A scuffle erupted after the Club World Cup final on Sunday, as Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma confronted Chelsea forward Joao Pedro in a heated post-match scene.Chelsea had stunned PSG 3-0 to claim the title, scoring all three goals in the first half. Tensions ran high throughout the match, which saw PSG's Joao Neves sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella down by the hair and six yellow cards issued. After the final whistle, Enrique appeared to push Pedro in the throat near the center circle, while Donnarumma shoved the 23-year-old to the ground. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca quickly stepped in to separate Donnarumma from the situation."There was a lot of tension, and a lot of pressure... a whole bunch of pushing going on," Enrique said via a translator, claiming he was trying to deescalate.Pedro offered a different view, stating he had stepped in to protect teammate Andrey Santos from PSG players. "Like a good Brazilian, I went to protect a friend. It ended up with me getting pushed. They don't know how to lose," he said.Defender Achraf Hakimi was also seen gesturing angrily toward both Pedro and Santos during the altercation. Maresca downplayed the incident, saying, "I saw something going on, but I don't know what happened."Despite the chaotic ending, Chelsea celebrated their dominant performance, lifting the trophy while PSG's frustration spilled over in a fiery finale.

Manchester City's Rodri ruled out until mid-September following injury setback
Manchester City will have to navigate the start of the new Premier League campaign without one of their most influential players, as Pep Guardiola confirmed Rodri will be sidelined until at least mid-September after sustaining a fresh injury Spaniard's setback came during City's dramatic 4-3 defeat to Al-Hilal in July's Club World Cup round of 16. Guardiola has kept the precise diagnosis under wraps, but British reports suggest it is a groin problem. The timing could hardly be worse — Rodri had only just returned to the pitch in May following an eight-month recovery from a ruptured ACL suffered against Arsenal last Before this latest interruption, the 29-year-old had managed three late-season appearances and a start in the Club World Cup opener against Juventus. But the Al-Hilal clash ended with him limping off in extra time, bringing his momentum to a halt.'Rodri is getting better but he had a big injury in the last game against Al-Hilal,' Guardiola said ahead of Saturday's friendly against Palermo.'He has trained better in the last few days. Hopefully after the international break (in September), he will be really fit. Hopefully in these (first three Premier League) games, he can play some minutes, but what is important is that he doesn't have pain because we don't want Rodri coming back injured. We will try desperately to avoid that. He has been training the last two sessions with us and that's good,' he is not the only absentee. Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, and Claudio Echeverri will also miss the Palermo trip through various fitness issues. Adding to Guardiola's problems, Mateo Kovacic is still recovering from Achilles surgery and is expected to return around the same time as means City's midfield responsibilities will be spread across summer signing Tijjani Reijnders, captain Bernardo Silva, experienced figure Ilkay Gundogan, and emerging talent Nico absence of Rodri was felt keenly last season when City slipped to third place and ended without a trophy. Guardiola will be desperate to have his midfield anchor ready for the Champions League group stage and heavyweight league fixtures against Manchester United and Arsenal after the September international break.- Ends

Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson picks his next club even as five teams express interest in signing Senegalese striker
With Chelsea having acquired Joao Pedro and Liam Delap this summer, Nicolas Jackson finds himself surplus to Enzo Maresca's requirements for the upcoming season. In such a scenario, the Senegalese striker has reportedly set his sights on his next destination. read more Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson had recently starred in Chelsea's victory at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. Reuters Several clubs are expressing an interest in signing Nicolas Jackson after the striker arrived at an agreement to part ways with Chelsea. At least five teams are eyeing the Senegalese striker, who had joined the Blues in 2023 from Villarreal in 2023 and had scored 24 goals in 65 appearances since then. Jackson, however, has his eyes set on Newcastle United with Eddie Howe's team likely to part ways with their Swedish striker Alexander Isak sooner rather than later, according to Daily Express. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 33-time Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have made contact with Jackson's representatives, hoping to fill the gap in the team caused by a long-term injury to attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, as per The Sun. More from Football Also in the fray are Italian giants AC Milan and Napoli, the latter having won their fourth title last season. Why Jackson's expressing interest in Newcastle United Jackson, however, has expressed his desire to remain in the Premier League for now. Aston Villa have also expressed an interest in him and manager Unai Emery has previously worked with Jackson during his stint as Villarreal manager. The striker, however, appears to have his sights set on a move to St James' Park, where Howe is said to be on the lookout for Isak's replacement despite Newcastle turning down a £110 million offer from Liverpool. That Newcastle beat Villa to the final Champions League spot on the 2024-25 table on goal difference after both teams finished on 66 points at the end of the season is also what draws Jackson to the former. Villa will be playing the Europa League along with Nottingham Forest while Newcastle have qualified for the Champions League along with champions Liverpool as well as Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea. Jackson currently finds himself surplus to Chelsea's requirements for the upcoming season. Enzo Maresca's side, recently crowned champions of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the final, have signed Joao Pedro and Liam Delap from Brighton and Ipswich Town respectively. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD With their attack stacked currently, Jackson was left out of Chelsea's squad that faced Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

Reis thanks Savinho for advice over Girona loan move
Madrid, Aug 8 (UNI) Young Brazilian central defender Vitor Reis said a talk with Manchester City winger Savinho was a factor in his deciding to join La Liga side Girona on a season's loan. Reis, born in January 2006, moved to Manchester City from Palmeiras in January this year on a four-and-a-half-year contract, but only made four appearances, with City now opting to send him to another club in its group of affiliates to gain top-flight experience. The defender will hope to follow Savinho's route, with the winger becoming established in the City squad after a successful spell with Girona two years ago. "He spoke to me about the club, La Liga and Spain," said Reis as he was presented to the press and fans at Girona. "He told me a lot of good things, so that is why I am very happy to be here. I hope to have a great season," added the youngster, who could make his debut when Girona kicks off the new La Liga season at home to Rayo Vallecano on August 15. UNI/XINHUA BM
