I'm 100 per cent sure I couldn't make it as a professional golfer
The former Real Madrid and Wales star is well known for his love of golf and has cut his handicap from 'three or four' to just 0.1 since retiring from football in January 2023.
That has led to suggestions that Bale – who has played on the PGA Tour at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am where footage of him making a brilliant chip from a cart path went viral – could try and make it as a professional golfer, despite having turned 36 earlier this month.
'I'm fully, 100 per cent sure, I can not make it professionally,' Bale told BBC Wales ahead of this week's AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl.
'When you are in golf and you see professional golfers play, compared to even your best stuff, it is nowhere near.
'When I've played with those players and watched them, you really appreciate how good they actually are.
'Never mind just playing with your friends, they are doing it under the most severe pressure, in tournament conditions, in hard weather.
'So there won't be any professional (golf) for me.
'But I love the game. I love watching it, I love growing it.'

Golfers on top of their game at recent Oake Manor competitions
There were high scores all round at Oake Manor Golf Club's recent competitions. Bob Tye claimed victory in the Sunday Stableford Competition on July 20 with 40 points, narrowly beating Liam Willey, who had 39 points, and Jamie Price with 38 points. The 'Grannies Goblet' saw Amanda Mathers emerge as the clear winner on the same day, scoring 40 points in the Ladies Stableford Competition. She was four points ahead of second-placed Shane Bordier, who scored 36 points. In the "Order of Merit" Stableford Competition on Monday, July 21, Dave Kinnear was the clear champion, scoring an impressive 43 points. This also earned him the Division One win. Howard Spear came second with 40 points, and Michael Bright was third with 39 points. Leslie Hamp took Division Two with 40 points. The Ladies Medal on Sunday, July 22 had some impressive scores. Kate Foster won Division One with a nett 66. Kathryn Smith was second with a nett 67, and Ladies Captain Daphne Priddy finished third with a nett 71. Past ladies captain Sally Jackson had the best score of the day, shooting a nett 64, eight shots under par. In the Midweek Stableford Competition on Wednesday, July 23, Jamie Short won Division One with 40 points off a -2 handicap. Gareth Nation won Division Two with 42 points. John Lowe and Dylan Jeanes finished second and third with 40 and 39 points, respectively.

Football: Wellington AFC lose season opener to Helston Athletic
Wellington AFC suffered a 2-1 defeat in their season opener against Helston Athletic. The away game in Cornwall, on Saturday, July 26, saw the Tangerines, under interim manager Tim Legg, lose to a team relegated from the Southern League. Legg fielded a starting line-up composed entirely of last season's players, while five new signings remained on the bench. In a match with few clear opportunities, Helston took the lead in the 17th minute when Ollie Redd finished off Liam Eddy's assist. Wellington's struggle continued into the second half as they were temporarily reduced to ten men due to Miles Quick's sin binning. Helston capitalised on this advantage, doubling their lead in the 71st minute as Matt Searle netted after a defensive lapse by Wellington. However, the Tangerines refused to go down without a fight. Midfielder Glen Wright gave Wellington a glimmer of hope in the 85th minute, scoring with a superb long-range effort. Substitute Oscar Albano almost equalised shortly after, but his shot was parried away by Helston's goalkeeper, Morgan Jones. Despite Wellington's late surge, Helston held on for the win and nearly scored again in the dying moments of the match. The fixture was attended by 210 spectators. Wellington's starting XI consisted of Jack McAndrews, Josh Lukins, Tom Stone, Mark Cornish, Alex Cherry, Jack Winsor, Wright, Sam Towler, Nathan Byrne, James De Selincourt, and Quick. Four substitutes - Albano, Alfie Slough, William Curtis, and Ryan Upham - made appearances during the match, while Jack Alcock remained unused.

Bolton Wanderers boss 'close' to naming new club captain after Thomason exit
STEVEN Schumacher says he is close to naming the next official captain of Bolton Wanderers – but notes that his dressing room has a few excellent candidates. After the departure of previous skipper George Thomason to Wrexham, George Johnston and Eoin Toal have both worn the armband. Schumacher has confirmed that the players will also have a say in establishing a 'leadership group' and that the captaincy could change depending on selection. 'We're close to making the decision but I think I've got a few good leaders in that dressing room,' said the Bolton boss. 'Obviously we lost George Thomason, who had the armband when I got here last year. 'He will obviously need a natural successor, but I have got a few players who could do that job in there. 'I think it's important that the leaders that we pick, the leadership group that the lads will pick between themselves, everybody should be ready to be a captain and lead this team into battle whenever we choose.' Wanderers went through the whole of pre-season without defeat, playing a new 4-2-3-1 system which has been the focal point of the club's recruitment. Schumacher still expects his team to be attack-minded but has worked for several weeks to establish a better shape out of possession in order to address the problems they experienced last season, conceding 70 goals in the league. Reflecting on the changes that fans can expect this time around, he said: 'I don't know how much we have changed the way we play but the system is different. 'We are going to try and go with a back four. We think having wide players in this league, that can take people on, gives you a chance. 'Having four defenders to defend with throughout the game, rather than a back three, gives you the benefit as well. 'So we will see how it goes. We have recruited to do that and it is the way I want to go about things. 'I still don't want to change too much about how this club should be. We want to play attacking football, we want to be on the front foot and be exciting, but I want to concede fewer goals.'
