Snooker star Jackson Page begins very different job after landing huge 147 bonus
Jackson Page is not only a history-making snooker player, but now the proud owner of a trading card and collectibles shop.
The 23-year-old continued to make good progress in his snooker career, enjoying the best season of his young career so far last time round.
A run to his first ranking final at the Championship League and two more ranking quarter-finals were encouraging, but the highlight came in World Championship qualifying.
The Welshman became the first player in the history of the game to make two 147s in the same match, doing so in a 10-2 demolition of Allan Taylor.
The amazing achievement saw Page won a huge £147,000 bonus for making two maximums over the four biggest events on the calendar – he just only needed one game to do it.
Some of those winnings have gone on a new venture, very different from potting balls, in Brynmawr, south Wales.
AJ's Trading Cards opened at the end of last month and Action Jackson is loving taking his hobby to the next level. https://www.instagram.com/p/DKaQ14topfR/
'Everyone on tour knows that I am really into collectible stuff like Pokemon Cards and other things,' he told WST. 'I just decided it would be great to open up a shop as a bit of a thing on the side.
'It is a bit of an interest for me and something I like to do when I'm not focussing on snooker. It has been a brilliant experience seeing it open up, I obviously can't work in there as I'm a snooker player but I've got someone to work there and it is a good hobby to have.'
'We've got all sorts of things in there like Lego sets and Plushies, as well as the trading cards. It has been fun setting it up. We've got a few cards in there worth over £2,000. The most valuable and rare Pokemon Card we have is called a Moonbreon.
'When I was a kid I used to collect cards and I got back into it a couple of years ago. Now I'm in a position where I'm able to open a shop so I'll see how it goes. It will be exciting to see how it pans out. Mark Williams popped over the other day to see the shop, his boy is into it all as well. So it was nice to have him come along.'
New world champion Zhao Xintong shares an interest with Page, as he showed by sporting the Pokemon Chimchar on his bowtie at the Crucible.
The shop's owner hopes to see the world champ come and spend some of his £500,000 winnings.
'He's just won a fortune, so he could be a good customer,' he said. 'Despite being there for the final, I had no idea he had that on his bowtie.
'We have a Chimchar Funko Pop in the shop actually. I could maybe sell that to him!'
Page made the two 147s in the penultimate round of World Championship qualifying but then was beaten by Joe O'Connor at the last hurdle before the Crucible. More Trending
He said after that loss that he would swap the history and huge bonus for a trip to the Crucible, but is a bit more philosophical on the situation now.
'It was hard to be too disappointed coming off the back of what I'd just done and what I'd won,' he said. 'It would have been a great buzz to go to the Crucible, but Joe is a great player and he played well.
'There's swings and roundabouts, wins and losses. At the end of the day I need to come back next year and try to be in a position where I don't have to qualify.'
Page gets the new season underway with a Wuhan Open qualifier against Ross Muir on June 24 and is back in action the following day in British Open qualifying against Elliot Slessor.

2025 Shanghai Masters Snooker draw, schedule and prize money announced
Judd Trump will head to the Shanghai Masters as defending champion (Picture: Getty Images) The world's best players contest the Shanghai Masters next month, with the draw throwing up some cracking contests in the high profile non-ranking event. The world's top 16 qualify for the tournament, joined by the next four highest ranked Chinese players and four amateur wildcards. The 24-player draw means the top eight in the world go straight into the last 16, while players ranked 9-16 have to face the Chinese qualifiers. The Shanghai Masters was first held in 2007 but it was a very different ranking tournament back then, switching to the invitational format in 2018. Almost a Chinese version of London's Masters, it has become a fantastic early-season event which always attracts the biggest names in the game. Ronnie O'Sullivan has especially enjoyed it, winning four editions of the event on the spin from 2017-23, either side of a gap over Covid. Judd Trump goes in as the defending champion this time round after he beat Shaun Murphy in last year's final. The tournament runs from July 28 to the final on August 3 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium. It will be the second trophy handed out of the 2025/26 season after the Championship League comes to a conclusion on July 23. Speaking after winning the title last year, he said: 'The age of the crowd in China is so much younger than the rest of the world. I always enjoy playing in front of a fanbase where I can inspire the next generation. I think that is why my record in China is so good,' said Trump. 'I want to win as many big tournaments as possible this season. This is probably one of the top five events on the calendar. To win this one early on is an amazing start. I would like to replicate what I did last season and get close to five wins or even more. I couldn't have dreamed of a better start.'

Wynne Evans reveals heartbreaking conversation he had with his daughter after Strictly sacking shame
STRICTLY Come Dancing's Wynne Evans has revealed the heartbreaking discussion he had with his daughter after being sacked from the BBC show tour. The broadcaster appeared tearful in his first chat since the BBC One series scandal, during which he slammed Strictly and broadcasting bosses and admitted he'd considered taking his own life. 6 Strictly's Wynne Evans has revealed the heartbreaking chat he had with his daughter following his tour sacking Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 6 The BBC One show alum, who is a dad of two, detailed his daughter's words of support Credit: Instagram 6 He gave his take on his axe from the Strictly tour - as well as a handful of show scandals Credit: PA Welshman Wynne, 53, who was paired with Katya Jones, 36, during Strictly's 2024 season, opened up on a variety of incidents during his time on the main series as well as nationwide tour. In his first public TV appearance since the scandal the opera singer explained his side of a misheard comment during a photo call, where it was alleged he directed the offensive term "spitroast" toward professional dancer Janette Manrara. Go Compare singer Wynne was axed after the video went viral back in January. He told the ITV daytime show: 'The reporters had left, we were there having stills (photos) taken. 'I was there talking to Jamie Borthwick — I had this nickname for him, which was 'old' and then the word in question, and then 'boy', I used to call him this because he could contort his legs over his head. 'I didn't know there was a reporter there still recording apparently from a distance away, they took their spin on it their own narrative, taken out the words 'old' and 'boy', which you can absolutely see in the video, it's absolutely crystal clear. 'When we've had the volume looked at they're there, the words are there for everyone to see. 'Even though I'm looking at Jamie, they claimed I'm directing this word at Janette. 'Totally taken out of context, the narrative is so wrong on it. 'I was shocked and horrified. Instead of a nickname with another word for rotisary, it's turned into a sexual innuendo, I was mortified by it." Joy for Wynne Evans as he gets engaged after months of hell following Strictly drama He then went on to detail how he relayed the shock news to his daughter Ismay. He shares Ismay and her brother, Taliesin, with ex-wife Tanwen Evans and told how he told his daughter: "I said, 'I'm sorry, I brought shame on the family because even though I didn't do what they said I did, I still brought all these headlines.' "And, she just said, 'Look, Dad, I know you. You're just a kind person and I just want you to know that I know, I can see the video [of his comment to Jamie]. "'I've seen it for myself. I know exactly what you said.'' Wynne then added how his family were on a 24-7 watch during his darkest days to keep him company. He confessed the moment the press tour rang him to question the alleged remark. 'I'd just lost my brother, I'd broken my foot, I was lying in a hotel room, papers calling me. The Strictly press tour rang me saying I'm meant to have said this word. I said, 'Oh God, I'm sorry.' 'They took that as an apology and sent it to the papers — that looked like I'd validated the story.' BBC SNUB? During the lengthy telly chat, he also claimed he had not been contacted by the BBC after being axed from his Radio Wales show. The corporation said he was offered a dedicated contact at the BBC and was offered "continued" mental health support since his contract concluded. 'I haven't heard from the BBC since I got suspended, personally, they've only spoke to my lawyers' Wynne told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. He also addressed several incidents that generated headlines during his time on the Strictly live tour. He spoke about the now-infamous 'sex toy' incident involving fellow contestant Jamie Borthwick, and admitted ordering a device for the EastEnders alum was a joke that had "gone too far." His confessions came after Wynne told The Sun he wanted to take his own life in his darkest moments. He only found out he'd been fired by the BBC after reading it in The Sun - and days later discovered his BBC pass was deactivated without warning. He told us: 'One of the things I was disappointed with the BBC about is I've spoken openly about my mental health, I've made programmes for the BBC about it, done stuff for Mental Health Day. "I've done long interviews for them where I've talked about wanting to kill myself. 'Nobody should use that as an excuse if it's not what they're going through. But I've catalogued my mental health for years and I've been really open about it, so it was really hard and I felt like I was pushed to the real end. 'But I am feeling a lot stronger now.' HAPPY CHAPTER Just yesterday, we reported how Wynne has popped the question to his girlfriend - and she said yes. Yet on today's chat Wynne, who proposed to his partner Liz Brookes in Morocco, also said he regrets signing up to Strictly. He told Cat and Ben today: 'I wouldn't do it. It wasn't a safe environment for me. 'I loved Katya and the guys that were there. I'm happy now to be back in Wales.' He also revealed that he's launching his own new radio show: The Wynne Evans Show, airing weekdays from 9am to 12pm on his website. Speaking of his engagement, he took to Instagram to write: "Big news… I got engaged! "This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz — and she said yes! (No take-backs, I've checked.) "She's clever, she's kind, she's got excellent taste in men. Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are! "Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug." A source told The Sun: "It has been a tumultuous six months for Wynne but Liz has been his absolute rock throughout. "Finally some wonderful news for Wynne and his inner circle to celibate and everyone is chuffed for them both." 6 He told how he was 'mortified' after his alleged 'spitroast' comment towards Janette Manrara Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 6 His daughter Ismay reassured him after the scandal and told him he is a 'kind person' Credit: PA

F1 chiefs make decision on repeating F1 75 O2 Arena season launch show in 2026
London's O2 Arena hosted F1 75 Live in February as all 10 teams on the Formula 1 grid showed off their new liveries in style with an audience of millions watching on Formula 1 cars will not return to the O2 Arena stage for another season launch event next year. The current campaign kicked off in February with a star-studded event in London to mark the occasion of the World Championship's 75th anniversary. And while it drew some criticism, the event was deemed to be a success. The arena was sold out and millions more watched live streams online as all 10 teams pulled the covers off their 2025 liveries and drivers and team principals previewed the season ahead. The idea was formed as a way for the sport to begin its year-long celebrations as F1 marks 75 years since the first World Championship season, held in 1950. As such, it was never clear whether the event was a one-off or something that could be repeated. It's understood that the latter option has been under considering, given the commercial success that the event proved to be. However, it appears that the prospects of it becoming an annual curtain-raiser for the F1 season have faded. Autosport reports that F1 chiefs have decided against holding another launch event ahead of the 2026 campaign. That's despite it also being a milestone year for the sport, with a massive regulations change taking place that will see new car designs and engines used. But those new car rules mean there will be a lot more testing than usual in pre-season next year. Instead of the three days of testing that has become the norm in modern F1, teams are set to get nine days on track across three separate spells to work out any kinks in their designs. READ MORE: Lando Norris makes honest Oscar Piastri admission as McLaren outsiders surprised That means it would be difficult for teams to find the time to take part in a season launch event, particularly as the first set of testing days is likely to take place in Barcelona at the end of January. That would mean a launch would need to take place before then, when teams are unlikely to have all their sponsors in place for the new season. That would limit the commercial opportunities presented, reducing the value of hosting a pre-season launch. But just because it won't happen in 2026, it does not mean the idea of such an event has been permanently scrapped. F1 chiefs felt the 75th anniversary of the World Championship was an appropriate time to celebrate the start of a new season in this fashion. And the concept could be revived for future milestones, though this has not yet been confirmed. And there is no guarantee that, if such an event is held again in the future, that it would take place at the O2 Arena or even in London. There are many other key markets for the sport around the globe including in the USA and Asia which could prove to be more lucrative options, despite the added logistical challenge given most teams are based in the UK.
