Meta Ray-Ban AI smart glasses launching in India soon: Details
Meta Ray-Ban glasses are officially launching in India soon. These AI-powered smart glasses will enable users to make hands-free conversations with the voice assistant, users can ask any question to get real-time answers, listen to music, extract information, and much more hands-free. Including India, the Meta Ray-Ban glasses will also be launched in Mexico and the UAE, expanding their availability to more users. While the company did not reveal any specific date or launch timeline, we expect it to debut in the upcoming months.
In addition to the India launch, the tech giant shared a detailed blog post showcasing the new frame designs for the Meta Ray-Ban with Skyler frame and lens colour combos. The company also announced a major software upgrade, bringing new features to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses.

After Meta Ray-Ban's official debut in September 2023, the AI-powered smart glasses are officially coming to India. Recently, smart glasses were introduced in several European regions and the UK. Now, Meta has planned to expand its availability to more countries, including India. Meta said, 'These stylish glasses offer everyday wearability and help you be more present with friends, family, and the world around you by letting you capture a moment or listen to music, while your phone stays in your pocket.'

With the India launch, Meta introduced a new design cat-eye, stylish frame for the smart glasses, which the company says 'Skyler Shiny' frame. These frames will be available in Skyler Shiny Black with G15 Green lenses, Skyler Shiny Chalky Gray with Transitions Sapphire lenses, and Skyler Shiny Black with Clear lenses.
As part of its software update, Meta is bringing the live translation feature to all markets. As of now, the translation language supports English, French, Italian, and Spanish. Users just have to say, 'Hey Meta, start live translation', and it will provide a detailed translation without the requirement of a WiFi connection. Furthermore, Meta is bringing Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger integration to Meta Ray-Ban glasses, allowing users to 'send and receive direct messages, photos, audio calls, and video calls on your glasses.' Lastly, Meta Ray-Ban glasses will bring support for additional music platforms, including Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam.

Beijing proposes easing export of rare earths to European Union
BEIJING: China has proposed establishing a "green channel" to ease the export of rare earths to the European Union, the commerce ministry said Saturday, after Beijing restricted their sale abroad. Beijing has since April required licences to export these strategic materials from China, which accounts for more than 60 percent of rare earth mining production and 92 percent of global refined output, according to the International Energy Agency. During the bilateral talks, Wang said he hoped the bloc would in turn "take reciprocal action, adopt effective measures to facilitate, safeguard, and promote compliant trade of high-tech products with China," according to the commerce ministry. The two officials also discussed imports by European countries of Chinese electric vehicles, which the EU has hit with levies over allegedly unfair subsidies from Beijing. "The negotiation on the price commitment of electric vehicles between China and Europe has entered the final stage, but both sides still need to make efforts," the commerce ministry said. The discussions will be followed by China hosting a summit with the EU next month, 50 years since Beijing and Brussels established diplomatic ties.

Tiruchi students look beyond U.S., U.K. for overseas education
Volatile global politics, visa restrictions, and rising cost of living are forcing students in Tiruchi to reconsider their option of proceeding to the U.S., the U.K., and Canada for higher education. Some educational consultancies have closed down their overseas departments because of the changing market dynamics and decided to concentrate on the more vibrant domestic sector. The availability of one-year postgraduate courses had made the U.K. a preferred destination for many Indian students. However, of late, there had been a slowdown in demand for these courses because of the rise in living costs and greater restrictions on part-time employment, said education consultants. 'Every September, we used to have up to 50 students from Tiruchi going to major English-speaking countries, where the fees would be over ₹15 lakh a year. This year, we have only around 30 students enrolled so far, mostly for the U.K. This despite the fact that education loans being available easily in India with banks willing to fund up to ₹50 lakh for overseas studies,' Girubakaran Periasamy of Scholars Global Education told The Hindu. Artificial intelligence, data science, business analytics, electronics engineering, and business management are among the subjects that Indian students pursue abroad. 'There has been a drastic drop in enrolment for qualifying tests such as TOEFL, GRE, and GMAT. We used to get up to 20 students for the U.S. until recently. This year, we have only three and two of them are having second thoughts,' said S. Sivakumar, CEO of the educational consultancy U2CAN. Mr. Sivakumar attributed the decline in applications to the U.S. and Canada to a combination of the restrictions placed on student visas and costlier degrees. 'We are seeing many more enquiries about institutions in European countries such as Finland, Sweden, France, and Germany. Among Asian countries, there is a growing interest in Japan,' he said.
