After nearly 365 days away, former MVP and Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. is expected to make his season debut on Friday against the San Diego Padres.Acuña
Acuña has been out since May 25 of last season when he tore his ACL for the second time in four seasons. His addition to the Atlanta lineup could be exactly what the Braves offense needs after a bad series loss to the Washington Nationals.

The last full season we saw from Acuña was one of the greatest in the history of Major League Baseball. Acuña led all players in hits, runs scored, stolen bases and on-base percentage. The season was capped off by Acuña winning the first MVP award of his career and left high hopes for his 2024 season.
That season was cut short by his injury in May against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he is finally ready to return to the major leagues and prove he is still among the game's best players.
A lifetime .289 hitter, Acuña will insert at the top of a Braves lineup that currently ranks 14th in the major leagues with a .247 team batting average. Acuña also has 196 career stolen bases and will add that threat to an Atlanta offense that ranks 20th in stolen bases with 32.
After starting the season 0-7, the Braves were able to get their record back to .500 at 21-21 but have since lost four of their last season games to fall to 24-25 on the season.
Atlanta's next three series are against the Padres, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox. With the club already sitting 7.5 games out of first place in the NL East, the next 10 games for the Braves are a chance to prove that despite their slow start, they are still one of the best teams in baseball.

Cubs-Rays Trade Idea Sends Starting Pitcher Zach Littell to Chicago

Cubs-Rays Trade Idea Sends Starting Pitcher Zach Littell to Chicago originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs' offense has been the primary catalyst for their first-place standing in the National League Central. Advertisement The potent lineup, consisting of MVP-caliber players like Kyle Tucker and breakout star Pete Crow-Armstrong, is one significant reason the Cubs have continued to win games despite the absence of starting pitchers Justin Steele, Shota Imanaga, and Javier Assad. Imanaga threw a bullpen on Saturday and might face live hitters soon, per Andy Martinez of the Marquee Sports Network. Even with Imanaga's eventual return, the Cubs may look to upgrade the back-end of their rotation with a trade. Clutchpoints' Zachary Howell believes the Tampa Bay Rays veteran starter Zach Littell could be a good add for Chicago. Advertisement "The Cubs will be without Justin Steele for the rest of the season. Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd have played well in his absence," wrote Howell. "However, the back end of Craig Counsell's rotation is questionable. Littell is a younger pitcher who can come in and provide the complimentary pitching necessary to boost their staff." Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zach Littell (52) throws a pitch against the Milwaukee Brewers during the second inning at George M. Steinbrenner Nelson-Imagn Images Littell, 29, is a free agent at season's end and is in his eighth Major League Baseball season, and third with the Rays. The right-hander leads MLB with 16 home runs allowed in 74.2 innings this season, but has his ERA at a respectable 3.86 despite that. The Rays are 8-2 in their last 10 games and only 5.5 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East on June 1, but a pitcher like Littell may be someone they can afford to lose, for the right price. Advertisement "While the Rays' direction is a bit unclear, Chicago has some young talent that could entice Tampa Bay," wrote Howell. "Letting go of Littell would be a tough pill to swallow. Getting a player like Miguel Amaya or Vidal Brujan back would lighten the blow significantly." If the Cubs were to deal Amaya, one of their catchers, they could promote prospect Moises Ballesteros for the remainder of the season, but whether they would consider a move that drastic for Littell is a question mark. SI's Chris Mannix sees Rockets as most invested Giannis Antetokounmpo trade suitor

SI's Chris Mannix sees Rockets as most invested Giannis Antetokounmpo trade suitor 'I think Houston would be the most interested and invested in going to get him,' Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix says of potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade suitors. On a newly released episode of Open Floor: Sports Illustrated's NBA podcast, veteran league insider Chris Mannix said he believes the Houston Rockets will be the most interested trade suitor for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. 'I think Houston would be the most interested and invested in going to get him,' said Mannix, who has ties with Rockets head coach Ime Udoka dating back to his Boston head coaching stint (where Mannix is based). Regarding what a potential Bucks-Rockets deal might look like, Mannix said on SI's show: Everything not named Amen Thompson, and just do it. Jalen Green's contract… I think they'd probably like to hold on to Alperen Sengun, but they could put together a deal that would probably appeal to Milwaukee. Other rumored suitors have included teams such as the San Antonio Spurs, Brooklyn Nets, and Toronto Raptors. At 52-30, Houston had by far the best record among that group in the recently completed 2024-25 season — which could present the most appeal to Antetokounmpo (if the 30-year-old, as believed, wants to contend for an NBA title) and perhaps give the Rockets the most incentive to get a deal done. Operating as a 6-foot-11 power forward, Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points (60.1% FG), 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game in the 2024-25 season. A two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP), the 'Greek Freak' is a nine-time NBA All-Star and a perennial MVP candidate. 'We think Houston probably has the most they can offer,' added co-host Rachel Nichols, who also has extensive experience covering the NBA. Of course, it isn't yet confirmed that the 2024-25 MVP finalist wants to leave. A recent report indicated that a meeting between Antetokounmpo and the Bucks would be held in late May, at which point the player's desires might become known. But it's now June, and there has been no confirmation of whether such a meeting has yet taken place. Stay tuned! Arizona Cardinals S Jalen Thompson believes team will be 'defensive-led' in 2025

Arizona Cardinals S Jalen Thompson believes team will be 'defensive-led' in 2025 Jalen Thompson believes the additions to the D-line and secondary will make the Cardinals defense what lead the team. The Arizona Cardinals have been known as an offensively led team for several years, basically since quarterback Kyler Murray was drafted first overall in 2019. Since Murray came back from his ACL tear two seasons ago, the offense has been a top-10 unit in terms of efficiency. Will that continue? Safety Jalen Thompson doesn't think so. "This is gonna be a defensive-led team in my opinion," Thompson said on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM last week during the first week of OTAs. "I just think that it's one of those things where, like we were talking about a little bit earlier, we were in games, a lot of games last year with the defense, and we could have won those games if we had a little more, I feel like." The Cardinals lost by one score to the Buffalo Bills and had no answer for Josh Allen. They gave up a game-winning score in the final minutes against the Minnesota Vikings and allowed the Carolina Panthers to score 36 points. One stop in those three games and the Cardinals are an 11-win team and in the postseason. "This year should be a little bit different," Thompson said. "We got the D-line, some new guys in the D-line. We got some new guys in the in the DB room that are all ready to go. They're intentional, they come to practice, they're consistent. "I think that should be good for us." In free agency, the signed OLB Josh Sweat, DL Dalvin Tomlinson and DL Calais Campbell, They re-signed OLB Baron Browning and DL L.J. Collier. OLB BJ Ojulari, DL Justin Jones and DL Bilal Nichols are all coming back from injuries. They drafted DL Walter Nolen in the first round and CB Will Johnson in the second round. This defense should the best unit from the Cardinals we have seen since the first half of the 2021 season.
