Inter Miami Inside Inter Miami: Discussing club's highs and lows; can they win MLS title with Messi?
Inter Miami bounced back from its recent disappointing defeat against Vancouver in the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup with a 4-1 win in MLS league play against the New York Red Bulls.
But is the victory the beginning of a turnaround or just a patch as the club deals with larger potential issues down the road?
The back-to-back losses against the Vancouver Whitecaps put in doubt for some whether Inter Miami - even with the great Lionel Messi - has enough to win the MLS Cup this season.
On the latest episode of Inside Inter Miami, our hosts dive into the issues the team is facing and if they can truly turn things around.
We discuss both the highs of last Saturday's win and the lows of the Champions Cup exit with reaction from coach Javier Mascherano, who answered some tough questions about the identity of his team, whether his veterans still have enough in the tank to conquer the MLS contenders that await, and if stylistically this team can impose its will on the rest of the league's best.
We'll also look at Fafa Picault's emergence as an impactful part of the team and the way Yannick Bright and Sergio Busquets continue to mesh in the midfield.
And finally, we look ahead to Saturday's road clash with Minnesota, which is in second place behind Vancouver in the West.

The Hockey News' Vancouver Canucks Mailbag: Chytil, The 2025 Draft & More

Welcome to this edition of The Hockey News' Vancouver Canucks Mailbag. In this series, we answer your questions about what is going on with the Canucks. In this article, we look at where Filip Chytil fits in the lineup, the upcoming 2025 NHL Entry Draft & more. Latest From THN's Vancouver Canucks Site: Could The Canucks Lose Manny Malhotra To The Stars During The 2025 Off-Season? Advertisement Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote Discusses New Assistant Coaches Kevin Dean, Brett McLean, And Scott Young 'They're Great Hockey Minds, And They'll Help Us A Lot': Canucks Adam Foote Details How He Will Utilize The Sedins During The 2025–26 Season Filip Chytil, first or second line winger? While Chytil is primarily a center, there is an argument that he could be dominant on the wing. One of the reasons why Chytil would work on the wing is his ability to create controlled zone entries, rather than dump and chase the puck. If the Canucks can add some depth down the middle, bumping Chytil out to the wing and playing him as a duo with Jonathan Lekkerimäki would give Vancouver more options in the middle six. Why are the Canucks so opposed to building through the draft? If they trade this year's pick, that will be only two first-round picks in 6 years? This is a good question that I wish I had an answer for. While the Canucks have found some late-round gems recently, like Kirill Kudryavtsev, Ty Mueller, and Ty Young, not having selections in the first two rounds over the past few seasons is likely to hurt them in the future. Ultimately, why give up assets and trade for a player like Dylan Guenther when, instead, the organization can draft and develop him? If the Canucks were to acquire the rights to Marco Rossi, what could a potential trade look like? If Vancouver is interested in acquiring Marco Rossi, it will cost them a few assets. While his time with the Minnesota Wild hasn't gone as planned, he is still a young, skilled player who could slide in as a second-line center. A very possible trade package could be the 15th overall pick in 2025, along with a prospect like Sawyer Mynio or Riley Patterson. Which Abbotsford Canucks have been the most impressive to you during their playoff run? There have been many standouts during the Abbotsford Canucks 2025 Calder Cup Playoff run. Up front, Max Sasson and Linus Karlsson continue to step up, while Victor Mancini has been arguably Abbotsford's best defenceman. The real star, however, has been goaltender Artūrs Šilovs, whose recent play will force the organization into making some tough decisions during the 2025 off-season. What does the Canucks defense look like for the next three years? How does it change? How Vancouver shapes their defence in the future depends on Quinn Hughes. If he elects to stay, the only significant change would be Tom Willander for Tyler Myers, as Myers would most likely be retired by then. If Hughes decides to leave, however, it could spark a rebuild, which would mean younger players the Canucks have acquired, either through the draft or trade, getting some opportunities at the NHL level. Cristiano Ronaldo On Playing Against FC Barcelona's Lamine, With Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about facing next generation FC Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal ahead of their two countries Portugal and Spain meeting in the Nations League final on Sunday. Furthermore, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner also discussed the possibility of playing alongside Lionel Messi. Understandably so, the Nations League decider is being talked up as more Ronaldo vs. Lamine than a showdown between Iberian neighbors, which the veteran of the pair understands perfectly. 'It's always like this. Whenever there is a final it is Cristiano against someone. You would have to compare Lamine with Vitinha, where there is less of an age difference, but they want to do it with Cristiano. It's always Cristiano against someone, but it's not like that. We play one team against another. What we want is to play a good game and win,' Ronaldo stated. 'The boy is doing things very, very well. The club and the national team help him a lot. He is in a conducive environment. But I ask that you let the boy grow up for the sake of football. Let him grow calmly and take the pressure off him. You can help him by leaving him alone because he does not lack talent,' he then added about Lamine. 'My son likes Lamine. I have a very special affection for Spain. The greatest talents have always been Spanish. Williams is a great player, Pedri is great... The coach has done a very top job, you can see that he puts discipline into them. I hope tomorrow will be a nice game and that Portugal can win.' Asked about the Ballon d'Or for which Lamine is one of the favourites to take home the highest individual gong in the sport, Ronaldo said: 'I like to give advice to anyone who wants to listen, but in private, face to face. In my opinion, the Ballon d'Or should be won by those who stand out and win the Champions League. But there is no consensus. I don't believe much in individual awards because I know what is being worked on behind the truth. But the boy (Lamine) has a chance... They are a bit irrelevant because there is not a 100% consensus,' Ronaldo then concluded about such awards. Ronaldo was also asked about the possibility of playing alongside Messi at Inter Miami or against him. 'You know that I have a lot of affection for Argentina. I have had invitations to play the Club World Cup with [a club from] Argentina. Never say I won't drink this water, but it's very difficult. "I really like Argentina. I never went and I want to go. I don't have any preferred club. I have a lot of affection for Messi. We have been on stage together for 15 years. I used to translate things from English to Spanish at the galas..,' Ronaldo then trailed off As things stand, though, Cristiano Ronaldo won't play at the Club World Cup as he confirmed himself. 'It's irrelevant at this point. I prefer to talk about other things. I have had quite a few contacts, but you have to think in the short, medium and long term. I will not go to the Club World Cup, that is a fact,' he stated.

2025 FIFA Club World Cup: Teams, Players, and Everything to Know About New-Look Tournament

While even-numbered years bring the world the FIFA World Cup, the Euros and the Summer Olympics, odd-numbered years are normally glossed over when it comes to soccer competitions. That may change this summer, not with a new international soccer tournament but with an enhanced version of an existing one—the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held every four years going forward, and whose organizer hopes will become a must-see event for global soccer fans, just as the FIFA World Cup is quadrennially. What's New About It? The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will run from June 14 to July 13 and will be hosted by 11 cities in the United States. The event has been around, albeit to minimal fanfare, since 2000, but this year it's both the first to take place during the summer, and it's the first to have 32 teams. Previous editions were usually held in December and had seven teams, as was the case of the last Club World Cup in 2023, won by Manchester City. The format will resemble what fans are accustomed to: eight groups of four, with the teams within each group facing off. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage with a Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and then a championship game. Who's Competing? This World Cup is for clubs, not countries. You will see top club teams such as Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Inter Miami. The simplest way a team qualified for this event was by winning their confederation's club championship—i.e. the UEFA Champions League or CONCACAF Champions League—over the last four years, or by being among the top-ranked teams within those confederations on a rolling four-year cycle.
