Record-breaking snooker star Jackson Page launches new side hustle after landing £147,000 bonus

SNOOKER star Jackson Page has put his historic £147,000 prize money to good use - and opened up his own shop. The 23-year-old made history earlier this year after becoming the first player ever to compile TWO 147 breaks in the same pro match. Page achieved the feat during a World Championship qualifying win over Allan Taylor in April. The Welsh star bagged a £147k bonus for his trouble - a figure he later described as "life-changing". Snooker star Jackson Page begins very different job after landing huge 147 bonus

Jackson Page is not only a history-making snooker player, but now the proud owner of a trading card and collectibles shop. The 23-year-old continued to make good progress in his snooker career, enjoying the best season of his young career so far last time round. A run to his first ranking final at the Championship League and two more ranking quarter-finals were encouraging, but the highlight came in World Championship qualifying. The Welshman became the first player in the history of the game to make two 147s in the same match, doing so in a 10-2 demolition of Allan Taylor. The amazing achievement saw Page won a huge £147,000 bonus for making two maximums over the four biggest events on the calendar – he just only needed one game to do it. Some of those winnings have gone on a new venture, very different from potting balls, in Brynmawr, south Wales. AJ's Trading Cards opened at the end of last month and Action Jackson is loving taking his hobby to the next level. 'Everyone on tour knows that I am really into collectible stuff like Pokemon Cards and other things,' he told WST. 'I just decided it would be great to open up a shop as a bit of a thing on the side. 'It is a bit of an interest for me and something I like to do when I'm not focussing on snooker. It has been a brilliant experience seeing it open up, I obviously can't work in there as I'm a snooker player but I've got someone to work there and it is a good hobby to have.' 'We've got all sorts of things in there like Lego sets and Plushies, as well as the trading cards. It has been fun setting it up. We've got a few cards in there worth over £2,000. The most valuable and rare Pokemon Card we have is called a Moonbreon. 'When I was a kid I used to collect cards and I got back into it a couple of years ago. Now I'm in a position where I'm able to open a shop so I'll see how it goes. It will be exciting to see how it pans out. Mark Williams popped over the other day to see the shop, his boy is into it all as well. So it was nice to have him come along.' New world champion Zhao Xintong shares an interest with Page, as he showed by sporting the Pokemon Chimchar on his bowtie at the Crucible. The shop's owner hopes to see the world champ come and spend some of his £500,000 winnings. 'He's just won a fortune, so he could be a good customer,' he said. 'Despite being there for the final, I had no idea he had that on his bowtie. 'We have a Chimchar Funko Pop in the shop actually. I could maybe sell that to him!' Page made the two 147s in the penultimate round of World Championship qualifying but then was beaten by Joe O'Connor at the last hurdle before the Crucible. More Trending He said after that loss that he would swap the history and huge bonus for a trip to the Crucible, but is a bit more philosophical on the situation now. 'It was hard to be too disappointed coming off the back of what I'd just done and what I'd won,' he said. 'It would have been a great buzz to go to the Crucible, but Joe is a great player and he played well. 'There's swings and roundabouts, wins and losses. At the end of the day I need to come back next year and try to be in a position where I don't have to qualify.' Page gets the new season underway with a Wuhan Open qualifier against Ross Muir on June 24 and is back in action the following day in British Open qualifying against Elliot Slessor. ‘Don't want to work as hard' – Judd Trump takes swipe at lazy young British snooker stars as China continue to take over

JUDD TRUMP reckons English kids are lazier than their Chinese counterparts when it comes to snooker dedication. A Far East revolution is going to sweep the sport led by new world champion Zhao Xintong, who is only 28 and tipped to dominate. 3 3 3 There are 14 Chinese stars in the world's top 50 and 11 of those are younger than 30. In contrast, there are only TWO Brits under the age of 30 — Welshman Jackson Page, 23 and Leicester's Joe O'Connor, 29. Current world No 1 Trump, 35, hails from Bristol and dedicated his youth to the sport, becoming world champion in 2019. Yet apart from Halifax's Stan Moody, who is 18-years-old and ranked 64th, Trump does not see much coming through from the traditional heartlands. The Juddernaut said: 'I just think kids from the UK don't want to work as hard. It's as simple as that. 'I don't think they have any less chances. They don't want it as bad as some over in China. 'Kids nowadays, their lifestyle is too luxurious. They want all the latest gadgets and trainers. 'Not willing to lock themselves in a room for five or six hours a day, which many of the Chinese players do. 'The Chinese are hungrier than them. That's my attitude. 'Apart from a couple of players, Stan Moody is one of them, who looks like he wants it. 'I don't think the hunger is there, to be honest. And you can see that when they play. 'Academies should have been done a long time ago. Maybe 10-15 years ago in my eyes. 'You see it in other sports and Ronnie has got his now. There are the ones in China. 'It's been overlooked. World Snooker, with the levies we pay (on prize money), should have done it a long time ago. 'It would have been a lot easier and perhaps fund some of these overseas players and maybe some people that can't afford that kind of thing. 'Some of the money could be distributed in better ways to promote snooker, rather than go to some of these qualifying venues that aren't fit for snooker.'

Welsh snooker star won £147,000 at World Snooker Championship without qualifying for event

Welsh snooker star won £147,000 at World Snooker Championship without qualifying for event Jackson Page failed to make it past Joe O'Connor in the qualifiers for the World Snooker Championship last month, but he still walked away with more than semi-finalist Ronnie O'Sullivan Jackson Page won the World Snooker Tour's Triple Crown Bonus (Image: VCG via Getty Images ) Jackson Page earned more than Ronnie O'Sullivan at the World Snooker Championship, despite failing to qualify for the finals. After beating Allan Taylor 10-2 in his opening qualifier, the 23-year-old from Ebbw Vale saw his hopes of competing at the tournament dashed when he suffered a 10-7 loss to Joe O'Connor. And while he missed out on glory at the Crucible relatively early on, it didn't prevent him from bolstering his bank balance from one of snooker's biggest calendar events. ‌ That's because two maximum 147 breaks during his game against Taylor granted him a substantial £147,000 Triple Crown Bonus from the World Snooker Tour. The Welshman achieved his first 147 during the eighth frame of his match, before clinching his second in the next session. ‌ Speaking of his feat with BBC 5 Live Drive, he said: "I'm over the moon. It's a bizarre sort of feeling really. I knew the bonus was up for grabs [for the second 147], so I went for it from the first ball and managed to make it happen. "I felt the same way as I did winning matches and in the deep end of tournaments, the same sort of pressure. As soon as the 15th black went in and I was on the yellow, I knew it was going to happen." Page's first 147 of the tournament also marked the first time that 'Action' had ever landed a maximum break since turning pro in 2019. The bonus was introduced by the WST in 2023, and is awarded to any player who makes two maximum breaks during the season's Triple Crown Series. It can be awarded up to three times for a total of £441,000, meaning that the same player can walk away from the series with just shy of half a million pounds for hitting six in total. Article continues below And Page admitted that the £147K bonus would certainly help as he has a three-month-old son and has just bought a home. Meanwhile, Page also achieved more for his bonus alone than seven-time champion O'Sullivan made for his semi-final appearance at the Crucible this year. Ronnie O'Sullivan made £100,000 from the 2025 World Snooker Championship (Image: VCG via Getty Images ) The Rocket blazed through stiff competition in Ali Carter, Pang Junxu, and Si Jiahui to make it to the final four of the tournament, where saw his dreams of an eighth world title dashed by ultimate tournament winner, Zhao Xintong with a 17-7 loss. Article continues below O'Sullivan and Judd Trump both crashed out in the semi-final stage, meaning they were awarded a modest payday of £100,000. That is some £47,000 less than Page who didn't make it to the Crucible whatsoever. Zhao became the first Asian player to taste World Championship glory on Monday when he bested Mark Williams - whom Page is a frequent training partner of - at the Crucible in thrilling fashion. The 28-year-old was awarded £500,000 for his 18-12 victory, capping off a stellar tournament run of 111 frames won from nine games over the course of 29 days, including the qualifiers. Speaking after his win, Zhao told the BBC: "This is like a dream. I can't believe it. There was big pressure and big nerves. I knew if I missed he could come back quickly. I was so nervous tonight. Mark is still a top player and put me under so much pressure. He's the best."
