Azura Stevens' double-double lifts Sparks over Fever 89-87
Since dominating the fourth quarter en route to an 85–75 win, the Sparks had lost two straight. The Fever had won three, including the Commissioners Cup, without Clark. She missed her fifth consecutive game with a groin injury. This game was close throughout. The Sparks' biggest lead was three points in the first quarter, and the Fever went up by eight midway through the third.
Dearica Hamby scored 18 points for the Sparks (6–13), and Rickea Jackson added 15, including the go-ahead basket that made it 88–87 with 57.4 seconds left. Indiana missed its last five shots, four in the final minute. Stevens rebounded a miss and was fouled, making a free throw with 3.3 seconds to go. The Fever used their reset timeout, but Aliyah Boston missed a shot from the top of the key.
Boston led Indiana (9–9) with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and Natasha Howard had 21 points and nine rebounds. Kelsey Mitchell added 19 points. Howard surpassed 2,000 career rebounds, and Mitchell, who reached 600 3-pointers with three, broke a tie with Fever assistant coach Briann January with her 251st game for the Fever, second behind Tamika Catchings.
Mitchell had 13 points and Plum 11 in an evenly played first half that featured nine ties and nine lead changes before Indiana went on top 45–42. Plum scored the last seven LA points of the third quarter for a 70–69 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Short-Handed Dodgers May Be Forced to Make Roster Moves After Astros Sweep
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts could do little to counteract Houston Astros left-handers Bennett Sousa and Bryan King in the seventh and eighth innings of Sunday's 5–1 loss. Three of Roberts' four right-handed hitting reserves – Teoscar Hernández, Kiké Hernández, and switch-hitter Tommy Edman – were unavailable because of minor injuries, which could force the Dodgers to make a roster move to bolster their bench depth before Monday night's series opener at Milwaukee. That forced left fielder Michael Conforto, second baseman Hyeseong Kim, and catcher Dalton Rushing, all lefties, to bat against Sousa and King, who threw scoreless innings to help the Astros sweep a three-game series in Dodger Stadium for the first time since 2008. 'Today we had one player available, and that was the catcher,' Roberts said, referring to All-Star starter Will Smith, who is healthy but was given the day off. 'That's not a good feeling.' For all the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app. Teoscar Hernández, who is batting .257 with a .758 OPS, 14 home runs, and 54 RBIs, fouled a ball off his left foot Saturday night. A scan of the foot was negative, but he was too sore to play Sunday and will be reevaluated on Monday. Edman, who is batting .239 with a .718 OPS, 10 home runs, and 38 RBIs, fractured his toe when he fouled a ball off his right foot on Saturday, but Roberts said the utility player should be able to play through the injury. 'It's kind of per his (pain) tolerance,' Roberts said, 'so I don't see an (injured list) situation.' Kiké Hernández, a utility player who is batting .195 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs in 71 games, has been playing with left-elbow discomfort for about a month and seems the most likely of the three to go on the injured list Monday or Tuesday. 'It doesn't affect the defense, but his swing has been compromised – yesterday (Saturday) it came to a head as far as swinging, and so we stayed away from him today (Sunday),' Roberts said. 'So with these three guys we're trying to figure out where we're at.'

Sounders Goalkeeper Stefan Frei Driven Off Field by Ambulance With Apparent Head Injury
Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei was driven off the field by ambulance with an apparent head injury at the end of a Major League Soccer match against the Columbus Crew on Sunday. Frei jumped forward to make a play on a free kick and as he came down, his head collided with the knee of a Crew player. Frei dropped to the turf at Lumen Field, and teammates signaled to the sideline for help. With the match tied at 1–1 deep in stoppage time, Crew coach Wilfried Nancy and Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer appealed to the referee to end it. As Frei was stretchered to the waiting ambulance, Seattle fans chanted his first name. Frei, 39, has played for the Sounders since 2014. He helped Seattle win the MLS Cup in 2016 and 2019, and he was named MLS Cup MVP in 2016. He was an All-Star in 2017. Born in Switzerland, Frei's family moved to the US when he was a teenager, and he was a standout at the University of California.

Christian Walker, Yainer Diaz, and Jose Altuve homer in Astros' 5-1 win to complete sweep of Dodgers
Christian Walker, Yainer Diaz, and Jose Altuve each homered, Ryan Gusto threw six strong innings, and the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5–1 on Sunday to complete their first three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium since May 9–11, 2008. The Astros scored the go-ahead run in the sixth when No. 9 batter Zack Short capped an eight-pitch at-bat by drawing a two-out bases-loaded walk off reliever Will Klein (1–1) for a 2–1 lead. Walker and Diaz opened the eighth with homers off Dodgers closer Tanner Scott for a 4–1 lead, and Altuve added a solo shot in the ninth off Anthony Banda as the Astros improved to a major league-best 24–8 since June 1. Gusto (6–3) wasn't dominant, allowing one run and four hits and striking out one, but he held the top four Dodgers batters – Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Andy Pages – to two singles in 12 at-bats. Bennett Sousa, Bryan King, and Bryan Abreu each threw scoreless innings of relief for Houston. The Dodgers took a 1–0 lead in the second, an inning that began with Michael Conforto's walk and Hyeseong Kim's single. Conforto took third on Miguel Rojas' double play grounder and scored on Dalton Rushing's RBI double. Houston tied the score 1–1 in the third when Short singled, took third on Isaac Paredes' double, and scored on Altuve's sacrifice fly, a ball that Dodgers right fielder Esteury Ruiz caught while leaping into the screen in foul territory. Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan, recalled from Triple-A to make his second big-league start in his return from Tommy John surgery, gave up one run and five hits in five innings, striking out four and walking one. Key moment: The Dodgers threatened off reliever King in the eighth when Rushing singled and took second on Betts' two-out single, but Astros center fielder Taylor Trammell, who entered for defensive purposes in the sixth, raced in to make a sliding catch of Freeman's 104-mph liner to preserve a 4–1 lead. Key stat: Walker, who entered with a major league-best 1.203 career OPS in Dodger Stadium, is batting .349 (53 for 152) with 21 homers and 38 RBIs in 45 games in Chavez Ravine. Up next: Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (8–6, 2.51 ERA) will face Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta (9–4, 2.91 ERA) Monday in Milwaukee. Astros left-hander Colton Gordon (3–1, 4.37 ERA) will face Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee (4–9, 4.20 ERA) Monday in Houston.
