITV2, fans will enjoy a 15th anniversary series in the autumn. It is not the first time that TOWIE has aired on ITV2, with the channel being the reality show's original home when it first aired in 2010. The show, which started the careers of Mark Wright, Joey Essex, Lucy Mecklenburgh, Sam Faiers and Dab Osborne, aired on ITV2 until 2014, when it became one of the flagship programmes on ITVBe. In its announcement earlier this year, ITV said: "ITV2 will now officially become the linear home of all of ITV's best-known reality series, as The Only Way is Essex, The Real Housewives of Cheshire and Real Housewives franchises from around the world move from ITVBe to the UK's most successful digital channel for 16-34s, in June 2025. TOWIE and RHOCH join a rich schedule of returning formats, including Love Island and Big Brother, and exciting new commissions which are lined up throughout the remainder of 2025 on ITV2, and will continue to stream on ITVX. "The supercharged ITV2 offering also includes animated comedies (Family Guy) original commissions (G'Wed and Transaction) blockbuster movies and younger skewing factual entertainment, like Olivia Attwood 's Price of Perfection, which are all also strong performers on ITVX. Both Love Island and Big Brother are due to return in the Summer and Autumn months respectively, alongside a second series of Olivia Attwood's Bad Boyfriends, following its talked about debut series in 2024. "The Only Way Is Essex will turn 15 meanwhile with a celebratory Autumn series. The move to ITV2 marks a homecoming for TOWIE as part of its 15th anniversary year, having initially debuted its first 12 series on ITV2." It added that the reality genre remains the most popular on ITV2 and ITVX, with Love Island and all of its spin offs being streamed 2.2 billion times, while Big Brother has been streamed over 100 million times. Streaming of TOWIE reached 66 million in the 12 months up to April, ITV said. The statement concluded: "As the flagship commissions move across to their ITV2 broadcast home, ITV will retire the ITVBe brand from its portfolio in June 2025. ITV plans to use the channel slot as ITV Quiz, drawing on ITV's popular, market-leading UK quiz and game shows, and the success and learnings of ITVX FAST channels." Earlier today, we reported that Love Island 's first bombshell has been revealed as a stunning Las Vegas pool party waitress. Antonia Laites, 24, looks after the VIP cabana huts at the swanky Fontainebleau Resort in the gambling mecca. She is the first American bombshell to take part in the reality dating show, which kicks off on ITV2 on Monday. She will join the other islanders as a bombshell - a role usually reserved for the best-looking contestants.

'You must be fed up' – Chris Kamara and Jeff Stelling's treatment now speaks volumes
'You must be fed up' – Chris Kamara and Jeff Stelling's treatment now speaks volumes Chris Kamara and Jeff Stelling were an iconic duo on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, where they shared numerous memorable and amusing moments before leaving the network Chris Kamara and Jeff Stelling are great friends (Image: X/@chris_kammy ) Chris Kamara has agreed with friend and former colleague Jeff Stelling over the most embarrassing moment in the legendary host's career. The seamless rapport between Kamara, who served as a live match reporter, and Stelling, who presented the show, was an enduring highlight of Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday. Their time working together was filled with passion, unexpected twists and a healthy dose of comedy. A particular incident that had Stelling blushing saw him corrected by Kamara for forgetting West Ham's transition to the London Stadium from their previous home at Upton Park. Stelling humorously branded the gaffe as the "lowest point" in his time as a presenter. Kamara concurs with his dear pal, telling the Daily Star: "Yeah, it's true, it probably was the lowest point in his career." But the former Brentford and Leeds defender added: "We had so many laughs along the way, too many to mention. What a great time we had, the best of it all. "And those memories and the way people treat myself and Jeff these days, they obviously enjoyed it as well. So that's a great thing." Article continues below Kamara remains known for his signature 'Unbelievable Jeff!' catchphrase that still resonates with fans today, with the love they each receive a testament to their respective legacies. He said: "If I go out every single day, somebody will say, 'Unbelievable Jeff'. And they go, 'You must be fed up with that?' Stelling's presentation of Soccer Saturday was slick, albeit with the odd mishap (Image: Sky Sports News/X ) "No, I'm not, not at all. I'm proud of it, if I'm honest, to have a catchphrase that's got longevity. Don't knock it." Kamara departed Sky as he grappled with apraxia of speech, while Stelling stepped down from his long-standing role as Soccer Saturday presenter in 2023. The pair were unexpectedly reunited on TV when Kamara was hired to report on Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham as part of Amazon Prime Video's Boxing Day coverage, fronted by Stelling. "That was great, absolutely great. I couldn't believe it," said Kamara, who is managing his symptoms of apraxia, a condition that impacts the ability to plan and coordinate the movements necessary for speech. Kamara was delighted and surprised to reunite with Stelling on Prime Video (Image: Amazon Prime Sport/X ) Article continues below "I thought it was a wind-up when I received the call from Amazon. They said, 'We've got an idea. Because it's our last round of games, and Sky have all the future Christmas games and stuff... we've got an idea, we're going to get you reporting with Jeff in the studio.' "I asked, 'Are you sure you want me back?' And they responded 'Yeah, yeah we do.' Nottingham Forest rolled out the red carpet for me, displayed my picture on the big screen, 'Welcome back, Kammy.' They even gave me boardroom tickets. "It was just wonderful, and I declared there and then if that is my last game, then so be it. The last game I covered before that for Sky was when my condition was really bad, Rotherham versus Shrewsbury."
