Founded by Mohammed al Obaidani, CEO of Middle East Global Events (MGE), the Dhofar SportLab is envisioned as a hub for sports innovation and community engagement in Dhofar Governorate.
A passionate athlete himself, Al Obaidani described the initiative as a key component of MGE's mission to position Dhofar as a premier destination for sports tourism and grassroots talent development.
'This isn't just a facility — it's a movement, we aim to nurture the next generation of athletes and active citizens, from toddlers to seniors, while showcasing Dhofar's potential to global sports tourists.' Al Obaidani said.
Located in Sahalnout, Salalah, the SportLab is a first-of-its-kind multi-functional sports space in the Dhofar Governorate. It serves as a training and activation center for cycling and endurance sports, a retail outlet for bicycles and gear and a vibrant community hub offering kids' programmes, weekend runs, and fitness workshops.
The launch event attracted amateur cyclists, local cycling groups, and sports enthusiasts, reflecting the growing interest in endurance sports in the region. MGE, active in Dhofar's sports ecosystem since 2013, continues to empower local youth through organised sporting events. With its natural landscapes, youthful population, and rising enthusiasm for outdoor activities, Salalah offers the ideal backdrop for a long-term initiative like the Dhofar SportLab. The facility now stands as a symbol of community health, sports innovation, and Dhofar's growing role on Oman's fitness and tourism map.

Muscat: The official announcement of Oman's hosting of the 'Discover Oman Ironman 70.3 Muscat' championship was made today during a press conference held in Muscat. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) is participating as a strategic partner alongside Trilone Middle East LLC, a leading sports event management company, in organizing the event. The championship will take place from 6 to 8 February in Muscat Governorate, featuring 1,100 athletes from 81 countries in its seventh edition. Participants will compete in one of the most spectacular and challenging races in the global Ironman series, which is expected to contribute to the promotion of sports and cultural tourism in the Sultanate of Oman. Participants will take on the race challenges, which consist of three stages: a 1.9-kilometer swim, with the swimming course in the waters of the Arabian Sea, ranked as the third-best in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region; a 90-kilometer cycling route, considered one of the best courses in the Ironman championship series; and a 21.1-kilometer run along the scenic coastline of Al Qurum Beach in Muscat Governorate. It is worth noting that the championship will feature several events. On Thursday, 6 February, Al Qurum Beach will host the athletes' check-in and equipment collection, in addition to being the perfect venue for experiencing the Ironman atmosphere. On Friday, 7 February, the day will be dedicated to women and children, featuring the 'She Runs 5K' race for women—whether professional runners or beginners—starting at 8:00 AM, and the 'Iron Kids' race for children at 4:00 PM, giving young champions a chance to shine. The main event will take place on Saturday, 8 February, where both professional and amateur athletes will compete in an exciting race, covering the swimming, cycling, and running stages. It is important to highlight that the 'Discover Oman Ironman 70.3 Muscat' is more than just a race—it is a celebration of endurance, passion, and sportsmanship. Mohammed Al Obaidani, CEO of Middle East Global Events, expressed his excitement, saying, 'As we celebrate the seventh edition of the 'Discover Oman Ironman 70.3 Muscat', it is amazing to see how this event has evolved to become one of the most sought-after races in the region.' Sajda bint Rashid Al Ghaithi, Director of the Tourism Marketing Department at the MHT, affirmed that the 'Discover Oman Ironman 70.3 Muscat' championship enjoys significant attention in the Sultanate of Oman, as it is considered one of the most challenging races in the global Ironman series, contributing to the growth of sports and cultural tourism. Al Ghaithi stated, 'This championship is one of the largest world-class sporting events held in the Sultanate of Oman. Supported by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, it features a variety of competitions, including swimming, cycling, and running. Oman's unique environment, which blends authentic Arab culture with modern urban life, makes it the ideal destination for hosting the Ironman championship.'
