Fallon expecting big performance from Desert Flower
An unbeaten daughter of Night Of Thunder, Desert Flower has left Fallon spellbound. He said: 'If the filly was running in the Derby I would think she would be very competitive, I would be wanting to back her.

'I think the Oaks is a foregone conclusion and she ticks all the boxes. She settles and will switch off nicely and she will be fine over the trip and she will go on any ground.
'She's the nicest filly I've seen in a long time and I thought she would maybe even be good enough to beat the colts.'
Few have ridden Epsom better than Fallon, who has the likes of Oath (Derby, 1995) and Kris Kin (Derby, 2003) on his roll of honour, while in 2004 he did the Epsom double by landing the Oaks on Ed Dunlop's Ouija Board before following up 24 hours later aboard Sir Michael Stoute's North Light in the Derby.
This is an achievement that awaits Appleby and Godolphin's number one pilot William Buick should both Desert Flower and his Derby mount, 2000 Guineas hero Ruling Court, succeed this weekend.
However, while Fallon is steadfast in his belief in Desert Flower, he is wary of the challenge Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle team presents to the Classic-winning son of Justify in Epsom's showpiece event as he puts his stamina to the test.

'I think the Derby is an open race really,' added Fallon. 'Maybe it's best to stick with Ryan Moore and the draw for Delacroix (in 14) doesn't really matter if the horse is good enough.
'Ruling Court has lots of speed and won the best trial, but will he stay? I think Delacroix is guaranteed to stay whereas Ruling Court isn't. He's a horse with a lot of speed, but if there is a bit of cut in the ground it might not be ideal.
'Aidan has a great record in the race and you have to respect that, but it would be a very nice double if Charlie could do it.'

Derby tragedy as Norman's Cay dies in heartbreak for famous football agent
The football agent's joy at winning the first juvenile race of the Flat Turf season in March turned to despair at Epsom when Norman's Cay went wrong The Derby meeting began in tragic circumstances for football agent Kia Joorabchian when winning two-year-old Norman's Cay sustained a fatal injury. Big-spending Amo Racing will bid for Derby glory on Saturday when 66-1 chance Tuscan Hill lines up in the £1.5 million Epsom Classic. Joorabchian came close to winning the race two years ago when King Of Steel finished second and again in 2021 with Mojo Star, who also finished runner-up. Norman's Cay posted a statement win for Joorabchian's big-spending Amo Racing when he captured the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster in March, the first two-year-old race of the British Flat Turf season. He lined up for his second start in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom on Friday as an 11-1 chance under Amo's jockey David Egan. His trainer Richard Hannon was optimistic he would run well, writing in his Unibet blog, 'We deliberately decided to give him a break after winning the Brocklesby to allow him time to grow and fill out, and he has done really well. 'We were looking at going to Sandown last week, but it was plenty dry enough, and there's a bit of rain forecast on Friday, which we feel will help because he won at Doncaster on Good to Soft. 'We've won this race with some nice horses down the years, and hopefully this lad is up to that standard, at least.' However the race did not go to plan as Norman's Cay was hampered early in the race and though recovering to launch a challenge with two furlongs to run, he went wrong a furlong out. He was led onto a horse ambulance and removed from the track for further assessment by vets but he had suffered a significant injury. A spokesperson for Epsom Downs Racecourse said: 'Having sustained an injury in the closing stages of the second race on Ladies Day, Norman's Cay was taken back to the racecourse stables for further assessment by our expert veterinary team. 'In their assessment, it was concluded that the best course of action for the horse's welfare was for him to be humanely euthanised. Our heartfelt condolences are with Richard Hannon, his team and all at Amo Racing.' Amo Racing analyst Charlie Sutton posted his own tribute and said: 'Very sad to lose Norman's Cay at Epsom today. He was very well cared for at Richard Hannon's during his short career and again by the vets at the track. 'Can talk about what a nice horse he could've been for the team but ability is irrelevant in these circumstances really.'

Ex-Arsenal and Man Utd stars to go head-to-head for League One manager job
Plymouth Argyle are considering two former Premier League stars for their managerial vacancies after Wayne Rooney's replacement, Miron Muslic departed the club for Schalke. Jack Wilshere and Tom Cleverley are among the candidates to be interviewed for the vacant Plymouth Argyle job. Both the former Arsenal midfielder and ex-Manchester United ace are out of work having managed in the Championship last season Plymouth are in need of a new boss having seen Miron Muslic depart for Schalke after less than a year in the job. Muslic oversaw the side's relegation after replacing Wayne Rooney at Home Park. Rooney was sacked by the club in December after lasting 221 days of his three-year contract. The ex-Derby and Birmingham City boss managed just four wins and was relieved of his duties after a nine-game winless run put the team four points from safety. Muslic was expected to continue at Plymouth having given chairman Simon Hallett assurances he would lead the side's campaign to earn promotion from the Championship. The club had already moved to put personnel and structures in place that Muslic insisted upon. But Argyle have been forced into the managerial market and could go for a high-profile name once again with Wilshere and Cleverley in the frame. The former took charge of Norwich's final two games of the season as interim-boss after the Canaries parted ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup. Wilshere arrived at Carrow Road in October 2024 as a member of coaching staff. The ex-England international was previously in charge of Arsenal under-18s and parted ways with Norwich via mutual agreement after the team decided they wouldn't consider him for the permanent job. Cleverley meanwhile saw his playing career end with Watford where he moved into coaching. The 35-year-old was working with the Hornets academy before being named as interim head coach when Valerien Ismael was dismissed. Cleverly impressed enough to be handed the role on a permanent basis but lasted little over 12 months before being sacked last month. The United academy product remained proud of his efforts. "After the sadness wears off, I will forever have a feeling of gratitude and happiness towards the club and the place and people of Watford," he said. "To have built a connection with the players and supporters over the last 14 months has been special and the achievement I'm most proud about. "To see the development of our key players, young players and academy players, has been an incredibly rewarding part of my job and their progress in the game will always be something I look out for. We have used 11 players aged 21 and under this year and both they and the club will benefit hugely for this experience. "To maintain league position and points after selling key players last summer is something we should be proud of, as well as reflecting on why we couldn't sustain our play-off challenge will be something we should all review." Wilshere and Cleverley will also see competition from Des Buckingham. The 40-year-old was surprisingly sacked by Oxford United in December.
